    Love the colors on those little Browns. So vivid. I have an original late '80's 590 LL & a late '80's 486 LL. Love how they both fish & have caught a ton of big wild high mountain Cutthroat on them here in Alberta, Canada. There's a 386 LL for sale in marketplace at the moment, hence the reason for watching your review. Might just have to bite the bullet & pick it up. It will be interesting comparing the newer LL to my almost 40 year old rods. Thanks for your review & tight lines!

    What a great birthday gift! Happy birthday!! I have a Sage LL, 4 wt 9 foot. I actually lost it in my local river a few days before Easter, 2020. Watched it go downstream and away. Thought it was gone for good. A fellow hooked and brought it in, size 20 nymph, hooked in the tip top guide. Came back on Easter, so folks said I should name the rod Jesus, as it rose again.....

    I've fished Sage LL rods for years and built them all. In 2020 I built a 4W 8ft 6in from a four piece blank which is a lovely wine/burgundy color. The blank cost $400 and the cork handle, eyelets etc added about $150. The factory built rod went for about $1,000 so I saved a fair bit. The action is considered medium which I like as it allows for a slower, gentler presentation. You will fall in love with your new Sage LL and that was a wonderful gift from your wife.

    Great video, great fishing, great fish. Glad you love the new rod, best of luck with it. I recently broke my 10 foot 3 weight, bought a greys 10 foot 4 weight, now I must get a 4 weight line. I do much the same fishing as you, would you recommend a weight forward or a double taper. Tight lines and keep the video's coming. Cheers from an admirer in cork

    I prefer double taper for delicate presentation Martin,some prefer weight forward for distance,I like to fish at close range and have no need of weight for long casts,horses for courses.

    Hi George, great video. I've been looking at the LL for some time and fancy the 8' 9" #3 weight, but on the subject of lines. I really do favour a DT line for all my fishing but find they are getting more and more difficult to source. What make of DT are you using and can I get a hold of some? By the way your sherry spinner works a treat. cheers Peter

    Cheers Peter,I'm currently using a Snowbee double taper 3,it's much like any other line imo,I've recently cast the 8' 9",it's a different rod altogether than the 7'9",I much prefer the shorter version,it just feels right,horses for courses I suppose.Glad the spinner is working for you,tight lines a chara.

    Bréithla shona duit George health to enjoy the new rod but in my opinion you would catch great trout using the shaft of a brush and some bailer twine I myself have a sage X 9’ #5 and I absolutely love it great rod. Looking forward to see you tie the sherry spinner. Go raibh maith agat mo chara.

    Glad you liked the new rod, question regard the spinner is it being Fished dry or sub surface or both as time goes on? Beard is on point as usual. Great video 🎣

  • @springerspanielful

    @springerspanielful

    The spinner is a surface film fly,however it can sometimes sink just a little due to surface tension or water turbulence,it works equally well in both scenarios.Thanks for the beard compliment Tim,tight lines.

    @@springerspanielful I looked up your spinner tying video you explained it in that, but that was after I posted a question, didn't know it was the spent fly though, thanks again for a great video, hope the sage is getting a lot of use.

    Hi George, great video, can see this rod helps to cast a nice tight loop! I'm feeling' out a Trout LL 7'9 @ 3# for small streams /rivers that are typically covered in tress and bushes. I mostly switch between nymphs & dries, would need it to load super-easy particularly for a light DT line & double nymph rig. In your opinion would it be suitable for my purposes? Go raibh mile aris!

  • @springerspanielful

    @springerspanielful

    Жыл бұрын

    It's eminently suited to small stream work,however it's what I would regard as primarily a dry fly rod with nymphs limited to very small single patterns.
