Sage Grouse on Yellowstone - Get the Real Story!

Ойын-сауық

This wildlife conservation story features the most important bird you've probably never heard of. Sage grouse hunting has been a fixture of American culture since the earliest pioneers settled the West. This native upland game bird is the canary in the coal mine for the sagebrush landscape it calls home. Sagebrush habitat loss due to a variety of threats could place the sage grouse on the endangered species list affecting western public lands the size of Texas! Join Wingmen Todd Helms and Ike Eastman as they explore the story of the sage grouse. This film aims to open the eyes of the American public to an issue they are likely completely unaware of, but could have a real impact on their day to day lives. Get the full story. Releasing early 2023.

I rarely hear about the ravens that have been targeting their nests. Whenever I hear big proposals, it never comes up. Yet, it is a major factor.

You are exactly right. Raven depredation on sage grouses nests is a major issue. Stay tuned for our full feature film on this subject. We dive into the nitty gritty of all the challenges surrounding this conservation issue.

Let's talk about the elephant in the room. Public land grazing has destroyed more habitat than all other sources combined IMO. Look at any sagebrush public land system that is being grazed by sheep and cattle year in and year out and you will see an environment void of cover, food and MATURE, undamaged sagebrush. Cattle and sheep graze the landscape to bare dirt and destroy the sagebrush and naturally occuring plant life. I see it in all the 3000 sq miles of public lands I hike, scout, fish and hunt on. Sagebrush broken down, grasses gtazed to dirt and trampled, creeks and water holes degraded with manure and urine... trampled to nasty mudholes.

You're spot on that improper grazing practices can definitely add to the problem. Combine that with feral horses, cheatgrass, drought and predation, it's no easy feat to conserve these habitats. Thanks for your comment. Stay tuned for the full film. We break down all the threats and what's being done to address them.

Amen, the fed’s want to make $$$ & soo do ranchers…all at the expense of our public lands, tax payers, most importantly the wildlife that call the land there home. Livestock causes the most destruction, hands down…to say that wild horses & predators are part of the problem is a cop-out for the feds & private ranchers alike, gas & oil, etc. This all boils down to $$$ and who’s wallet it affects the most. I’m all for ranching, livestock can have a profound effect on keeping the landscape at bay. Reducing the effects of wildfire mitigation, however this is very minimal and can create other larger issues such as the one we are discussing here.

So, spot on. I'm a 6th generation idahoan sage-grouse hunter/upland hunter. I spend approximately 50 day in the field during upland season. I see the devastation of over grazing as the number 1 reason for sage-grouse decline. It's all about money. Government vs. big business. Snuffs out the little guy and his public lands, and all the animals within

How come no orange when bird hunting? Only fueling non hunters by not being safety minded.
