I'm not austrailian (Texas born and raised) but I do like to 4 wheel, but I have never seen such a thing as this. Incredible driving, incredible rigs, and plenty of entertaining and informative content. Since returning from a Feburary Big Bend backcountry camp trip to a COVID locked down world I have been watching your enormous back log of youtube videos almost daily (sometimes 2 X a day). I might not be an Austrailian 4 wheeler, but I watched 4WD action yesterday so I can now drive anything and fix anything that is broken. lol Love you guys, started planning an Austrailia trip for 2025 just from watching your awesome videos. I've got 5 years to prep for it and let the economy recharge. Is it even possible to rent a 4WD to drive on some of your "mild tracks"? Cheers, keep up the content!!!

I've got a 2018 MQ Triton Exceed and took it to Ultimate Diesel Tune and the results I had are almost identical to the results you guys showed here - demonstrates consistency. Ultimate were really good at asking me what I use it for now and what I want to use it for including future mods. Thankfully I'm not carrying any tradie boxes on the back and I'm not wanting a muscle 4x4 either. I love how it performs now even when I'm not towing my 14ft offroad campervan. I compared some prices but half of them never called me back so Ultimate got my business based on 95% of your recommendation Shauno!! Bloody legend mate! It's almost got me wanting to do the Cape!

I had my 200 series ECT and ECU remapped, the best thing I ever did. Went from 142.3 kw atw to 178.4 kw atw close enough to 25% improvement. Torque improved by 25% too. The ECT now drops into 6th at 80 Kmh and I’m pulling 1500 rpm at 100 km/h. Economy has also improved both when towing and unladen. It goes like a scalded cat.

In combustion engines, power is the mathematical product of torque and angular velocity (=RPM). Since Diesel engines have a natural RPM limit due to the way combustion works, the only way to get more power is to increase torque.

I have had my Hilux tuned by Ultimate diesel in Dandenong, I highly recommend using them to get the power and torque out of your 4wd. They really do care about your vehicle and make you 100% aware of any potential problems pre tune, I spent $5500 to get great numbers out of my Hilux, in this they also found my injectors to be leaking and in need of replacement. All round they have helped me discover the true potential from my 4wd and have done so safely and without any unnecessary nonsense. Thank you Ultimate Tuning Dandenong!

Are services inherently more expensive there in Australia? I live in Las Vegas USA, and I spent $500 bucks for a dyno tune on my vehicle. $5500!? Did they do a complete rebuild for you? That's obscenely expensive for tuning. $5500 bucks would upgrade both turbos on my truck (3.5 ecoboost), or upgrade to a Whipple 3.4 for my car.

Thanks Shaun for getting me onto this mob, it was from the video of the 1000 buck track. Got a $200 discount too, bonus 👍👍 thanks mate. Got my Hilux 2017 sr5 done. I got it done by Andrew, from the Dandenong branch. It’s done 90k plus k’s, been averaging 10.5/100 pre tune, post tune 8.8/100- 9.1/100, amazing benefits. I absolutely love how the vehicle can accelerate and the rev gauge just sits on around 2k and sometimes even drops in revs slightly, while accelerating in speed. I decided to do a tune for fuel consumption reasons and not power reasons. However, vehicle now looses traction when I tow my trailer up hills on take off, it has never done that while towing in the past. I can not believe the fuel saving. When I get my next lux, I’m getting it done from the time the dealer hands me the key. Unfortunately, my intake was fairly dirty, so there was an additional cost to do a chemical clean to the intake manifold, all good though. Very happy with my tune, and highly recommended.

I recently removed my throttle controller because it was causing permanent DTCs and limp mode requiring a trip to the auto leckie on a flat top, the leckie erasing the DTC. This happened twice before he confirmed it was the chip in the controller degrading. The controller had been in for a year without problem up till then. A proper tune will always be best, I think.

Very informative, but sounded like an advertisement for Ultimate Diesel Tuning towards the end. I'm scepitical about ALL of the discussed upgrades, in particular what happens if the engine in a new vehicle fails and the warranty is voided. Will the Chip supplier/ECU Tuner repair the engine? Will they offer a warranty on the drivetrain for the life of the factory warranty? Lastly, Shaun if what UDT offers is so safe have YOU had them tune/upgrade ALL 3 of your vehicles?, what about Grahams D-Max? I think this should be an HONEST discussion for the next Beers in the Shed.

I've heard some horror stories about dyno tunes gone wrong, customers left with paper weights and a large bill. How do Ultimate Diesel Tuning work with helping out a customer should a tune result in a blown motor? Will you re-tuned it for free once the motor has been repaired? I know you say you do a pre-tune inspection. But even doing everything right, you can't plan for a motor dropping a valve or blowing a piston whilst on the dyno. After-sales service is one of those things often overlooked. So would love to know your policy around this. Cheers

If you knew that what the manufacturers designed the vehicle for then you would understand that power (work) directly relates back to wear and failure rate. The 79 was designed for harder use at the upper end of its GVM and towing capacity and hence why power is purposely lower than what you might expect for a larger engine as comparing to a vehicle that’s more orientated to cruising the family up and down the highway with the occasional trailer that was clearly designed for less work. Manufacturers ultimately balance what the vehicle is designed to do with the power output to ensure a long life. Even comparing two vehicles with the same engine as the 79 and 200 series you will find that the 200 has another turbo to increase air to create the ability to add more fuel for power. The average person and what the 200 series was designed for is carting people in comfort up and down the highway with the occasional trailer and hence not expected that it will work as hard as the 79 that’s designed to be loaded up and used hard in industry which will increase the wear and failure rate. Contrary to popular belief, the same engine that is designed for harder use should have a lower power output than one used for less as it all relates back to wear and failure rate. If you want something to last longer and hence have less wear and less chance of failure then it’s as simple as lowering the power output it can do.

On a 4WD dyno - we have 4WD dynos installed at all of our workshops. Currently, the factory ECUs in the 2litre Everests/Rangers/Raptors are unable to be remapped. We get around this by fitting a supplementary ECU to it, which then gives us full control over the ECU & allows us to custom dyno tune it. Results vary from car to car as we do custom dyno tune every vehicle individually depending on what the car is used for & how the owner would like it tuned. On one of the 2Litre bi turbo engines, expect from a 20% gain in power & torque upwards.

Can you please do this same test with smaller displacement common rail, 2.8-3.0? Dyno and the actual road test with van, no tune or exhaust, tune with no exhaust and the a tune with exhaust. It doesn't affect the different modes, Glen. You talk about safe power and dynos but you fail to mention that you have grossly exceeded the maximum torque specifications for both the clutch and gearbox for that landcruiser. They are typical gains that most custom dyno tuners achieve with 70 Series Cruisers. The drivelines & gearboxes on them are very strong, never had any issues. However, the clutch must be replaced with an upgraded heavy-duty item, but that's all - the other OEM parts handle the extra torque fine.

On these mechanical diesels you fuel according to the boost pressure the turbo can create. You're starting with the right recipe there, just note the stock CT26 is only good for 15psi reliably. I've you want quicker spool and more boost you'll have to go for a Gturbo which has been designed specially for these engines. ALWAYS check your EGT's pre turbo and make sure to never exceed 700C for long periods of time. Not every tuning shop knows how to properly tune these diesel motors so make sure you do your research before hand. If they don't measure AFR and EGTs when tuning I'd stay clear away.

I would be driving normally and all of a sudden, my bakkie would stall. At times when i start the engine, my bakkie would stall, and sometimes when i put my bakkie in reverse, it would stall. I took my bakkie for repairs (140000 KM) and it seems like i have had no issues after that. However, i have to spend R13000 ($1111.95) on my engine alone, and additional R19600 ($1676.47) on my steering rack and rear suspension. I think it's a a rip off! I never fixed a car/bakkie before, but i am really willing to learn. Is there someone who can perhaps help me and Guide Me?

Just going off 0 experience to but I’m sure the fuel pressure is still way up there for the vid but with the tune they are making the power more efficient over just throwing fuel at it a tune you will have a cleaner burn better better power for the fuel your using just adding fuel will soot the internals a lot quicker and kill your dfp before your next service if you have one still
