SAFE and the E-Flite Apprentice S

Enhanced courtesy of the new SAFE technology that takes 6-axis stabilisation technology to a whole new dimension to provide an on-board safety net that's with you every step of the way. SAFE is designed to help limit the response envelope that the airplane can otherwise be placed into by over control caused by pilot input. With SAFE technology, the novice pilot can learn and grow accustomed to the flight control responses as the technology limits the bank angle or the climb or descend rate within preset limits regardless of the transmitter control inputs.

My 13 year old son has never flown an RC plane before. I stood next to him while he took off and he flew 3 batteries through it without any issues at all. I couldn’t believe how smooth he lands it. I want to get the same electronics for my Four Star. It’s definitely an amazing combination. The LAS is remarkable. By far the best Trainer available

Just flew the Apprentice for the first time tonight. Never flown an rc plane before, just a simulator. Ran two batteries through it, had a great time and didnt even break anything. If you are a novice this is a great way to start. Highly recommend this plane!

This is by far the coolest entry level rtf plane kit I have ever seen. If marketed the right way and flight demonstrations made this could be a huge selling point for people who always wanted to fly but were too scared

To anyone watching this video. If you are getting into RC planes, or just wanting to learn, this is the plane for you. Ignore all the old timers on here! None of them have ever flown an Apprentice so they do not know. I have had 3 of them and they are the very best trainer RC plane out there. By coupling this with a Phoenix simulator, you can even teach yourself to fly. I know, because I did it.

I am beyond impressed with this technology. When I was studying engineering, this sort of thing was the kind of stuff I dreamed of (but even in my wildest day-dreams never to the extent that your team has actually implemented just a few years later) but I believed it was too advanced, and really not even attainable for rc's in my life-time. The Apprentice S 15e with SAFE is a true masterpiece. I hope to always have one in mint condition. I kind of would like a bigger plane with "beginner mode" as an option too. It's a durable plane (I'm very impressed with how it survived an careless incident so well with such minor damage--> in the seconds before impact I was expecting the plane to crumble). Everything about these planes is spectacular from the radios to the gyros to the actual implementation. You guys have made my wildest dreams come true. I thought that I wouldn't enjoy beginner mode but as it turns out, I actually love it. My only fear is that I will grow too attached to it. It really is cool. I am so impressed with what your engineers have accomplished here that I am truly astounded every single flight. I am a major fan. You guys are rock-stars for real. Panic Switch???? Seriously? That isn't even in video games!!! It's spectacular! B.T.W., I keep forgetting to use it.

It may sound strange but until you get into a situation where you need to recover the aircraft, you don't know how good you are! It all comes from muscle memory and experience. Once you have worked out how your aircraft handles you will have a better understanding of how to recover from situations(how much airspeed you need to recover in a stall etc), but also flying 2 mistakes high helps too! You just need to have faith in yourself!

I have been flying trainer planes with side assistance, but I think if Safe is what it claims to be, I can see doing things, which I might only dare on a flight simulator and avoid real life crashes. Also, taking wind factors into account, beginners might get out of sharp banks, in lower than comfortable altitudes, which again could get flyers to practice in such "uncomfortable" conditions. Finally, it would be a pleasure to move from beginner's to intermediate and expert modes as required!

How about stabilize the model when it is windy and turbulent? Gives it a greater flight envelope. Makes the model feel much more locked in and stable. Flies where the sticks push it, not the wind. So you can do all this for your students all while THEY maintain complete control of the plane? That's pretty amazing of you. I learned, the old way, with no help or trainer. Not everyone lives in a town with clubs or other flyers, we all don't have that luxuary. Open your mind a tad.

Uhhhmm! My first plane was the apprentice, I still fly it to its limits, it is a great beginner plane, and I found I can do some aerobatics with it that many including myself thought were not possible with it. The apprentice is truly the little airplane that could! I feel that these safeguards added to it are a double edged sword, crashing my apprentice twice and learning from my mistakes was an invaluable part of being a good pilot, it would've been nice to see a tougher landing gear also

I'd love to purchase one of these but where can I find the exact instructions for setting up a DX6 with everything it needs to take advantage of all of the features? I'm surprised to see that it is not one of the downloadable configurations on Spektrum's website. I have seen bits and pieces but none of them deals with things like setting D/R, etc. I would love to see a precise list of setup instructions in that the manual leaves me with questions.

(Continued) considering it is a trainer and first landings can be pretty hard, I completely removed, modified, replaced the stock gear for a much stronger one that hasn't failed yet, the new apprentice seems nice although a little dumbed down I think, the panic feature should have been the only feature, with full flight parameters active at all times, please do improve the deplorable nose gear though, I would have gladly paid more for it off the start!

Why not??? the electronics and all the stuff might also be used in another plane.. get oevr it. Nicads and FM is over long ago. the receiver can be used in another plane. the AS3x can be used in ANY plane.. the servos can be used in all planes so asthe motor.Even the Radio is the vbest buddy radio I could think of and can also be used on simulators.. it's a fair price..

I bought Apprentice S 15E RTF. After power up all controls were checked (neutral, direction & travel)- okay. After SAFE system initialization all controls checked okay except there was no "DOWN" elevator travel. "UP" elevator travel was okay. I rebind the Tx/Rx but with same result. I reconfigured a DX8 tx & rebind. With SAFE activated...again no "DOWN" elevator. Is this normal?

But the AS3X electronics are still flying the plane for you! Why would you want that? In this age of GPS guided quad rotors, sure its pretty cool to tell it to fly over there but it isn't as fun as flying the damn thing yourself! I'm not saying the DX5e isn't a good transmitter but there are cheaper alternatives if you're stuck for cash!

cor $300? where did you get your first plane from horizon hobby? divide it by three and that's about how much the plane I learnt to fly on cost. Even less actually, my grandad bought me the 35mhz receiver for my birthday. It used nicads and a brushed motor and I still have all the bits, the plane is more epoxy than foam but taught me to fly. Can you honestly say that if you are given the tools to make something so easy that it flies itself that you will get anywhere near as much fun out of it?

  • @vanepico
    @vanepico11 жыл бұрын

If you're not prepared for your plane to crash anytime you fly it then you're in the wrong hobby, it could fly into another, you could get radio lockout, a servo could fail etc and hey its your first plane, you might even take off with reversed controls, will your box of tricks save you there?

If the winds too strong for the plane or your skill level you shouldn't be flying anyway? An edf is not really a very forgiving trainer to begin with, what's wrong with a standard nitro trainer and buddybox or an electric rudder elevator model if you haven't got a local club?

Great! lets all go out and have our planes fly themselves! That will give us a feeling of achievement...... Like photography, taking good pictures means f all because computers do all the settings for you. If you aren't prepared to crash and are disheartened after one crash it ain't the hobby for you but if it is something you want to do you'll glue that plane back together and give it another go. what'll happen when they do inevitably crash? Why do we learn on hideous planes in the first place

No it is noooot. You are so wrong. It just makes a small plane fly like a big one because there is less interfeerance from the wind. Ok I agree that you might learn better but why experience the disappointment in early stages. Do you know how mny ppl gave up on the hobby because of this first time failure? I sharpened my skills with q smallmicro cox warbird my self. Leqrned to fly with exremely windy conditions. My first plane ever was an edf qn. Wish I had something like this then.

You want your planes to fly emself go ahead, I'd rather fly mine myself, using my eyes and hands not gyros and accelerometers. If all you do when you get even slightly out of your comfort zone is flick a switch and it levels everything out how will you learn then? If it is someone buddy boxing they can give you adequate chance to get yourself out of it before taking control, a gyro cannot do that. Befriend someone who knows what they're doing and buddybox with them......
