Safari of my Life - Wildlife Photography Documentary with Klaus Tiedge

A film capturing not only what it's like to be on safari in Kenya but also telling a tale of bravery in the face of adversity. "Life is too short not to do exactly what you want."
In 2017 Klaus Tiedge embarked on a rather ambitious journey to go to Kenya in 2018 and make a film.
This “film idea” was something that Klaus had been thinking about doing for a few years already as a way to challenge himself to do something more than “just” photography. He hired film editor, Dean Paarman, to start the process by turning his existing footage into short videos for social media.
After receiving shocking news that Klaus was diagnosed with life threatening cancer, the idea of a film turned from an idea into a must-do goal.
"Life is too short not to do exactly what you want."
Klaus underwent a severe surgery in 2017 and while in recovery decided that when he was out of the hospital, the planning would begin. True to his word Klaus spoke to his film editor Dean Paarman and proposed he come with to help make this project a reality.
By February 2018 only final touches were required before the two of them would set off to film “The Safari of a Lifetime”.
An epic month of adventure, blood, sweat and tears ensued. Klaus’s Family joined them for the last week to make it one of the most memorable safari trips of all time.
(The film also includes some of the last footage of "Big Tim" - the Amboseli Elephant - which sadly passed away earlier in 2020)

Experienced stunning safaris in Tansania, Ngorongoro, Botswana/Okavango, Namibia, Kalahari, Kruger/Manyeleti, but Kenya with its stunning landscape, and the national parks of Maasai mara, samburo, amboseli, Tsavo/Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya, remains in my heart for ever. Maasai mara and its abitants is the greatest place I've ever seen. Klaus , thank you so much to bring me Kenya and the Maasai so near. A very inspirational documentary, Klaus's story is incredible! After watching the video, I sadly learned that Klaus has since passed away. I am a photographer in Ontario Canada. (I was a social worker before I got sick) I have been researching places in Africa to come and shoot the magnificent scenery and wildlife and came across Klaus's documentary. Like others who have shared a bit of their stories here, Klaus's story really hit home for me. I had a sudden cardiac arrest in 2013 and have had 3 other significant cardiac events since then. I have died 3 times and needed to be resuscitated. After my cardiac arrest I had an anoxic brain injury , heart failure and seizures. I was just given the OK by my neurologist, cardiologist and electrocardiologist to do my trip to Africa! It is something I have wanted to do for a long time! I am still in the planning stage but the trip will most likely take place in 2022! Thank you for sharing this! Looking forward to a trip of a lifetime!!

I love Africa it’s always been one of my favorite traveled places. I’ve also been stuck in the mud, on safari in Botswana. I think it is quite common in areas when there has been a lot of rain. Unfortunately i never got to go to Kenya, although it was one of the places I wanted to visit on my first trip to Africa. Cape Town is one of the most beautiful places in the world. It was sad to hear that Klaus passed away. Just this year on the first day of the first month I lost my youngest brother to cancer. He was only a few years younger than Klaus. So this video, although beautiful in content, brought so much sadness. It’s unbelievable how cancer takes life away. My brother was healthy, ate organic, healthy, and juiced, then found out one day he had stage 4 colon cancer. It ripped our hearts to pieces. We have been able to get through it, because we know without a doubt that he is in heaven. Klaus was obviously a very kind man. Someone who not only loved people, but animals and nature.

dear klaus. you embarked on your filming the month and year my father died of multiple myeloma. our family had just returned from kenya and tanzania. my mother paid for and made all of the travel arrangements so we could experience a last family trip of epic proportions. your works captured so much beauty, which we also enjoyed, and brings back unforgettable lifelong memories. junior was also our guide for part of our journey, and we visited many many of the places you filmed and photographed. While watching I felt as if I was with my Dad, Mom, and son, again. While my son and I were sleeping in our serengeti tent, we awoke at 4 am to a huge parade of multi generational elephants; the mother passing in front of us was clutched by a newborn. the ever changing light in africa leaves me speechless. Africa made me decide to change from a vehicle photographer to an atmospheric and landscape photographer. I wish everyone in the world could experience Africa. All of her people smile more than any other. Your family tribute is a masterpiece, not only of photography but it shows us what is in your good heart. God speed and thank you. SUBSCRIBED!

I came across this and immediately felt connected, as I went to Kenya and Tanzania following 3 spine surgeries in 2.5 years.. out of the blue, I knew I wanted to see the Masai Mara and it didn't disappoint. There is no way to truly understand how amazing the journey is through adversity and lifes challenges and to sit there in the wild and be surrounded by lions, elephants and all of the other majestic beings... it's truly life changing and humbling. Well Done. Now, I cannot wait to return.. I was also there in 2020 and left right as Covid came across the world. I've kept in touch with my Masai guide and will return... After having to challenge myself to walk again, doctors telling me that I couldn't/shouldn't do certain things.. I too got stuck in the mud and had to be helped while Giraffe's walked circles around us watching.. listening to the animals at night from my tent.. and as a woman, I went alone... and never knew anyone else that had been there. Africa not only inspired me, but made me want to live. Very inspiring... rest in peace..

Thank you klause for your smile and for loving Gods amazing creations and for making the most of your life and sharing that with us, your admirers.. That comes through in your photographs for sure! I am a two time survivor of cancer. I completely understood exactly what you meant when you said you wanted to out live your diagnosis to live a longer and better life regardless of what your doctors said you would. I was never given any limits, however I have always put it in God's hands and I'm trusting him. I'm going to take what ever he gives me! I cried during this video at the beauty of the landscape and the animals. I was blessed to have seen it. May God bless you all too.😍 👍

I’m lost for words. I started crying within the first 2:14 of watching this video. I paused it for a number of minutes, rewound it, and played it once again. This time, at 2:14, I couldn’t help but burst into tears. I haven’t heard of Klaus before these moments. I’m the founder of 3 Australian wildlife groups. I’ve never been a part of any volunteer group, or had any experience working our amazing native animals. In mid November 2019 I saw some aerial footage of my local area, and I was absolutely horrified and in shock, I couldn’t believe the sheer devastation of the fires that literally surrounded our local region, for well over 6 weeks straight, over 240 consecutive days, the state of New South Wales alone was overwhelmed by fire, but it wasn’t only New South Wales that suffered. We lost over 46 MILLION ACRES of land. I had to do something, anything, and everything I possibly could, to help support as many traumatised people as I could, to also save countless animals. Pouring an average of 140 hours per week, into saving who knows??? Maybe thousands, maybe tens of thousands of animals. Mid November 2019 I launched my first wildlife group. To this day, I have not had a single day off. I had absolutely no idea of what I was getting myself into, I dived blindly into the unknown, For the first time in my entire life, I now have a purpose, a calling. And I know, with all of my heart and soul. This will be my journey. I know, this is my life. I have fallen in love, learning from Australia’s Wonderful Wildlife Carer Volunteers. I’m constantly thinking outside the box, creating unique and innovative, heartwarming, wonderful ways of supporting our wildlife carers, and ultimately supporting our wildlife. I was searching KZread, just tonight, looking for creative ways of making small wildlife videos. I can’t say I’ve ever watched a KZread video, until just now, that has made me think, this is meant to be. I would love to speak with you if possible please Sandra. It would mean the world to me in so many ways, and, I’m positive, you’ll understand why. I’m Chris O’Donnell & my email address is codfish73@outlook.com Thank you

Having been to Kenya on Safari twice - 1990 and 1991, I saw much of what I saw. I've always loved Africa since I was a boy, and this film was a wee bit emotional. I dearly wish I could buy this film to keep. Many thanks to a lovely man and his family, in Africa also. God Bless.

@@thecadschool3656 yes unfortunately he passed away. Despite his defiance towards his illness that is so boldly illustrated in the film, he similarly embraced his circumstances as they turned. I can say I wish this did not have to happen, but it did and the way it all went was actually a blessing in disguise. Klaus, unlike many other cancer victims died well, with dignity. It is a testiment to his will and outlook in life. I miss him. I still had more to learn from him, but I have definitely taken all thst I can from this journey together. Our time was precious, and I will always have this film to remind me what happened here. I am blessed.
