Your Love Is King is one of the GREATEST love songs ever made. As sappy as it sounds, it’s like the perfect song to dance to in the middle of the living room with the love of your life.

sade is the definition of picking quality over quantity. they take their time to release solid rnb soul music.
It’s insane to think about now, but Sade actually had trouble breaking through in the UK at the time, and so she’s actually of the few UK acts that had major success in America first. The fact that we had black radio stations and formats like Quiet Storm that pushed R&B did a lot to boost her.

If selling a million copies of your debut album and winning the Brit Award for Best Album of the year is "trouble", I'd like to know what a huge overnight success looks like. People were queuing round the block to see Sade play at Heaven before she'd even released the album. She ultimately achieved more "hits" in the US, but the debut album was a phenomenon in Britain.
Sade rules!! She's supposed to drop a new album this year: I hope so, her voice is very much missed!!
My No.1 streamed Spotify Artist of 2022. And damn proud of it too. One of the absolute best at her craft.
Thank you very much for reviewing this one. Wish the review was for “Love Deluxe” instead, but still, thank you. Sade is one my favorite artists ever. Her discography is so incredibly important to me. Even her later works like “Lovers Rock” really have such a special place in my heart. I’ve been waiting for a Sade classic review for years.

I am stumbling over myself to write this comment. I stan for this band and this band alone. Diamond Life is one of the albums I turn to when I am not sure what I want to listen to but I don't have to worry about not liking any song that comes on. Sade is absolutely underrated as a songwriter because it is made explicitly clear (on the vinyl records at least) that while she collaborates on the music with the band she's the primarily lyricist. This record is especially excellent because when Sade got signed, Epic wanted her to go to America and work with Quincy Jones and she chose to stay in the UK work with her band. A decision I am sure she has no regrets about. I would say Sade as an artist is quietly the most influential R&B artist for a certain generation. That laid back vibey act has been seen in a plethora of new female debuts from the 2010s but none of them it seems, has yet to capture the magic of having a crew of musicians backing them that can churn out music that striked the chord Sade did. *Fun Fact* Sally is about the Salvation Army not a lady 🤯 This was confirmed by Stuart Matthewman himself. Now listen to Sally and tell me Sade isn't gifted with the pen.

Sade’s cover of Thin Lizzy’s Still In Love With You from her greatest hits cd was truly an unexpected inspired choice of cover songs. So damn cool. Who woulda thought? Reinforces the genius of both Sade and Thin Lizzy.

Too classic of a record! She’s my favorite female artist of all times.
Still one of my favorite albums ever. As you can tell I’m a huge fan of promise, as well as every other Sade album.
I unintentionally grew up with Sade due to adults playing her songs on the radio. Love Diamond Life. Smooth Operator, Hang on your love, your love is king. All amazing.
Oh I dropped EVERYTHING When I saw that notification. I fucking adore this woman. Every album a gem
Bought this on vinyl a few years back not having heard of her before as it was only about £2 and thought I’d give it a shot. One of the best purchases I’ve made
I think it’s a testament to her talent that she can release an album 8-10 years after the last and have it still hit number one on the charts, because everyone can essentially guarantee that it’s gonna be amazing just because it’s Sade making it. She’s a goddess of pop music.

Sade is my favourite singer and I screamed when I saw the notification because I've wanted you to review one of her albums for classics week for years. Her impact can't be overstated. That being said I don't understand how you can dismiss Steely Dan as "elevator music" but give Sade this much praise. She basically invented vaporwave which is just glorified elevator music (but that's what makes it so good). I'm kidding about the vaporwave thing but also not really.
I’m cutting your toes off if you say something negative. Sade is Love. Sade is Life. Edit: Yea aight.
I also HIGHKY recommend viewing her/their music videos throughout her career. They only add to the already great songs.
Sade is amazing, I grew up hearing her song Smooth Operator. Came out around the time I was born.
My favorite artist. I was a toddler when I fell in love with album in particular. Whenever I hear Cherry Pie it’s so addictive I can’t stop singing it. Also Frankie’s First Affair.

HOLY FUCK, was not expecting this, but very glad to see this. Bought this album on CD on a whim a year ago as a blind buy, and I do not regret it one bit.
What a coincidence! I heard this album just yesterday, one of my favorites from the 80s. Good review, Anthony, Sade is amazing!
Sade is a true gem. I absolutely adore that woman. So gorgeous & so talented. Hands down one of my favorite artists! I recently got a tattoo of her 💗
Growing up, whenever I'd hear "Smooth Operator", I always thought she was saying some nonsensical word instead of "operator". I always thought it was "smooth bopperayna" and I had significant trouble trying to find the song on the internet later in my life because I didn't know what a bopperayna was or how to spell it
One of my old favorites, my mom would play this record all the time around the house on cleaning days
Can you do a video on your most anticipated 2023 albums?
love this album so much! sade is one of my favorite solo vocalists. she’s such a great artist.
I’ve been keeping this album in mind for almost a whole year after your review and never having a chance to listen to it. Finally got the vinyl. Amazing record
This album appeals to so many types of people.
Hang On To Your Love and Cherry Pie are my favesss ❤

This, promise ( which I think is slightly better) and love deluxe are my favs from her.
Saw her live. Great show. She is so minimal in her moves, every move packed a huge wow. Saw her at an outdoor pavillion*. It was magic that night. I'm not sure I totally agree this is a 10... there were one or two clunkers. I used to love that song CHERRY PIE. *Just was reading up on Wikipedia, it was the 2000 tour in support of their LOVER'S ROCK album. Concord Pavilion in California. Magic. Ha, I thought at first they'd made a cover of the song by the Clash. That would have been something.
