Great video. Thanks for sharing
Appreciate the insight
Using spikes make it a lot tougher, and is a workout. I have done it back in the day but we had a lot heavier lock ons and didn’t use a linemen’s rope. I did it several times and said frickit. Have a buddy that did it all the time
Awesome bro! I look at each method like a tool. Sometimes sticks will work in a place where a climber won’t and if you spend enough time scouting, you can mark those spots. You can forget the spurs on public land in most places, but I think they will be awesome on some of the areas that I do hunt, that will allow them. My buddy is a lineman and he gave me a set so I bought some of the tree gaffs and hoping to try them out by the end of season Where it is legal.
I put a piece of high density foam on the bottom of my spur. Not on the spike. That completely eliminates the concern of stepping on the platform and dinging. It also helps from dulling the spurs while on the ground.
the guy knows what he's doing💪👍
I ordered the sladder climbing system, and you can climb any tree, basically any height, and it's 💯 legal in all states and it only weighs 1.12 lbs for $224
I have same spurs. I moded the upper strap with a leather belt. Works awesome an the bottom I left the original leather strap. I love them an they are super fast an effective to get up a tree. I have the tethered skeletor sticks as well but they take more time an are heavier. Also I can't get as high as I want with only 4 sticks. Only downside of the spurs is if a giant walks buy an ya dont have a shot an you want to get down fast an do a spot an stock hunt. Otherwise I use them on most hunts. Great video
My climbing spurs have a one inch strap with a buckle and holes like a belt does. They work awesome and never slack off while staying quite...
Been using tree climbing spurs with a saddle since the late 80’s. Mine comes up to my knees and leather with buckles like a belt. No platform. Take 3 screw-in steps to stand on when you reach the height you want and never take them off.
climbing with spurs is the bomb!...fast quiet compact and light...I liked my climb rites enough that I bit the bullet for the carbon kiwis...legal in my state surprisingly...the best part is the rappel down after the hunt...so much easier that sticking of any sort!...good job brodie

If you rappel down then you have to leave your rope correct?

Wish it was legal on public land
Great video, thank you for sharing. I like to use a leather buckle strap for fore foot rather than the Velcro. Maybe give that a shot?
Someone else doing it too! Been using a old leather strap pair from a garage sale a local tree climber had. Simple and fast go up put up your platform hop on take the spurs off
I’ve become a fan of SRT. I don’t like taking the spurs on and off. Rope packs easier. You do need a preset loop or a throw ball though. I keep the spurs for just such occasions as a hunt in a new area. But I also like the one stick for a first time in a tree hunt.
I sold my climb rites a couple years ago. Too many cottonwoods in my hunting area… tear outs were extremely frequent.
I got a pair of carbon Gheko’s a few years ago and I have to say, they’re worth every penny.
I'm Not professional but I use the sport climbers for saddle hunting and love it
I run the same Hys strap and same bag and always hang the bag directly in front of me so i can rest my knees on it
I’d recommend tethering in BEFORE stepping into your platform.
Cocok sekali buat yang ingin memanjat kayu bos keren
We got any climbers in the house! 🙋🏼♂️

@@jesselewton3517are you talking about damage to the tree?
I’m wondering what back pack you use?
Repelling down is the best way for me.

Rappelling down is the best part!!
Buy lineman hooks, leather straps with buckle, no noise.
what backpack are you using?
you should spray paint the blue. dear see that light flashlights
Who makes your pack?
What bag is that?
I know most wont agree and it will definitely feel uncomfortable at first, but I’ve been making a living climbing power poles for around 20 years, and climbed trees for most of my teens and early 20’s. Leave the hooks a little loose around your feet. You don’t want them super tight. Also, for the buckle biting into your calfs, grab a few maxi-pads from your wife’s purse and stick them to your legs. Having my legs rubbed raw, stinging and burning, and pouring blood from my legs taught me to improvise.
I get the point about the Velcro so why can’t you just undo the buckle? Then use the Velcro to put them back on tight to come down, your hunt is over👍🏻. I use leather strap buckles.

That’s what I was thinking. Just unbuckle.
Where's a good place to find some second-hand climbers?
Climbing spurs are ok BUT I was using pole spurs years ago and yes fell out of the tree when one of them broke out of the bark…totally my fault but just know that both tree and pole spurs are out there and beware…
How are you worried about the Velcro when it's literally attached to a buckle???? Just unclip the buckle 🙄
You should move your shin pads up to two fingers from the top of your tibia, might be more comfortable

And stay tight
Just get some voile straps and make it work around the ankles.
Your own property so do what you like. The most of us hunting public can't afford the ticket you're gonna get when you get busted.
I’m surprised there haven’t been TONS of comments about how your gonna kill all the trees with the spurs.

Think.... if someone walked up your legs with spikes...... your going to have injuries everytime they stepped on you. Its gives a weak spot/injury that leaves the tree susceptible to disease and pests. That would have otherwise not been present. I wish as "outdoor lovers" we could rid this technique

Arborists only use spikes on trees they're going to cut down. It can really impact the trees health. @@garrettramsay16
As a professional arborist this entire concept for hunter Is painful to watch
sadly.....From someone that has done arborist work since the late 80's when I was in school......Using them in a healthy tree damages it and opens it for infection..... Not real smart..... And I hunt too..... They should only be used on trees that you want to remove.....
Stop killing the trees. Go up MRS like a boss
Ridiculous
What a complete and utter disregard for the forest and the tree. Using spurs to climb trees on any public or federal land is illegal. And to do that on private property is just rude as it really damages the tree.
