I was blessed to be acquainted with Red, and I can tell you he was a man of integrity with a deep love of God, family, and country. Yes, his life was filled with personal tragedy, but he never lost his faith or sense of humor. If you miss his humor, I encourage you to check out the Red Skelton Museum in Vincennes, Indiana, which houses Red's costumes, awards, many of his original paintings, and wonderful other exhibits. They host an annual festival honoring Red each summer. Also check out Brian Hoffman, a talented Skelton impersonator who is endorsed by the Skelton estate, at the Red Skelton Tribute Theater in Pigeon Forge, TN. Brian's impersonation of Red is amazingly spot-on and a wonderful way to relive those great memories. May God bless the memory of Red Skelton and the ideals for which he stood.

My family and I loved Red. I couldn’t say his last name and called him Red Skeleton. Lol.

Our family ALWAYS watched "The Red Skelton Show," every week. It was good wholesome family content with a dash of humor. I remember him because he always reminded me of a very happy person...inside and outside. 🙏RIP RED SKELTON 🙏

My grandmother didn’t speak or understand English but she loved watching his show. She called him “El viejito” the old man eventho she was older than he was 😊 Those were the days when the entire family gathered around the one and only tv in the home.

62 years ago he pointed me out in a crowd and said I was the smartest one there I was 4 years old. Never forget him.

I'm 74 and grew up watching The Red Skelton Show. I remember all his funny characters and at the end of the show he would have an adorable little 4 year old child he would talk to. If I can recall, her name was Victoria Mianik. I like the two seagulls called Gertrude and Seaclift.

I wasn’t born till 67 but, I did get to see some of his tv shows because, they watched him all the time. I really didn’t like clowns but, I did like it when, he played Freddy the Freeloader and, more of when,he played the sad clown. When, I got older, I got into the crying clowns and, when, I actually got older in my 20s, Fingerhut, had a porcelain clown doll that, looked like Freddy the Freeloader, I had the doll for yrs and, during a move he eventually broke. I was heartbroken! I think Red Skeleton connected to everyone because,not only did he play lovable characters but, he just showed that he was such a lovable and funny always when, you seen him on other tv shows and the interviews he did.

Love Red Skelton! Bless him for the joy and happiness he brought my family and me.

My grandmother, on my mother’s side, lived with us when I was young and we watch Red together every week. To this day, my wife, oldest daughter and I watch the reruns on cable TV. His style is timeless, message sincere and he always ended with “Good night and may God Bless”.

He is an extraordinary comedic genius. He's legendary. All Respects to Red.

He was a gracious man. As a guest on a show my wife was a producer on, she greeted him in the green room prior to his appearance. He was open and personable ro her and they talked for a while. After the appearance, she pooped in again to say goodbye and thank him. He then asked her to stay a few minutes to continue chatting. While chatting he was scribbling on a paper napkin. As he left he handed her the napkin that had a sketch of a clown with a dedication to her. Class act and a kind gentleman. May god bless

I love Red Skelton. Years ago (about 1975) I purchased one of his autographed lithographs and a number of his plates. I gave them to a loved one as a gift. I've been a 'celebrity impressionist' for many years and Red is one of my voice impressions. I watched his show throughout the 1950s, and beyond. He has to be one of the greatest entertainers the world has ever seen. I'd like to see a 'bio-picture' about his life.

I have many, many warm memories of watching Skelton on TV growing up. His show covered the period from when we first got a TV until I was an adult.

The Red Skelton Show was part of life for many years. The whole family loved his show for so many reasons, the characters, the guest stars the flying chicken on a wire kept everybody smiling. He not only made us laugh but he laughed at his own jokes many times... not too many comedians do that. As a kid guest stars are just people but now older, its amazing all the people he had ...like John Wayne, Vincent Price, Mickey Rooney and so so many more. Saw him live in Ottawa, Canada in the 90;s and he played his famous Character of Gertrude the Seagull and did that one man Commercial selling a Alcholic drink...and gets a little drunker every take. Did the whole show standing up and at the end got back in his wheelchair. The corridors where full of his paitings on the way out....A man of many many talents !

The greatest comedian that ever lived. We watch his reruns to this day and they never get old. He is very much missed.

Was in the Army 74 stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. Used to Hang out on Weekends at a Art Store. In the Ala Moana Shopping Center. Saw a poster in there saying Red would be in next weekend!! Made sure I was there to meet my Fave Comedian! Was crowded in the Store, but No One minded! He came out from the back with a Huge Smile. And was greeting everyone with Jokes. And hoped people liked his paintings!? The Whole Place was relaxed and Happy. Red was Super nice and autographed my Army Year Book for me! "To Frank from Red Skeleton. Good Night and May God Bless!!" And could see how lit up his face was. He told a joke about his Fave Seagulls. Laughter was his Whole Life!!

I grew up watching Red. He was my dad's favorite comedian. My favorite character was Clem Kadiddlehopper. Good night Red, and may God bless.

i grew up watching Red Skelton, and when I was around 20 in 1965 I was given tickets to his show, on 2 occassions and to me Red Skelton, was a TRUE ENTERTAINER, and PERSON. When the Camera was on he was great, and when it was off he was greater. To me and my friend unlike others in the entertainment industry Red Truly enjoyed making people laugh, HE WAS GREAT!!!! really miss you RED Gary O'Dell

I watched and enjoyed his TV show when I was growing up. He was really funny in a great many different ways. Multifaceted, really smart and sensitive to family values. He made this world a much better place. Thank you for sharing a bit of his life.

I loved the red Skelton show. I was born in 54 And watched it until it switched back to NBC in 1970

we were getting gas at a chevron in Palm Springs about '63 when Red pulled in with a red Rolls Royce--we went over to talk to him-he was nice,had a tape recorder in his hand--my mom was a slobbering drunk but he was nice to her--i was about 10-we were there for a air show--i watched a Lear Jet take off and hit the big mountains out of Palm Springs--nobody believed me but found out later it happened--the son of Tiger Air Freight was on the Lear Jet--sad--always enjoyed Red Skeltons tv show

I remember visiting with my aunt and getting angry at my parents for staying to late because we were going to miss Red's show. I kept telling my dad to go faster but he finally got angry and threatened to pull over. I shut up. Thank you for the memories.

I went to Reds hometown in Vincennes Indiana last year and visited his museum and the home he grew up in. His paintings are on display there and they are awesome! Side note, Vincennes Indiana is also the hometown of Alvy Moore, a.k.a. Hank Kimball, from Green Acres fame. :)

Before this video all I knew about RS was he ended his shows with, And, God Bless, which seemed like a very nice thing. I read about or saw a couple of clips about him saying he was a nice guy and pretty funny, held a cigar, and acted and dressed goofy as part of his TV character. Sad to hear about his tragic life experiences especially the loss of his young son,, but great to hear he made so much money selling his artwork! Also sad to hear about him inviting Spiro Agnew to his TV show. Agnew I think a real conservative would not support the Vietnam War. Thanks for the video!!

At 76, i watched the 'Red Skeleton show' from its beginning in 1951 & loved it! I seem to remember that his son played a 'poor' waif in his "Christmas Show" in the early 50's, but was replaced in later years! His 'real' life was far more tumultuous than his show business career & I wonder if he had a 'hidden' side?

There was an interview on KZread with him in Ontario Canada and he said he was a 33rd degree Mason but no longer does things for them because his schedule keeps him very busy.

Always the gentleman, clean jokes, great positive person. I never knew he had all these tragic things happen to him.

I saw him perform on a stage in a rodeo arena in the rain. Nobody left. Red poured water out of his shoes and kept on. It was a great show.

A classic performer. Actually his show was on NBC 1951-53 then CBS 1953-70 then back to NBC 1970-71

I used to sit mesmerized when ever his show was on. My favorite part of his show was when he would do his pantomime. That for me was pure magic. Rest in peace and much gratitude and love❤

I remember the Red Skelton show from when I was young. It was awesome, few entertainers have achieved what he did. The Apollo years were fantastic, and I will never forget the Mahna Menah song that they opened with. The man was a true artist, his different characters were incredible, and his wit was fantastic. We need more men like him today.

Thank you for this history. Reds daughter was my parents nextdoor neighbor for a few years. She was very nice. She didn't have anything nice to say about her father's parenting skills. She said he was typical Hollywood and she rarely saw him. She actually gave one of Red's clown drawings to my father. All the times I spoke with her she never mentioned her mother or brother. I wish I had known. I liked her a lot. She was pretty funny in her own right.

Saw a cute Halloween decoration: A red skeleton in a clown suit! Loved the show, especially Freddy the Freeloader!

I grew up in Vincennes. Red is a staple there. Annual Red Skelton day there. The Red Skelton Performing Arts Center at Vincennes University is across the street from his birth home. His last wife, Lothian, donated several of his costumes and props to the museum. My grandfather, Edward "Bones" Harper was Red's best friend. I remember my grandfather telling stories about passing newspapers together and their boyhood friendship. The Pantheon Theater that Ed Wynn performed at in Vincennes has been renovated and was the place that he invited Red to come see his show. Of course, after buying all his newspapers so he could pay the entrance price.

I met him on a plane...I was very ill... he was ahead of me as we got off..he turned around and said to me thank you for flying with us..while holding his cigar and laughing..for me it was the best omen ever..I was operated on and it was a success...he brought me luck..I grew up Watchung him...forever may God Bless him.

In Hollywood they gossiped that Red was occasionally verbally abusive to his wife. This was the first one. He was under pressure trying to do all the facets of his career and also they both were working and living together for so many hours that they got on each other’s nerves. The other great tragedy was the death of the boy. This just caused a mess in his life his wife’s life and everyone around the both of them. Think about it, she killed her self 10 years after the boy died! That 10 years was very torturous mostly for her but for him too. He was never able to get over it.

THE GREATEST CLOWN THAT EVER LIVED . I GREW UP WATCHING HIM . AT 60 YEARS OLD HE STILL MAKES ME LAUGH. NOT A BAD LEGACY FOR AN ENTERTAINER TO LEAVE BEHIDE . I WISH I COULD HAVE MET HIM TO TELL HIM WHAT JOY HE BROUGHT TO ME. ONE DAY I HOPE TO AFFORD ONE OF HIS CLOWN PAINTINGS . "GOD" BLESSED THE WORLD WITH YOU SIR .🤗

He did indeed have a LONG career. He stayed active until the mid 80's. But I also remember an old "Little Rascals" (Our Gang) show that featured 'Froggy' saying how much he liked him. Musta been in the mid 30's and Skelton couldn't have been more than 23.

My Grandfather of the Stanley family and Red grew up near each other and were childhood friends ,, my grandfather was born 1912 he died in 1984 at Plainfield Indiana .

Not only did I grow up watching the Red Skelton show, but was actually blessed to have seen him perform live on stage. I am sure he is now in heaven entertaining God and the angels.

Laugh In and the Red Skeleton show were my 2 favorite shows growing up as a kid in the 60’s.

I use to watch him as a kid. He was funny and he had a great time performing for audiences, to laugh, smile, we will laugh together type personality. Didn’t know that his show lasted for 20+ years. Didn’t know either that he was a talented artist, possibly a tribute to his father, humor, joy of presence of a clown, jokester. He was special, once in a lifetime entertainer. He may have been related to me through my maternal great grandmother Ruth Skelton, who may've been his older sister. The story goes that the parents of my great grandma both died and the kids were separated and sent off to live in different foster homes, so they lost contact with each other. My g-grandma was one of I think 8 siblings. John (?) Skelton, called Red b/c of his red hair, was the youngest -- just a young boy at the time the parents died. My great grandma died in 1955 at age 83 (which means she was born in 1872 or so) but Red would've been a lot younger. The famed Red Skelton was born in 1913. Seems unlikely he could've been her younger brother but who knows? My gramma tried to contact him to verify if he was related but never got a response from him. In 1989, I was on a ferry crossing from Ontario to New York and literally almost ran into a man I instantly believed was Red. He was not smiling -- he seemed angry or distressed actually -- so it was hard to tell! But I knew him instantly -- which is pretty weird since I'm almost completely face blind. He also recognized me, I could tell. He stopped for an instant to look at my face and then we both moved past. I was carrying my second daughter (who was a few months old) in my arms. When I say I knew him -- I knew he was Red Skelton but I also recognized him as a relative right away. He looked like a family member to me. That's in contrast to seeing him on TV. I never felt that way when I saw him on TV. Apparently, it really could've been him on the ferry because Red had just done his very last live performance in Toronto, I later learned.

Sad, yet true. Red Skelton like most comics or clowns (Emmett Kelly) came across funny and made millions laugh, but inside led a sad life personally!

First heard him on radio in 1940 s then later on TV , great entertainment!😇🙋‍♂️

Life long fan. Loved his true comedy.

Red skeleton touched the lives of the whole world in one way or the other. He put a smile upon the face of this world that will never disappear.

He also had a fine career as a movie star and made some great films.

I have The Best Of Red Skelton on DVD. Some people didn't realize that Red Skelton was also a Shriner....... enjoying entertaining children and folks.

Yes1 Loved his show.

Had a chance to see him live at our county fair. His show was fantastic especially the Guzzler's Gin sketch. He was in his seventies then but wouldn't have known it by his physical comedy. I grew up watching Red on our small black and white TV. I will never forget that live performance.

@@FactsVerse My wife and I can not recall the exact year. Best we can come up with is August in the middle to late 80s. Will have to call the Berrien County Youth Fair office. Curious now.

Okay, we are getting old and our memories must be failing. It was 1982when Red performed at the BCYF according to fair personnel.

I remember it from my childhood. Things like the smother brothers I was allowed to watch.
