My hometown. Always in the shadows of the Bay Area, but quite an underrated city thats growing fast. Although small, i love our skyline. Very unique skyscrapers and just added 2 more (Natural Resources Tower topped out in 2021 at 344 ft & Sacramento Superior Courthouse this year 2022 at 330ft). Downtown & Mid town adding a lot of vibrant business & mid rise apartments and condos too (too expensive though)
The Sacramento Mall is the epitome of Capitol Malls, absolutely stunningly simple yet beautiful.

Sacramento really is a beautiful city.. and it's growing due to Bay area Residents migrating to the metro..
I love a good skyline but I think it’s cool to see U.S cities that break away from the standard high rise CBD surrounded by low sprawl. I like seeing different ways cites can add unique buildings and places of interest

As much as I love skylines, I do agree with you. One of my favorite cities is Madison, Wisconsin which is very unique among US cities in regards to its skyline (or lack thereof). On average though, I typically prefer a skyline with a few skyscrapers 🏙

Columbus OH metro is smaller but ColumBus feels a lot larger. Indianapolis, Jacksonville and Charlotte too. Sac punches below its weight
@FirstHillSeattle
Жыл бұрын
I don't know that I agree with that. Sacramento has some big city amenities that Columbus does not, which in my opinion makes it feel like more of a "real city"....things like light rail and an NBA team, as well as lots of life downtown. Columbus feels a bit "manufactured" to me, like a Mister Rogers neighborhood of a big city. Which isn't all bad, but to me Sac seems more like a vibrant city overall.
This taught me so much. This is amazing!
Which one has a bigger skyline/downtown, Oklahoma City or Indianapolis?
@CityGeek
2 жыл бұрын
Great question! They are actually really comparable in size. They both have 3 buildings tall enough to be considered skyscrapers, but OKC has the tallest building (844 ft) and is slightly taller if you average the height of the tallest five buildings.
@kylea.185
Жыл бұрын
Well I used to live in OKC and I always considered downtown OKC rather disappointing I have been to Indianapolis although it was years ago and I would guess Indianapolis has a better skyline and downtown. Until recently OKC downtown was rather vacant almost abandoned in the last 20 years it's really experienced a transformation and businesses and residents are starting to utilize downtown OKC
Fun fact: Sacramento has an amazing drag/lgbtqia+ scene! A place that supports all people ❤
as a native of Sacramento, it can get really boring here. Not to mention the traffic is terrible, and even getting to SF is difficult because of traffic. Heading up to Tahoe get boring too, LOL! I mean, seriously, you can only go to the same restaurants so many times! additionally, many of the creatives in the downtown area were forced out due to rising costs, so now it is fully of breweries (how much beer can people drink before it just gets old) and a watered down local music scene that features nothing but bro bands, sigh. Also, it used to be the 'City of Trees' before they changed it to the 'Farm to fork' and will often hold a boujee farm to fork dinner for rich people, blah.

moved here from LA and I agree heavily on the traffic here. LA has terrible traffic too but you can get around in about 20-30 minutes. In Sacramento, it can take up to a damn 40-55 minutes. THE LIGHTS take forever because they are all designated left turns. LA you had to yield for left turns but it was faster saving you 2-3 minutes. I find that if you don't have hobbies then it can get boring here. But I like to stay home, play videogames, and watch movies so it's not too bad. its quite similar to LA but just without amusement parks like Disney and Universal. But those are so heavily priced and packed to the brim now it's not worth it.

You think skyscrapers are what makes a city?
@CityGeek
2 жыл бұрын
No but they’re one of my favorite parts of a city 🏙
Personally, I don't care about skylines. Sometimes, it's that there are no skylines that makes a city great! Why ruin a city's beauty with too many skyscrapers??? Perhaps you don't know this, but there is a law that no older buildings (built before a certain year), can be torn down and must be marked historic. So, this is why there are not as many ugly skyscrapers. They have a much deeper and greater respect for their history!
@jdos5643

For me I love skylines. It shows the improvements and advancements in society. It’s grand and gives shade and it looks nice day and night. Especially night if they decide to light up the buildings with leds and shows.

Peeps from the actual major CA cities (SF, LA, SD, etc) do not think of Sac as the "capital" of CA.
Lol
It's not cool there's too many trees in Sacramento
I Left Sac after 20 years and can confidently say how bad its gotten in so many ways. Affordability is awful, Air Pollution much of the year is just terrible, traffic is brutal, homeless problem is third world levels, parks and recreational areas are totally riddled with bums and drugs, gang violence is rampant, restaurant scene is really weak, atrocious schools, pestilence especially in W Sac was disgusting, fires constantly greying out the skies, poor policing, and on and on. I watched how far and how fast it went down in just the last five years and had to go, left Cali and it was the best thing i could have done. California is sinking faster than a iron ingot and wont change. Gonna need a lot more lipstick for that Pig.
