Sacbé - Selva Tucanera (1978)

Музыка

Yesterday, I took you on an Attila Zoller marathon. Today, we're diving into the vibrant and eclectic world of Sacbé. Given the enthusiastic reception of their debut album last week, I thought you’d all appreciate more from this phenomenal band. "Selva Tucanera," released in 1978, is a testament to Sacbé's unique fusion of jazz, Latin, and fusion elements, creating a sound that is both innovative and deeply rooted in their Mexican heritage.
The Toussaint brothers-Eugenio on electric piano and synthesizer, Enrique on electric bass, and Fernando on drums and percussion-form the backbone of Sacbé. Their synergy is palpable, driving the album with intricate rhythms and lush harmonies. Joining them is saxophonist Alejandro Campos, whose alto and soprano saxophones add a melodic flair that soars above the rhythmic tapestry. This album also features an expanded horn section and guest percussionist Daniel Benitez, enriching the sound with vibrant textures and a dynamic big-band feel, especially evident on the track "Haiti."
"Selva Tucanera" is not just an album; it's an auditory journey through the tropical landscapes it’s named after. From the bustling energy of "Los Camiones De Medelin" to the serene beauty of "Agua De Arrecife," each track paints a vivid picture. The album’s use of the ARP 2600 synthesizer, a hallmark of the era’s jazz fusion, adds a modern edge to their sound, reminiscent of influences like Weather Report. Despite being an independent production, Sacbé’s "Selva Tucanera" transcended borders, finding its way into international markets and solidifying the band’s place in the global jazz scene.
