    It's hilarious this show basically predicted Pumpkin Spice Coffee. This show ran until 2003, and in 2003 Starbucks first introduced Pumpkin Spice flavored coffees. Granted ... pumpkin spice doesn't taste like pumpkin, it tastes like the spice you put into pumpkin pies ... sort of.

    I have no idea why Salem thought it was a good idea to ask Sabrina to ask Josh to give her cat a ride to the graveyard. What kind of boss in the mortal realm takes an employee's cat to the graveyard?

    Josh wouldn't have spoken to the health department? Then he wasn't going to last long no matter what. 0:33 I remembered this quote for about 20 years, from the time this first aired to the time I decided to re-watch this show. That's because this confused me even when I was a kid. Josh thought Sabrina actually caught that like a regular person? And why did he think Sabrina could pour that well when she just said that she couldn't? I've been thinking about the answers for over 2 decades and I still don't have them. 1:40 Um, the witches council will turn you into a doormat if you reveal yourself as a talking cat to a mortal. Granted, we're talking about a mortal who can't detect a witch no matter how many hints that she gives, but I think a talking cat might make him suspicious. Starbucks actually makes a kind of coffee similar to that, but I think they only started doing that after this episode was made. Little did Josh and Sabrina know what was going to happen. Those "Ooohs" that you hear are warnings to Sabrina that she cannot avoid Halloween because she is a witch. She ignored the warnings. Therefore, a bunch of zombies broke into the coffee house and turned it into a dance club. She got rid of them with Harvey and Brad's help but she didn't have time to clean up the coffee house even with magic. Fortunately, Josh is nice and he forgave her. Aside from a final scene with Salem in his coffin/"New litterbox" this episode ends with Sabrina telling Dreama that she has a crush on Josh. That becomes a recurring thing for the next 3 seasons. I like Josh. He's a nice guy. Hilda buys the coffee house in season 5 but Josh was clearly a better manager than she was. Obviously, Hilda and Zelda leaving the show was more than enough to ruin it, but a 3rd thing that added to the trainwreck that was season 7 was Josh leaving the show. He was supposed to be an important part of season 7. He was supposed to be the guy whom Sabrina ditches at the altar. But the actor left the show, so they had to introduce another boyfriend in season 7, rush him and Sabrina into planning a wedding, and have her ditch HIM at the altar. Yeah, that wasn't very believable.

    I'd like to address some of your questions... I think the way the magic works is that mortals can't see it, so if it happened too quickly for his eyes to catch or his brain to process then he would think she caught it; that doesn't explain how the mugs stayed upright or the napkin stayed on the tray. Salem was just joking about having Josh drive him to the graveyard and I think also teasing Sabrina who he probably suspected of already having a crush on Josh, which she admits to later in the episode if I remember rightly. The pumpkin drink from Starbucks may have been inspired by this episode since the show came first. I didn't know that about Josh being the one she was supposed to abandon, that would've been so much better. Although that would've been heartbreaking because I, too, liked Josh, they could've written in a hint of a rekindled relationship between him and Morgan so at least we'd know he was okay in the end. Aaron really rubbed me the wrong way, maybe it was just because we didn't have enough time to get to know him or it was his acting, but I couldn't get behind the character. Harvey was also in that season scarcely so throwing in that they're actually soulmates felt forced and rushed without a proper build-up to that moment during the season. The whole last season just needs to be rewritten to give the show the send-off it deserved.

    Is there where Sabrina started trying to copy Friends, with the coffee shop? I remember Melissa Joan Hart saying, in her _What Women Binge_ KZread thing, about how she looked up to Friends.

    Well a lot of coffee shops around that time were like that. Starbucks included. Not sure if it started with Friends or Friends got the inspiration from actual coffee shops. Starbucks started in the 70s, and other coffee chains from northern California to Oregon to Washington State that started in the 80s and 90s very much had this aesthetic. Independent coffee shops did too. It was a pretty standard place setting for college town coffee shops.

    Why did all 90s coffee houses have a couch?

  • @danmur2797

    @danmur2797

    2 ай бұрын

    I think the real question is why don't coffee houses today have a couch? I remember the late 90s when my local Starbucks attached to Barnes and Noble had couches and sofa chairs and it was a homey laid back environment. I could go there to read, or just kill a few minutes in a relaxed environment before the movie we wanted to see at the theater next door would start. Even their pastries were a step above what they have today. Today most Starbucks seem to be emulating McDonald's and Burger King dining rooms more everyday. (Starbucks also didn't have drive thrus back then). Granted not all coffee shops were like that, but many independent ones were. You can still find some independent artisinal coffee shops like that today, but they are fewer and niche, usually in college towns or upscale areas only. Some boba shops/coffee venues seem to be attempting a similar route.

    @@danmur2797 Can confirm on the 'college towns' thing yeah. If I've found any comfy coffee shops outside of them they usually are a combination with a book store or ice cream parlor or some other kind of place that serves food you don't need a table for. I absolutely miss this aesthetic since it's what made ME want to open and run a coffee shop when I was younger.
