The sheer evil nature of Sharon, Eitan, Yaron, Drori etc is scary. How could u seal off a camp, allow a group that was hell bent on revenge and provide flares for a potential massacre???? This is really sad.

The Phalange were already notorious mass murderers and participated before in several massacres where they killed thousands of Palestinians and Muslims like in the Black Saturday, Karantina and Tel el Zaatar massacres. All this under Israeli military arms support and training since the early 70s

Tel Al Zaatar was a siege not a massacre . The Palestinians camps were armed. Also lets not forget that Arafat told his fighters to keep on fighting and at certain points bombed his own people for more martyrs.

@@thejmenahistorian5584 the Phalange were not angels but lets be real, they was not the only mass murderers in that area during that period. one of the leading members who led the phalange soldiers to that camp family was murdered in a massacre including his fiancé so they were driven by revenge. the PLO created a state inside a state, disrupting Lebanese laws, they have done the same thing in Jordan prier till king Hussien had enough and kicked them out, hence why they moved to Lebanon. if we are to be unbiased both sides are responsible for the worst crimes against humanity. as for israel's involvement, it is undeniable, israel did arm south Lebanese, christian and muslim alike. even syria was allied with the phalange as some point. the Lebanese civil war is one of the most complex civil war, where friends and foes was not distinctly clear. but the PLO was at the Centre of the civil war.

@@animalworld5296"No Angels" indeed. Even though they (Kataeb Party / Phalange) were pardoned by Lebanon..... If still the descendants of those (Palestinian) refugees can take revenge (just like Operation Wrath of God) on those (ex) Christian militia people (there were some women in that militia) today?

“It was Sharon who conceived of the war plan, behind which lay the idea of a comprehensive change in the Middle East: Israel would conquer southern Lebanon, join up with the Maronites in Beirut, and kick the PLO and the Syrians out. The leader of the Christian Phalange Party, Bashir Jemayel, would be installed as the ruler of Lebanon. Then-Sharon hoped-the expelled Palestinians would take over Jordan, set up their state there replacing King Hussein’s Hashemite monarchy, and give up their dream of establishing it in the West Bank.” (Chapter 4, p. 74) Bergman

wow there is alot bs in that claim, first the PLO has tried that in jordan already that is till Hussien kicked them out , israel has being very clear about where they stand with the king of jordan he was the best they had in the arab world, second israel does not have to do anything to put a christian leader to power, Lebanon law is clear, the President has to be christian, the prime minister muslim so that is that and the west bank during this times it wasstill inhabited by Palastinian, Israel has not yet started vast settlement.

The bottom line is that this unbelievable massacre, and probably the most shocking massacre in the modern era, was entirely and purely committed by LEBANESE hands of LEBANESE people who lived and grew up in LEBANON. For me this is the most shocking thing about the massacre. Stop blaming Sharon, I guess he would be an angel if compared to those monsters who entered the camps and slaughtered unarmed older men, women and children.

Sharon and Israel funded, armed and trained the Phalange since the early 70s and they executed numerous massacres with thousands of deaths before Sabra and Shatila. The only difference in 1982 was that Israeli troops were actively supporting the massacre on the ground and blockading any entrance outside the camps. And actually there are way worse massacres in the modern era than Sabra and Shatila. Not to diminish what happened
