Saber vs Conocer in Spanish: understand the difference in 4 minutes
Learn the difference between "saber" and "conocer". They both mean "to know" in English - as in, "I know her" or "Yes, I know." But in Spanish, they're used in different situations.
This is Episode 1 of Spanish in 5 Minutes or Less, where I explain a word, concept, or expression in Spanish that will help you speak more naturally.
The best way to learn the difference between the two isn't by memorizing. It's by building an intuitive sense of the two words, just like kids do. That's exactly what you'll do in this quick Spanish lesson: I give you "saber" and "conocer" in context, and you try to work out why you use one versus the other.

I think I've been stuck in the box of thinking that conocer is mostly for people or places (like your Conozco a Juan example). Think I picked that up from high school Spanish and never evolved it. The difference between "Se tocar la guitarra" and "Conozco la canción" helps me understand how to use these verbs a bit more fluently

Thanks, Connor, this was helpful! I happen to have just finished a lesson on this in Rocket Spanish, but your 5 minute video put it in a more memorable nugget for me. Ahora sé usar saber o conocer!

This vid literally made me go ohhhhhh out loud
Thank you I found this video very helpful and loved all examples! Here are what i came up with. Conozco muchas cosas pero no sé cómo entrenar a otros.
I just heard in a different video for Spanish speakers explaining the difference between “meet” and “know” an example “conoces las reglas” or, “you know the rules.” I’m assuming this is another manner in which conocer can be used?
