Here's an interesting tidbit. The image in the background of the program schedule is a combination of two images from the CASCOM Select Effects library that many independent TV networks and regional affiliates used in their promos a long time ago. It reminds me of Showtime's old logo for some reason.

1:04 This was the logo of the North American channel "Showtime", which in turn was a copy of the TV Globo logo from here in Brazil.

4:05. It looks that the SABC 1976 logo was retained at that moment.

Love the synthesized music of that era! And the general technological optimism as evidenced by the computery font in the program menu.

Wonderful recording!! Thanks a lot. I find curious how TV1 was English by day and Afrikaans by night.

They alternated. One day would be afrikaans prime time and the next English prime time

Hang on a minute the SABC/SAUK indent logo was a bit different to this one in the 80s. The stripes were thinner, with colours blue, orange white and brown and the SABC/SAUK logos were top left and bottom right.

The logo on the background (The one presented during the station sign-on/opening) is too similar to Globo Television's logo.

Thanks for posting this. The language split was entirely equitable with English and Afrikaans with the early/ late slots alternating day by day. South Africa in the 1980’s was the best country in the world. Today is a a corrupt shambolic mess.

Just like in many parts of the world back then, TV broadcasts in mid 80s always began at noon The concept of morning TV shows were pretty much foreign.
