======= The Price Af A Mile LYRICS =======
Hear the sound of a machinegun
Hear it echo in the night
Mortals firing rains the scene
Scars the fields
that once were green
It’s a stalemate at the frontline
where the soldiers rest in mud
roads and houses
all is gone
there is no glory to be won
know that many men will suffer
know that many men will die
half a million lives at stake
Ask the fields of Passchendaele
And as the night falls the general calls
and the battle carries on and on
How long?
What is the purpose of it all
What’s the price of a mile?
Thousands of feet march to the beat
It’s an army on the march
Long way from home
Paying the price in young men’s lives
Thousands of feet march to the beat
It’s an army in despair
Knee-deep in mud
Stuck in the trench with no way out
Thousands of machineguns
Kept on firing through the night
Mortars blazed and wrecked the scene
Guns in the fields that once were green
Still a deadlock at the frontline
Where the soldiers die in mud
roads and houses since long gone
still no glory has been won
know that many men has suffered
know that many men has died
Six miles of ground has been won
Half a million men are gone
And as the men crawled the general called
And the killing carried on and on
How long?
What’s the purpose of it all?
What’s the price of a mile?
Thousands of feet march to the beat
It’s an army on the march
Long way from home
Paying the price in young men’s lives
Thousands of feet march to the beat
It’s an army in despair
Knee-deep in mud
Stuck in the trench with no way out
Young men are dying
They pay the price
Oh how they suffer
So tell me what’s the price of a mile
That’s the price of a mile.
Thousands of feet march to the beat
It’s an army on the march
Long way from home
Paying the price in young men’s lives
Thousands of feet march to the beat
It’s an army in despair
Knee-deep in mud
Stuck in the trench with no way out

Much too underrated song, awesome performance! you don't know how much I enjoy your music and I see you guys as my idols and as an inspiration for me to make a musician out of myself too... (and for learning swedish :D) I found you in 2012 when a friend showed me the Carolus Rex album, which came out a few days ago then. I was instantly hooked by the historical themed and melodic Songs. That was the moment where I really got into metal. Before that I just listened to Metallica, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden here and then without really caring about the metal scene itself. Now, six years later you are still my favorite Band of all time and I'm so glad that you exist and still make awesome songs. On your next Germany Tour I will come to one of your gigs, I promise that :D I just wanted to say that once, it came to my mind while watching your Swedish Empire Tour Blu-Ray. Exactly a week ago I was there myself, Passchendaele, Ypres, all of it. Always loved this song, but since walking there, experiencing so nearby what happened there, hearing all the stories, this song put me to tears. The endless amount of graveyards in the region, the way how til this day, the German graveyards are sober while the allied graveyards are significantly cared better for. Some graveyard even called through speakers the name and age of every solder buried there, over 50.000 men. Young men, boys, 17 years old, on both sides, sent to their deaths. The frowns of people whey they see Germans visiting the allied graveyards, even though these people cannot help their ancestry, and even their ancestors, most of them could not help or want the situation. These men who fought there, all of them were victims, regardless what side they had to fight for. Seeing this song in a new light now. Very emotional.

Sabaton has taught me so much about history it's insane. Even though my history classes in 10th grade aren't about Lauri Alan Törni, or Alvin York or anyone really notable in World War I and II, I still have an great understanding of those wars that really shows in my writing and testing. Thank you Sabaton!

I hadn't heard of Sabaton before and they were one of two bands playing before Nightwish a few years ago in Charlotte, NC. I was hooked from the beginning of their set and the hook just got deeper as their set went on. Looking back, I was so lucky to experience them live and it be my first experience too. I remember a guy had brought his Grandfather's medal to give to them because his grandfather was a huge Sabaton fan. Joakim talked about it while they were on stage and it was so cool to see them being so appreciative of such a personal gift.

Hear the sound of a machine gun Hear it echo in the night Mortals firing rains the scene Scars the fields That once were green It's a stalemate at the front line Where the soldiers rest in mud Roads and houses All is gone There is no glory to be won know that many men will suffer Know that many men will die Half a million lives at stake Ask the fields of Passchendaele And as the night falls the general calls And the battle carries on and on How long? What is the purpose of it all What's the price of a mile? Thousands of feet march to the beat It's an army on the march Long way from home Paying the price in young men's lives Thousands of feet march to the beat It's an army in despair Knee-deep in mud Stuck in the trench with no way out Thousands of machineguns Kept on firing through the night Mortars blazed and wrecked the scene Guns in the fields that once were green Still a deadlock at the front line Where the soldiers die in mud Roads and houses since long gone Still no glory has been won Know that many men has suffered Know that many men has died Six miles of ground has been won Half a million men are gone And as the men crawled the general called And the killing carried on and on How long? What's the purpose of it all? What's the price of a mile? Thousands of feet march to the beat It's an army on the march Long way from home Paying the price in young men's lives Thousands of feet march to the beat It's an army in despair Knee-deep in mud Stuck in the trench with no way out Young men are dying They pay the price Oh how they suffer So tell me what's the price of a mile That's the price of a mile. Thousands of feet march to the beat It's an army on the march Long way from home Paying the price in young men's lives Thousands of feet march to the beat It's an army in despair Knee-deep in mud Stuck in the trench with no way out...
