Imagine having to go through all this trauma, and then there’s like 55 bullets coming at you every second, and your soaked in blood in a miserable trench, and then there’s shell shock, it’s just amazing how some people actually survived the trenches and my respect goes out to all of them.

People can survive the trauma and pain, but a part of themselves was lost somewhere amidst the chaos. I've met war veterans who march for miles every night searching for lost comrades; respond to any kind of loud sound as if there's a bombing going on outside; And in the morning, there are old soldiers taking up flags and running around the nursing home's yard, because they think it's victory day. The war may be long gone to younger generations, but for some of those who were there and made it through: the war is still raging on, and it will continue to torment them for the rest of their lives. To think that these soldiers used to be lively and carefree like us in our youth, it's just sad.

@@anhphan152 And yet not one of the unfathomably rich people guilty of inciting these sorts of 'conflicts' ever approaches harms way nor do they even need to see the actual price of it nor face any consequence. It's merely another stroke of a pen or a phone call for them. And the rich get richer while the common man pays for it all, with everything he has, in the very literal sense.

My great-great grandfather served in the Coldstream Guards during the battle of Somme. He and another soldier went out into No Mans Land to rescue a wounded mate, they were both killed, the wounded soldier made it back to the line on his own. My great-great grandmother refused to believe he was gone, use to sit out on her back porch at night waiting. The wounded soldier visited her, and advised her what had happened.

When those tanks first showed up in the West, what could a soldier do but fire at it? This was a doctrine change, a major major changing point in war. Those men who faced those first tanks would have always rembered it, the same for the brave men inside going into the enemy lines like that, it was a guarenteed death sentence as you would get stuck or resistance would take you out eventually. Brave fuckin kids, brave.men and they knew what they were getting into.

"Величие" связано с "Силой" или "Мощью". А Война уже точно является проявлением "Мощи". Поэтому люди и любят смотреть на то как "Хорошие" побеждают "Плохих" в батальных сценах. Люди подсознательно "уважают и бояться" "Силу" и пытаются к ней "примазаться".

While historical significance of that war cannot be overstated I can help but to notice how much inspiration Imperial Guard from Warhammer 40k takes from this. Not only Krieg formations being French and Germans of the time fused together with some sci-fi touches, but also tank that is featured in this video - huge tank with additional guns on it's sides is pretty much how most of Imperial and even Astartes tanks looks (from standard Leman Russ to massive Land Raider).

Germans very fast learned that simple canon can deasable or destroy tank. MarkI was very big, very slow target. And honestly Greate War chemical warfare, airplanes, zeppelines and you affraid some slow chunk of metal? I can belive that in 1916 during Somma everyone shitthemself when saw MarkI, but in 1918? disregarding the grammar in this i understand where you're coming at but still the fear factor of seeing a metal wall with three machine guns while you're standing there with your five shot bolt action rifle. @@prasaite compared to nowadays you see a tank and you're just like ''okay.'' And at least there was gas masks and anti-air but all of that came in 1918. World War 1 was almost the evolution of modern warfare. During the first weeks of World War I most armies were still using *napoleonic styles of fighting.* take for example the French who literally had bright red and blue uniforms that got them absolutely annihilated because of no camouflage.

Weird to think about/see being a German soldier, and all of a sudden seeing a new type of war machine, like a tank coming from the distance. Terrible also, the tactic of shooting flame-throwers into the enemy trench. It makes you understand how brutal ww1 was. When soldiers advanced, it was still impossible to see green ahead. Just miles of gray, dirt, and death. In some ways ww1 was much more dangerous than a ww2 battlefield.
