Hai salam damai...just want to ask here coz i know you're the pro about borneo song and may be good in dancing tradition...my question here is, can i use this song of Maggunatip song as a simple sumazau dance without trying to play the things that you do the dance using bamboo things?

  • @ZeTus58

Hi! I'm far from being a pro, but by my experience Maggunatip has a very different rythm comparing to Sumazau or Toggunggak, for example. It's fast and strong, while Sumazau and Toggunggak are gentle and slow, which is linked in some ways to tribes dances has originated from. Maggunatip is from the Murut tribe, and they were hunters-warriors, so the rythm is more fast and violent. So, of course, bamboos are a part of Maggunatip, they make its rythm very fast, but it can be played without them. In the piece I posted they weren't used because bamboos is very difficult to record in high quality. So, yeah, you can in my opinion!

Hi There! @ZeTus58 My name is Fariza, and I am a Sabahan Children's books author. I will be publishing my hard copies during Kaamatan this year. As a bonus, I would like to include a link to an audio reading, in which I want to use some of the audio in this video as background. Please advise me on how to address the rightful owners of this beautiful piece of music so I can credit it appropriately. Thanks and regards, Fariza

Hi! Unfortunately, I can't help: I bought the CD with the music in this video at a Sabahan market in 2015. The CD had no markings, its case as well. When I searched through the Web, it appeared this music was not published anywhere. Since then I couldn't find any additional information about the copyright holders, except the fact that the seller at the market mentioned Era Budaya Papar when we talked. But from my knowledge, they never recorded any music, they only perform it live.
