SAAB 9-3 ABS module repair Fixed DTC U0212

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I fixed the SAAB ABS module with DTC U0212, no Tech2 required.
2008 SAAB 9-3 Aero 2.8L V6 6 speed auto
Part numbers of the module are at the end of the video
I am not a mechanic, I am only showing you how I fixed my problem. Do not try this unless you understand the consequences, you could damage the ABS module and be stranded.
The first thing to check if you have this problem is the Battery, SAABs are very sensitive to weak batteries. I replaced mine a week before this video but the fault came straight back.
Happy SAABing!

On a 9--3 V6 2008 you can pull R8 relay in the engine fuse box and wire 30 and 87 to start the car as long as you can get the ignition on! I get this occasional problem off not cranking when the car gets hot in the engine bay, never when it cold. So I'm currently waiting for this problem to reappear and then I will pull apart the ABS module to effect this repair. FYI the ICM goes via the ABS to the ECU before it will try to start the car and they are all married, so this make the car had to steal! Hence you need a GM Tech2 to marry parts when they fail and cannot be repaired! Hang in there, there is a logical path to resolve this! Thanks DC Engineering for posting this🙂

Okay I had this problem yesterday, no start. I tried the fuse box R8 and wire 30 and 87 and it would crank but not start! I tried to take the ABS module connector off and couldn't due to Maptune strut bar. However after fiddling with the connector it started 👍 So, now I'm removing the ABS Electronic module. On RHD V6 its easier if you take out the battery box, torx 40 screws (3) and undo the auxiliary fuse boxes. Good time to check earths under the box. You take the 10mm bolts(2) out of the bracket that hold the ABS module in place, the Torx 15 screws(4) are fiddle to remove. 1/4 ratchet drive will do the top two and you can start the unwind/crack the bottom ones. You don't need much as its only a couple turns to release them from Hydraulic ABS case. I have small hands and could turn the Torx 15 by my fingers. The ABS separated easily with just a small flick of a screw driver towards the bottom. Off to a friend's electrical engineering business to refurb the solder connections, also need neutral cure sealant to put the electronic side back together and 3mm O ring cord to put the hydraulic and electronic side together! will post results.

This worked for me as well! Having a right hand drive car did make getting the ECU off the ABS more difficult. I removed the battery and battery box. I also cracked the brake booster vacuum line in the process, that I had to repair.

Hi, turbos are cool! After watching your video I now have the courage to fix my abs module on my 2000 Saab 9-5 Aero. I bought the Aero with the Christmas lights and no working speedometer or odometer. Recently swapped out Abs module from a 2003 Aero and now speedometer and odometer work as well as break pedal feels a lot more solid! Oh and my turbo spools up nicely too with full boost!! It would only boost halfway before. What is the name of your soldering tool? Can I get one from Amazon? Thanks again for the awesome vid! Cheers 🍻

Hi Lawrence, I used a short torx driver bit with a 1/4” spanner to turn it. Yes it’s very tight and tricky but easier than removing the entire ABS assembly

Were you getting any error messages on the dashboard? Mine always says "Traction Control Failure" and then it dies on the spot. My (former) Saab dealership mechanic is having a really tough time figuring out what's going on with my car. He thought it was the ABS module. He didn't have an ABS module for a 4-cylinder so he temporarily put one on for a 6-cylinder. It worked like a charm for about 5 days and then it died yesterday while driving. This is so frustrating. I know nothing about cars so I have to use a mechanic to work on it.

I see that you only soldered one line of connectors. Is that all I need to do ? You also mentioned checking for dry connection. How did you do that ? Did you use standard soldering tool or did you use something special for electronic circuit board. Did this fix the issues completely or did it ever come back ?

Mr. Turbo, I resoldered all the through hole connections, it may look like only one row but I think I sped up the video to make it shorter. I used a standard hobby grade soldering station and standard Lead solder. This repair was made about 3 years ago and I haven’t had one problem yet (apart from coil problems, but that’s another video coming soon)

Thanks for posting this video; this would have been more helpful with a bit of more detail. Especially, how did you manage to open the 4 torque screws in that tight space without removing the battery and the ABS Pump ? How did you manage to put the module back in without bending the pin/connector that goes into the Module slot at the bottom ? How did you figure what connections are to be re-soldered ? I had removed the ABS Module and sent it to BBA Reman and they returned to me without any clear indication either they cannot fix it or the module is faulty or not. They refused to give me the findings of their tests on the unit. Any ideas to share ?

Abdul Samad thanks for your comments. I noticed when editing that I had missed the 4 torx screws, I used a short torx driver in a 1/4” socket with a small ratchet handle it was quite fiddly but I didn’t have to remove the battery or any of the break lines. When the two bolts holding down the module are removed it can lift up and slide over towards the engine just enough to allow the electronics module to be removed and put back in. I inspected all the solder joints but could not see any that were dry or bad, I was really taking a guess at this point, I resoldered all the connector pins and so far it is working perfectly.

I suspect the same on mine. I resoldered the abs module and am concerned I got some of the gasket maker on the coil. I button it all up and still no start however that could be because I didn't add brake fluid. I had to remove the whole assembly to get the module out.

Overall this was"generally" helpful, but not"specifically" helpful. Right Hand drive cars have A LOT more room next to the ABS module than LH drive models. Would be better to show and list the size of the torx head driver. Hoping I can even get it out at all.

  • @jerryduffey1118

On LH drive, the brake master cylinder is next to the ABS module. Proper removal would be to remove the battery and the battery box first.
