S3 EP3. Psychics and Zodiac Signs

Hey y’all ! Welcome to another Friday with CWCOI ! In this week’s episode our host, Ally Yost, continues the boldness that the Lord has given season 3 as she talks on the topic of psychics, zodiac signs, card readings, etc. Ally has felt such an urgency to debunk all of that and share why we absolutely cannot entertain those things when we are walking with Jesus. The Bible literally tells us how dangerous it can be to dabble in those things and so we have to ask for the discernment to identify and rebuke them so that we can freely walk in the light of Jesus.

I am so glad you were vulnerable and honest about your story because it’s super relatable! I think we can all relate to trying to “hold on” to something not of God and justify it in a sense all while ignoring the truth that it isn’t good for us and needs to go. It’s also easy to compare our spiritual lives with others, for example, I know several Christian’s that I would consider super “strong” Christian’s, that celebrate Halloween, and I’ve felt a personal conviction not to anymore (which is super hard when you have a 3&4 year old, it’s not even about myself as an adult, it’s about explaining to them why we aren’t trick or treating etc) and I’ve found myself comparing my life to others, like “my pastor let’s his kids do this or that or celebrate this or that” but I have to follow the leading and discernment of the Holy Spirit, NOT follow other humans!

Discernment is definitely key, there’s a specific type of incense that is biblical and was used as worship and part of sacrificing to God. I’m an Ethiopian orthodox Christian and the priests use it as part of the service but it’s frankincense. As I’ve read through the bible A LOT of witchcraft is simply biblical things used to worship and commune with God and twisted for the enemy. Which is no surprise as that is the foundation of the enemy’s knowledge

THANK FOR SHARING YOUR POV!! Incense is definitely Biblical and can be used in a ways to glorify God. Nonetheless, the Holy Spirt convicts people differently so I understand that as well. The smell of incense is too strong for my liking so I prefer candles. Regardless, it's so important to do all things to the glory of God as 1 Cor 10:31 says.

“In the Bible, incense is often associated with worship and prayer. It was used in the Old Testament as part of the sacrificial system and in the tabernacle and temple rituals. The burning of incense symbolized the prayers of the people rising up to God as a pleasing aroma. - **Psalm 141:2 (NIV)**: "May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice." This verse from Psalms illustrates the connection between incense and prayer, highlighting the desire for our prayers to be pleasing to God. While the specific use of incense in worship may vary among Christian traditions today, the symbolic significance of incense as a representation of prayer and worship remains a powerful reminder of our communication with God.”

In addition to Psalm 141:2, there are several other scriptures in the Bible that mention incense: 1. **Exodus 30:34-38 (NIV)**: These verses describe the specific instructions given by God to Moses regarding the composition of the sacred incense to be used in the tabernacle. 2. **Revelation 8:3-4 (NIV)**: In this passage, incense is associated with the prayers of God's people in heaven, symbolizing the prayers of the saints rising before God. 3. **Luke 1:9-10 (NIV)**: This passage describes the story of Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist, who was chosen by lot to enter the temple of the Lord and burn incense while the people prayed outside. These verses highlight the significance of incense in the worship practices of the Old Testament and its symbolic representation of prayer and worship in the New Testament.

Exodus 30 also says ”Never use this formula to make this incense for yourselves. It is reserved for the Lord, and you must treat it as holy. Anyone who makes incense like this for personal use will be cut off from the community.” ‭‭ I’m totally not implying that we’re still held to that standard and I’m still trying to read and learn about all of it myself, but Jesus’ death/resurrection tore the veil and the Law has been fulfilled. It is no longer necessary to burn incense to approach God. There’s a specific formula God told them to use in the Old Testament ONLY in the tabernacle and after Jesus came it was no longer necessary. I do get your point, but even back then it was forbidden outside of the tabernacle.

@@reaghanblakeand to add on top of that it was only the priests that were allowed to enter inside the tabernacle to place the incense on the altar for it to burn and be the connection between the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies as it would rise and fall over the veil onto the Mercy seat. Additionally, if I remember correctly, the incense was to only burn from coals taken from the fire that God created at the Brazen Altar and all other strange fire was forbidden to be used… so between “strange” fire and the use by the priests it may be implied that it’s off limits otherwise since there were such detailed instructions for the operation of the Tabernacle.

Hey, so was just reading exodus! Earlier I did comment how I thought I saw this in Leviticus or Numbers, but I actually read about it in exodus when they were talking about creating the arc of the covenant, and all that was to be in the tent of meeting. There is an alter for incense that was made as well as oils and the spices used to create the incense. Now with that being said, I still agree with the incense that were in your home. I think the things made now are really harmful to our health and maybe that’s why you were being convicted, idk, I don’t much like incense sticks either, and I do feel the psalm on our prayers rising like incense is a beat of a weak argument for it. lol! But it is still there in the Bible, and I still love everything your saying ally, so don’t be mad. lol! I’m just curious what your response to this would be?

The Israelite priests used incense on a special alter at the separation curtain from the most holy place. Later Jesus offers fervent prayers “like incense “ because God enjoys our prayers as we would enjoy nice smelling incense. The lie about incense now is that it’s “necessary“ for prayers when in fact our prayers are LIKE incense to God. Prayers bring him an enjoyable aroma. It was only meant to be symbolic

The crystals I think really need a deep dive bc diamonds are technically crystals so do we not use any ever , cause my grandma has a few beautiful large amethyst clusters and I’m pretty sure she only has them because they are beautiful and add beauty to her house , so does just owning amethyst or quarts because they are beautiful on their own the same as buying them to use for witchcraft and are they bringing in demons just because they are in my house on a shelve ?

such a good episode with so much to learn but i do think it’s important to acknowledge that there is nothing innately wrong with incense itself. i’m not sure what to make of this information but i do think it is important to consider when thinking about this topic: Incense has been employed in worship by Christians since antiquity, particularly in the Roman Catholic Church/Eastern Catholic Church, Orthodox Christian churches, Lutheran Churches, Old Catholic/Liberal Catholic Churches and some Anglican Churches. Incense is being increasingly used among some other Christian groups as well; for example, the Book of Worship of The United Methodist Church calls for incense in the Evening Praise and Prayer service. The smoke of burning incense is interpreted by both the Western Catholic and Eastern Christian churches as a symbol of the prayer of the faithful rising to heaven. This symbolism is seen in Psalm 141:2: "Let my prayer be directed as incense in thy sight: the lifting up of my hands, as evening sacrifice." Also in the Revelation of John, incense symbolises the prayers of the saints in heaven - the "golden bowl full of incense" are "the prayers of the saints" (Revelation 5:8, cf. Revelation 8:3) which infuse upwards towards the altar of God. In the Eastern Orthodox Church, Anglo-Catholic, and Old Catholic/Liberal Catholic churches, incense is used at virtually every service. (sourced from wikipedia) Therefore to claim that incense is not biblical doesn’t necessarily seem to be 100% the case. but i’m not sure what exactly to conclude from this, as personal convictions are important. i definitely think in this day and age incense has been repurposed for practises involving witchcraft and therefore i can understand the concerns. but i also think it’s important to acknowledge there is no demonic qualities innate to the incense itself per say, and it has been used in church history and still in some churches today.

I remember you said you haven’t read the whole Old Testament. I think your perspective on incense will evolve when you have read that, and recall the book of Revelation, and start to learn about how incense was used in the early church, and is still used in Orthodox Churches today. We often use Frankincense and Myrrh, which you will remember from the gifts in the Gospels.

I've been changing what I watch and things I listen to for the past few months and it's been a life change like even down to what you wear as well. But hopefully this helps and spend time in the secret place with God and ask him what he thinks you should eliminate from your wardrobe or anything else in your life, it's not always specifically clothes but sometimes it can be. I agree about sage because it’s a Native American practice but incense is biblical. The priests burned incense in the temple where the Holy of Holies dwell, the book of Revelation speaks of bowls of incense in heaven. So I don’t think incense in and of itself is bad. But if it was causing a sister to stumble, you were absolutely right to put it out. ETA: Absolutely go with what the Spirit is convicting you about though. If you’re convicted by the Spirit, then to continue is sin for you. If the Lord convicts me, I’d absolutely throw it away in an instant. My house smelling good isn’t worth my relationship with God. Personally, currently, I have peace but I’m open to the Spirit leading me differently.

Friend, all of what you are referring to was in the OT times. The genuine believers of today live under the new covenant which is Jesus Christ and belief in Him. He is far superior to the Levitical system. As He is the High Priest forever after the order of Melchisedec. A right relationship with Him should be the focus and not something as meaningless as incense.

@@BrianAnderson82 The focus of my worship is absolutely Jesus Christ and I 100% agree that He is above all things and so as I said, if He called me to give up incense because He took exception with me burning it in my home as an air freshener, then I absolutely would. I do not however feel personal conviction that there’s anything wrong with it as I’m not using it as part of worship. It merely is a fragrance I enjoy scenting my home with. If someone else feels differently in their conscience, I certainly would never try to force or convince anyone to use anything they’re not comfortable with and if someone in my home took exception, as a sister-in-Christ not wanting to cause anyone else to stumble I’d have zero issues extinguishing it. But I do 100% agree that we need nothing else in worship or any other “tools” or anything other than the Word of God and a relationship with God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit. By Grace through Faith in Jesus is the one and only way.

Ally, we love you! There are so many scriptures where the Israelites used incense, even in heaven. Exodus 30:7-8, God instructs the Israelites how he wants the tabernacle’s alter for sacrifices. It says, “And Aaron shall burn fragrant incense on it. Every morning when he dresses the lamps he shall burn it, and when Aaron sets up the lamps at twilight, he shall burn it, a regular incense offering before the Lord throughout your generations.” The Lord is beautiful & He likes things that smell nice. But Satan comes and perverts everything. So someone who used incense to glorify Satan, would be triggered. But God created incense.

You’re crazy, just because someone burns incense in their home does not mean they are dabbling in something evil. Just because they burn incense in their home does not mean they are idolizing anything. I guess maybe we shouldn’t burn candles either??? And there is nothing wrong with being in a cemetery and talking to the dead there’s nothing wrong with that. My family we love cemeteries we go to the cemeteries and see the beautiful tombstones, honor Those people that have passed and we say the date every time because whether you want to believe it or not there are spirits. that have not passed over yet. They may be dealing with something here that they’re just not ready to let go. There’s nothing evil with that. It’s just what it is. And telling those spirits, the date is not evil. I’m doing nothing evil. When I go and sit at my grandmother‘s grave and talk to her, I’m not doing anything evil. I just miss my grandmother and I wanna talk to her. Maybe you need to do just a little bit more research and stop making people feel like they’re doing something wrong when they’re not. Jesus is my savior. He is my Lord and he is my father and I am not doing anything evil by burning incense in my home to make it smell good. I’m not idolizing anything when I do so. And I’m definitely not trying to raise the dead or do anything evil when I speak to those in a cemetery. And if it was wrong, God would make sure that I felt that it was and I have not once felt that. I thought I would give your podcast a try But after listening to this one, I won’t be listening again. You are spreading false truths mixed with real truth. And that’s just as bad as spreading all false truth.

There’s nothing wrong with incense ❤ Satan perverts what the Lord has created to make us feel like it’s Satanic. Read in your word for yourself, Sister Revelation 8:4 ESV And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, rose before God from the hand of the angel. Luke 1:9 ESV According to the custom of the priesthood, he was chosen by lot to enter the temple of the Lord and burn incense. Leviticus 4:7 ESV (God instructs the Israelites regarding the alter of sacrifices) “And the priest shall put some of the blood on the horns of the altar of fragrant incense before the Lord that is in the tent of meeting, and all the rest of the blood of the bull he shall pour out at the base of the altar of burnt offering that is at the entrance of the tent of meeting.” Also, be very careful about what you teach, beloved Sister. Really ask the Lord about the accuracy of everything. Teachers are judged more harshly ❤ James 3:1 ESV Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.
