Hearing that opening reminds me of Conan O’Briens opening after the Vegas shooting. He talks about how when he got to work, he was fine until he realised that his head writer had a file for him containing everything he’d said about previous mass shootings to review. And his heart broke as he asked the public watching “When did it become the norm for a late night comedy show to have an actual file about mass shootings, and no one blinks an eye?”

I had no idea how many amazing jokes that I was missing out on by only watching the show on KZread for the last 11 years.

I doubt retirement will still be a thing when I am old. If it is it will be unaffordable to the average person. There is already hundreds of stories of people being pulled from retirement now cause they can't afford the cost of living. I still have over 3 decades till I'm at retirement age. And thats assuming we haven't blown our selves up.

I love how when this episode first aired, I was a university student not giving a shit about finances And now rewatching it, I'm like, "Hmmm yeah okay time to start Googling on how to throw money into bonds I guess"

The opening statement echoes of his former boss, John Stewart's first episode of The Daily Show after the September 11th attacks. Very memorable especially his last thoughts when he spoke about the view outside of his office window was of the twin towers, and that now, it was the Statue of Liberty.

ill be honest, I was right wing back in 2016, ( never was right wing on anything social politics wise, which is part of why I had a hard swap from right to left) and I remember hating John jsut because he was left, not for anything else. it saddens me that i sided with such an awful side and contributed to where we are. I wa spurely sold on the " drain the swamp" while opposing the establishment dem that is Hillary. I was sold on hitting the reset button in government and honestly the rage bait stuff and "owning the libs" and realing against the bleeding heart, that was appealing to me in my early 20's. now i've spent my years in the covid era actually learning about policy and actual reasons to support a side. and I find myself very very left. I hope we can beat trump again. We have a lot of work to do.
