Hes doing a good job in the vids. But more is needed. that will only sit the motor in the vehicle securely. And others need to know if it's a ls swap you need the computer for the ls and the wiring harness. Beyond that depending on trans set up mods are needed to fit trans. Depending on application drive shaft may need to be shortened. Radiator needs to be moved forward for proper clearance and/or to give you more room and helps with cooling. Select the right rear gear. Most opt to go to 9 inch etc. Or what ever preferred. Next ask yourself are you back halving the truck? If so are you narrowing the frame as well? (Dont have to narrow but might as well do so for more tire) they make kits now where you do not have to cut the bed BUT YOU WILL HAVE TO WIDEN REAR FENDER WELLS IF NARROWING. And others things to consider as well but it is about preference and what your wanting to achieve in your build and it's intended application. Otherwise just hit the ole like button for the guy. Hes not steering anyone wrong hes still learning himself.

Hooker does make long tube headers but they are slip together ones. They worked really well on my 1983 GMC S-15 Jimmy. Ran 12:30's in the quarter in Texas heat. You have a good start with those parts.

Hey kiddo I'm glad you posted this . I'm a first time S10 owner I have a 99 model with a 4 cylinder in it and well even when you get the squirrels fed properly and pointed in the same direction and if they're feeling good it is still dismal how long it takes to get up to speed and that's without a boat behind your truck. Nothing would make it run better than say a 6 l vortec after you install a cam hop up the computer about 700 horsepower you don't even have to unload the boat at the lake if you do it properly it'll just jerk the trailer out from underneath it. LOL

Pst bushings and a complete camaro brake master cylinder hooked up to a hydroboost out of a 92 astro (bitch to pull out at the wrecker) hooked up to ls1 brakes and a 8.8 with ford 9 axle shafts. Also, you might have some trouble with that distributor if it's not a short cap.

  • @Dumbass_mechanic

You have it backwards, the motor mounts bolt to the frame and the plates bolt to the engine, when you put it in bolt them up to where they're tight but you can still move them and then tighten them once the engine is in the chassis. Not only can you use those headers, but if you dont want to use headers and want manifolds for more of a factory setup you can use third gen Camaro manifolds, it's been awhile since I did one but I think you have to mill about .010 off of the driver's side so it will clear the steering shaft. Use a relay with the fan switch and dont wire it up directly or you will have some charging issues where the fan will act as an alternator when its turned off and air hits it. If you're using a 90 to 93 grill setup use flex a lite double fan setup in between the grill and the radiator. They have ones meant for a vw scirocco that fit perfectly, wire them up backwards so they will push air through the radiator and not pull it out the front of the truck. Make brackets for the top of the radiator so that it tips forward and tucks into the core support. All of that will give you much more comfortable room at the front of the engine. Back in about 1997 I had a 1991 2wd s10 I bought in 1995. It had the 4.3 in it and the new process 5 speed manual transmission. After launching 3rd gear from the trans 3 different times and then spinning 3-4 red bearing in the motor I ended up pulling the powertrain out. Down the street there was a guy junking a 1976 Chevy 1 ton dump truck with a small block 400 in it. I talked him into bringing it down to my house, let me pull the motor and then have the yard come get it from my house. I rebuilt the 400 into a short block. I went to the yard and found a 1991 1 ton van with a vortec 5.7 with throttle body injection. I talked to the owner of the yard and told him I was in school studying to be a mechanic and gave him a sob story about how we don't have any money.... he said I could pull whatever I wanted off the van and just dont make a mess. I pulled the heads, intake, wiring harness, distributor, and all the tbi components. I also took the computer. I ended up using the computer from the 4.3 and the prom from the 350. Using the van parts I ended up with a tbi injected 400 small block in an s10. Then I went back to the yard and found a wrecked Camaro, I got the Borg Warner t5 and bell housing and the exhaust manifolds from the Camaro. I ended up with a 5 speed TBI 400 small block s10 that pretty much looked factory. Also if you want to lower the truck use some g body knuckles, other than the location of the spindle on the knuckle that are identical as is the rest of the suspension, it's mostly a a/g body chassis with leaf springs in back and set up for an f body motor.

I have a 1988 red S10 that my dad bought brand spanking new in 88. Its been babied its whole life. I had it repainted 3 years ago and it looks like a brand new truck. No dents, no rust, no anything. Theres not a nicer one around anywhere. But I had the 2.5 Iron Duke 4 cylinder rebuilt to keep it all original. But I been thinking about a v8 swap but it kinda scares me. I dont wanna give up the original 5 speed stick and apparently it cant handle a v8?? At least thats wha im told. Im also told the original rear end cant hold up as well. I just dont know if its worth the trouble

s10v8.com has full length headers for the s10, look for item number 69490. Designed to fit 1982-97 2WD S10, S15, and Jimmy trucks with small block Chevys. Full-length headers. But unless you are putting in more than 450hp you are fine with the shorty headers. You need to wrap the headers unless they are ceramic. The 800 degrees coming off them will kill your battery, alternator, and horse power.

Rant from a fed up S-10 owner: I have a '96 S10 extended cab with the Vortec 4.3 and a sissy-o-matic. I have begun to consider my options for a V-8 swap. Someone as girly as I am usually won't even care, but I have just about had it up to here * motions to brow * with the bull the Vortec has given me. Frikkin asinine "Spider" injector setup, loads of sensors and other prone-to-fail electronics. (and yes I DO work on my own truck) Then that transmission... Oh my GAWD! The "training wheels for people who wont bother to learn how to drive" transmission MUST GO! I can't f-ing stand an automatic. All an automatic is good for is keeping a hand free for twits and twats to hold their cellphones with.. So I want to swap in one of three engine options: A 350, a 305 or a 262 (4.3) But NO FUEL INJECTION! I want a trusty, simple, reliable carburetor. No asinine bs with tree-humper stuff either. Dual exhaust consisting of headers. pipes and glasspacks. THAT'S IT! No O2 sensors, No cats, no air pumps. Just some tubes for the spent fuel-mixture to exit the vehicle, with some slight resemblance of mild silencing.. Period. All the OBD crap... OUTTA' THERE!! I'm sick of having to play computer tech/electrician when something goes a little out of whack. I want to just whip out a screwdriver and tweak a mixture screw instead. Git that electrical trash gone! Electric fuel-pump? Fine, I can live with that. HEI? Sure, can do. But the spaghetti monster amalgamation of tubes and wires all tangled up in the engine bay will be history. The transmission: A 5-speed manual. If there is an electrical connector on the transmission, NOPE! It's gears. Steel, Iron and oil do not require electricity! A mechanical speedometer will do just fine. I'd prefer a direct-linkage clutch, but I can live with a hydraulic one. I love my truck, and I have always loved S-10's in general.. But.. The endless stress and hassle and headaches of all the Vortec nonsense with it's computer center idiocy is driving me completely insane. Every damn thing I have to service, I have to unplug first! I mean there are seriously frikking wires plugged into the gawdamn air intake! Not the TPS or IAC, but ahead of the throttle valve in the rubber hose. A damn MAF.. Get out! I'M DONE! The only electronics I honestly want are Lights, horn, ignition module and a stereo. Everything else can bugger off. Gimme a Edelbrock or a Holley, an MSD and a K&N to keep the dirt out. I was clearly born 40 years too late. Thanks for the vid, man. And best of luck on your swap.

I have a 94 bravada. It should pretty much bolt up with these parts you will need the 2.8 motor motor mounts which the the V8 mounts connect to. And you don’t need to change the computer with a carb. I have the digital dash and it still works no need to change the gages. I recommend not doing a TBI or CPI injection setup because I’ve herd there a pain!

I have a mint 87 S10 blazer, 4X4, 2.8 V6. 62K original garage kept senior citizen miles. Interior looks like it was Never sat in. Under the hood looks like it is still on the showroom floor, Original 2 tone blue paint. The 2.8 runs perfect but it is a slug. The wife's 4cyl Hyundai is like a HP V8 compared to a riding mower in the S10 with the 2.8. I am looking for someone to do an engine swap for me that won't booger it up. I just want it to run like a normal late model compact SUV. If there is anybody that reads this that is capable and wants to do a reasonable swap for me (I am retired and disabled on a fixed income), I was thinking possibly a new current (junk yard) 310 HP Silverado 4 cyl turbo or a late model 4.3 Silverado drive train. I know the trans will also need to be swapped because the 2.8 is a different bolt pattern than most of the engines I am thinking of.

Trans mount is the same, you have to use a 4.3 / v8 bellhousing if you're manual and a v8 bolt pattern trans if you're automatic. Hence you can run a stock 4.3 driveshaft. Battery can stay in the factory location.
