    Hi, Mark. I am now living in Manchester England, and I am Indonesian. I have two kids, and I take them to school in the morning and collect them in the afternoon. I would like to share my experience that while collecting our kids, parents are allowed to get in the main gate, and all children are in queue with their teacher. To get our kids, parents stand in front of their kids line, and then the teachers will let kids out if they see their parents. So, teachers do not allow children to get out of the line if they do not identify the moms or dads. If we are not the parents of kids, for example another guardian of kids, we have to use password that we got from office.

    That's very interesting! Thanks for sharing your experience about your children's school - it sounds like they are much more careful and responsible than my schools were! 😅 Maybe it's because my schools were on the outskirts of the town and in quiet areas, so perhaps things were a bit more "relaxed" out there. Thanks again for sharing your story and for watching us too :)

    ok, musiałem sprawdzić co znaczy wyrażenie : head home . Dobrze, że są napisy, bo dzieki nim rozumiem 85%, to o czym mówicie, z samego słuchania zrozumiałbym około 20%. Edit.. ok, I had to check what the expression : head home means. It's good that there are subtitles, because thanks to them I understand 85% of what you are talking about, I would understand about 20% just by listening

    I really appreciate your videos.Thank you!❤🎉 When I studied at school (in Russia we study during 10 years) English teachers used to call us pupils in the meaning of students. I've learnt recently that this word means 'an apple of one's eye'. I was so surprised! The dictionary says that the word 'a pupil' was used for 'a student' in notariate or in economy . I've found out that there is no such meaning now in the US since 1950 but it still exists in the UK. Could you tell me if it is true, teachers?

  • @highlevellistening

    @highlevellistening

    3 ай бұрын

    Hello! You're right that "pupil" has 2 meanings. It depends on the context. In a classroom at school, you can use "students" or "pupils" or even "children" if they are younger. - The teacher talks to her students. - The teacher talks to her pupils. At an eye-doctor, the doctor will look at your pupils. The very small black dot in the centre of your eye. Or when people are very sick or injured, their pupils "dilate" or get bigger. So it all depends on the context. I also think you hear both of these words in the US and the UK still, but perhaps less often in the US. I hope that helps!
