S&W M&P Shield Plus - Nice But...

Hello and welcome. Not long ago I noticed that I had not reviewed the ‪@SmithAndWessonInc‬ M&P Shield Plus. So I purchased one. In today's video we take a first look and towards the end I compare it to my daily carry. Will it become my new carry gun? Let's take a look.

Try the Shield Plus Performance Center. Basically the same gun but with better trigger and a ported barrel. Shoots like a dream. Might be the best carry gun out there. And...you can get 15 round magazines for it. Super concealable...EXCELLENT carry gun.

I bought my shield plus as soon as they hit the market. It has been my carry gun for about 3 years now. My shield's trigger has a smooth take up (no grinding sound), light wall, crisp break- easily under 4 pounds. I was at range recently, a man had a brand new shield plus and talking about how awful the trigger was. The optic screws holding the cover plate on were stripped from the factory and the trigger was bad. Heavy, gritty, and the reset was so long. I don't know what happened to S&W in over the past few years, but I think they forgot how to make a good pistol. QC seems to be all over the place.

So you subjectively based your opinion of the out of the box Shield Plus on a ported Glock with an aftermarket trigger and mag release. Really? Compare it to a stock Glock with its spongy trigger and mag release that you can barely articulate out of the box. And porting thats a whole other story!

The 4” is the best IMO. So slimline yet still boasting a full 4” barrel. Best of the Micro compacts certainly. I run the 40 S&W 4” 2.0 non Plus with a 4.25” extended and ported 357 Sig barrel and it’s so sweet. So much power out of an ultra slim concealable setup. With 125gr Underwood ammo I’m netting over 600 ft/lbs of energy. With a Magguts spring it’s only a 8+1 but I wouldn’t give it up for anything for this type of application. I like the rubber sleeve on the grip for a more comfortable grip and bonus recoil absorption. It’s ridiculously accurate. I have the optic ready Performance Center version. What an amazing setup.

I was sure that I clicked on the M&P video but rather got just another Glock comparison video.

The original shield was my first semi auto and I wasn't very accurate with it. When I moved out of one of the communist New England states that I was living in to the southeast and no longer was restricted by that state's magazine capacity laws, I purchased the shield plus and have found that I shoot it very good, much better than the original shield and it is my edc choice when I do carry a semi auto. I normally carry a snubbie revolver because of my lifestyle (I work from home and I am home or out and about in my neighborhood the majority of the time), but when out in public the shield plus is with me. I agree with you on the slide release it is very difficult to engage, that's probably the only complaint I have with it.

My M&P 10mm won't feed with any mag or any of the 5 factory ammo types I've tried; despite having been back to the factory TWIICE. The magazine also falls out of the bottom while shooting. S&W Customer service refuses to exchange it. I never thought I'd live to see the day that Ketech makes more reliable guns than S&W.

I have the performance center shield…the trigger needs some help….but it has never failed to fire in over 1000 rounds…that’s why I like it.

I have several Glock 19s, but have never held a S&W striker-fired pistol. I found it interesting to compare your experience with the Shield Plus and your carry Glock, to hrfunk's experience with the Glock pistol and his S&W pistols. If interested, see his KZread videos ``Why I Don't Prefer the Glock Pistol'' and ``Why I Prefer the S&W Pistol''.

So, I love the Shields in general... I'm not a 9 mm guy, but I did carry a Shield Plus for a while, until I got my Shield 45. I now alternate the M&P 45 & 40 versions as EDC.

It’s really a nice gun,for small hands with good hand grip. Spent almost 1500 rounds, still working good, I add a Houge grip Handle it’s just good. It doesn’t matter how many clicks when you pull the trigger as long as you hit the target ,I’m good with that,Just my opinion. But your vlog is nice, good job,Thank you Sir,👍👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏

Well said! I hope you are feeling better. I can relate: I still have one of the original Shields, but seldom shoot it. I haven't carried it in years. There's nothing wrong with it or its newer versions, including the Shield Plus. I just never warmed up to losing the added grip length that I prefer, when changing mags.

That was still pretty nice shooting for that distance. Nice honest review as always. I like my shield plus. For some reason, the shield series just fits my hand perfectly and I can shoot it very accurately right out of the box like my shield 45. I have a Hellcat but I just don't shoot it as accurately.

I made my Shields into Subcompacts. I Bought a 3 5/8 inch Treaded Barrel for my 9mm Shield Plus from True Precision, A Hogue Grip. Also have a 9mm Shield with Trigger upgrade, New Adjustable Sites. and a 3 5/8 inch Faxon Barrel. Also a Hogue Grip. I bought the Shield a month before buying a Shield Plus. Great Stability and Accuracy. Shooting 12 ounces hanging Beer cans 20 yards easy and 40 yards Body size Targets. Reliability No Change. No Optic Cuts, Anyway I am Very happy with them.

I have the S&W M&P 40 and I love the way it shoots and the trigger is fine for me. I also purchased the 9mm performance center ported and it's all ❤❤❤. The way you feel about this trigger is the way I feel the same on other brands, models as well. If it dosen't fit you must acquit.

I have the same thing on my trigger. I thought it would get better over time. Decided to change to the apex trigger. Otherwise, I love this gun. I am very accurate with it.
