Fantasie by Sylvius Leopold Weiss. Recorded on the 14th of August 2019 in Novo Celje Mansion, Slovenia.
Novo Celje is a late Baroque mansion that was built between 1752 and 1755 by a local nobleman, Anton Gaisruck. This ranks it among the most important monuments of the profane Baroque architecture in the territory of Slovenia. In the 1930s it was transformed into a mental hospital and now it serves as a place for art exhibitions and events.
It was my longtime wish to bring this very dear place back to its golden times and what could be a better choice than Sylvius Leopold Weiss (1687 - 1750). He was one of the most important and most prolific composers of lute music in history and one of the best-known and most technically accomplished lutenists of his time.
This recording is the first out of six, that I am about to publish in the course of the next two months.
