'쎈돌' 이세돌, 국산 AI 한돌 상대로 첫 승..."이번에도 78수"
Threee years ago, Lee Se-dol, one of the most celebrated baduk player in the world, became the only human to beat an AI in an historic match, although he lost the series.
To mark his retirement, the Korean master took part in another man versus machine challenge, going up against an AI called HanDol, developed here in the nation.

Once again, it was the 78th stone that Korean Go master Lee Se-dol put down to beat an AI program.
Just like in 2016, when Lee earned his only win over Google's AlphaGo in a five-game series,... this time, the 36-year old took down the Korean-developed AI software HanDol with the 78th stone.
"Unlike the 'abnormal' move that practically took down AlphaGo, this 78th stone against HanDol was a very reasonable decision. I was surprised that the AI couldn't think of it."
Perhaps it was a very reasonable move for Lee Se-dol,... but commentators and experts were shocked by his decision,... calling it "a move no one could have thought of."
From there, HanDol was shaken up and kept making irrational moves,... eventually resigning at the 92nd turn.
"Today's result gave me goosebumps. I think Lee Se-dol is THAT great. Before Lee's 78th stone,... Handol's winning probability was high but after Lee's move in the 79th turn, it dropped."
Although Lee started Wednesday's match with two extra stones on the board to offset HanDol’s superiority, ...most experts expected him to lose.
Earlier this year, Handol took on five of Korea’s top Go players ...including then-world champion Park Jung-hwan, and beat them all in a relay match... whereas Lee Se-dol has not played an official match since July.
But the 18-time world champion eventually prevailed.
"Because the South Korean Go master won Wednesday's game,... Thursday's match will begin without any handicap stones.
Saturday's final showdown will then move to Jeollanam-do Province where Lee was born.
