This is the greatest judgement from the supreme court since 1999 ! Any Gov that does otherwise against local govts must must be impeached or president should declare State of emergency in such state Bcous all these Govs need iron hands

Good one . I like the news . Thank you the court
This is long-awaited and long-overdue.It is an anathema to the 1999 Constitution even though a bad document with conflicts for governors to turn LG's to their appendages. Congrats Nigeria.
Great fantastic super news. Well done supreme Court
Best judgements of the year
In Nigeria, we know what is good and what we want but those in power are completely detached from the people
A step towards the right direction
One will like to assume that this judgement only favours the local governments recognized by the constitution and not the additional ones created by the state governments.
Very good judgement. Any LG Chairman that is not duly elected or that is handpicked by the governor will have its allocations withheld. This judgement will make it easier for us to hold our LG Chairmen accountable.
This is great news for our local government. It's time the community began to hold the local government accountable and ensure transparency, rather than gross misconduct of our resources in violation of their oaths of allegiance.
A new birth of democracy in Nigeria, NGF are weakened now . congratulations to us Nigerians.
Hallelujah. Nigeria is getting better.

when we make our local government important, that is is the beginning of any country. even strong compound steel must first start with 1 atom of iron, you cannot build a house without molding blocks.
I am happy of this order,i can wait for this to be actualising 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Having delivered this welcoming judgement, I hereby asked who will oversee local government ares election and which arm of government resources will be used for the election now? I hereby submit that only one electoral body should be established in Nigeria to conduct federal, states and LGAs election in Nigeria .
This is Good
The next stage of this LGA autonomy is for INEC to conduct LGA elections. With that, the state’ SIEC will be dissolved paving way for true autonomy to the 3rd tier of govt.
The major problem in Nigeria is accountability, if measures are not put in place to check how funds are managed then this judgement will be futile. LG chairmen will become richer while communities become poorer. If we fix accountability then Nigeria will be great again regardless of who handles funds.
Who will conduct the LGA elections 🤔?

Very good over the local government funs, and now what's the conditions of the states without local chairmen ie Imo State local government 🤔🤔🤔

Any State without a proper elected LG Chairmen will have its allocations withheld.
The judgement is good but sad one if the federal government continues bundle everything under exclusive list. Federal allocation alone can't take local government anywhere as some local government areas have less to generate
If all the 774 LGAs commit just N5 million to agriculture monthly, that is approximately N3.8 BILLION, (approximately N45 BILLION a year)....just imagine how much maize, corn, yam, cassava, rice, etc that money can produce yearly....Congratulations Nigeria.
What about the legitimacy of the LG? The states INEC or States Electoral Commission are still under the State Governors influence which would still conduct the LG elections nationwide which are always manipulated by the state Governors or the political in power at the state level. So indirectly this ruling by the Supreme Court would still not solve the issue with the LG autonomy! If Governors and the ruling political parties pick the candidates for LG chairmen, they would be bound to follow the Governors instructions even with respect to finances! So I think the solution is that main INEC at the federal should be conducting LG elections which the state governors will not be able to influence and this means that National Assembly would have to amend the electoral act. This also means that we still have a long way to go and this is not the end of this matter so the National Assembly still have big role to play to bring a lasting solution to this LG automomy case If not we are still deceiving ourselves and the Supreme Court judgements would more or less won't be effective and will not achieve the intended goals and objectives in the long run

Political parties can as well take the rest to the supreme court themselves The FG has done its own bit,the rest is left for the LG chairman and political parties.

The judgement says that any LG Chairman that is not duly elected or that is handpicked by the governor of his/her state will have its allocations withheld.
Why do I feel that Wike is cooking something 🤔
But the should also look into the election process. National electoral commission should be in charge of the Local government election and not State electoral commission
If local council does thier job , not much remains for the governor, is a new done
Great!!! Delivered from the strong hold of governors. #state police and local government police now #governors and chairpersons must be responsible for the security of Nigerian citizens now #ban open grazing now #referendum now
Good move
Bravo
No one is talking about how the LGAs should function so we don't see monies meant for development disappearing into private pockets. They should be made to understand that embezzlements within that level would be tantamount to asking for war.
Nice judgement
Hope the funds get used judiciously
Interesting
GOD BLESS OUR BELOVED PRESIDENT TINUBU ..GOD BLESS NIGERIA ..POWER TO THE PEOPLE ..WE MOVE
Mr Rufai kindly stop slouching please. Thank you Sir.
Let inec also conduct LGA elections
Nothing will change, the people will not get development or benefit. The local government chairmen will soon become lord onto themselves. It is more food for the political class.
Congratulations Nigeria. For the first time, LGAs will be able to hire local hunters and informants to improve local security, they will be able to fix leaking roofs, dilapidated doors and windows in primary and secondary schools, they will be able to operate a small clinic with may be 2 or 3 nurses that can treat simple malaria, fever, headache....👏😆🤣
congratulation

They have finally come to their senses. Funny people
A good move in a good direction. However i am yet to see any judgement by the apex court that will be contrary to Tinubu views. Perhaps he influenced this one which is correct and right anyways.
The disadvantage of this judgment is that the local government chairman will also abuse the privilege given to them
@kissprecious

Try and also be looking at the bright sides in issues.....not always the negative sides. If your own LG chairman is continuously misbehaving, the entire town or city should hold him/her accountable
Tinubu will fix Nigeria. This judgement is a watershed in the political evolution of Nigeria. You will now see LG chairman confront their governors now. Even those appointed by those governors. Nigeria finally in a safe hand.

Is Rivers state and Fubara the only governor in Nigeria out of 732 or local governments the Supreme court has just ruled in their favours? 2. Did Fubara dissolve any local government whose 3 years terms have not expired? You must have your head examined for mental disorder. The Supreme court ruling will bring more developments to all local governments in Nigerua if each local government chairmen and executives do not misuse the funds.
