Bad Charger Port - Modify and install a new EZGO Port # 602529
5/10/2024
I had to replace my Charger Port. When the Port is bad or removed, the mower will not “start”, move, or mow. And of course, difficult to charge.
The Ryobi charger port is hard to find, and there are at least two different ports used on the Ryobi 48v mowers. Ryobi Parts apparently does not supply the port any longer. Ideally, I think I need a Ryobi Port # 316265001.
But, most of the websites that list the Ryobi port, note that it is discontinued, back-ordered, or unavailable. I did order the only one I could find on Ebay, but it may not come with the plastic housing!
And, I also ordered an EZ GO port # 602529 that looked similar to mine, as a backup plan. And it was similar, I guess. With “some” modification, The EZGO port does work great. I needed to modify the plastic mounting plate and transfer one connector from the old port (solder two wires).
5/13/2024 update:
The Ryobi Port # 316265001 did arrive today. It is the Ryobi port without phillips screws, and included the integrated mounting plate. It's a perfectly good port, but not the "port" pictured in the listing. It also didn't come in a Ryobi/Homelite box, so I can't be sure if the p/n matches the part.

I’ve had a lot of trouble with my conversion and was wondering if you could help me out. I changed the batteries and nothing else. It worked the first time but after that just a click from the relay on the frame on the rear right side. I didn’t change the gauge. And I charge it by disconnecting the main battery connector. Like I said worked a few times but now just a click. After the click the batteries drop to 3volts and I triple checked the connections. Could not having the gauge with the shunt be my issue. I’m $1000 in and no one near me works on these things. Any suggestions?

I haven't had an issue since my swap. But, I've heard and seen something similar. You'll hear the solenoid click(on), and immediately click again (off). It almost sounds like one click, but it's two. I am not an electrical expert, so some of this may be nonsense. A possible issue is a voltage/amp surge at the initial key on is causing the battery BMS to trip and protect the batteries? ...Presuming there are capacitors that need to be charged up on the mower. One thing to try after the initial "start", is to immediately unplug and replug the battery pack. That may be enough to reset the battery before the capacitors(?) lose charge. There is a precharge kit that you can try. A guy sells them thru FaceBook. Check his KZread videos (below). The principle(?) is to use a resistor to slow the initial surge, for a few seconds, then switch to full power. kzread.info/dash/bejne/nIJ5qcqhmJbKfdI.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/lo2tqcGwgZbgl6w.html Let me know if either works.

Any idea what exactly killed his charging port? Looking to do the battery conversion and want to avoid the pitfalls.

The charging port was cooked by using the modified charging plug. If you use the unmodified charger plug, as purchased, your port should be OK. Jesse and some others have had an issue with "starting"; the mower will not power up, unless you unplug and plug the battery pack in. Or you need to start the mower with the charger plugged in. This appears to me related to a voltage/amp surge. It can possibly be corrected by using a "soft start" or "pre-charge" circuit. My Lithium conversion did not require either, and I have not had a issue for over a year. So, the Lithium conversion is not without risk, but I believe many, many have done it.

Rob Would just swapping the male plugs from the chargers work?

Either plug should work on my port (the port with the three Phillips screws).

I have not yet done any modifications. Could you please let me know what changes I should make to avoid charging port meltdown? Do I need to buy different charger along with ezcharge port? Thanks regards. Ben.

The unmodified HDRC3648 should still be OK and safe.

Ok, that was fantastic . So you still have the same recommendation for charger and its plug wire soldered from red to the third empty terminal to achieve the green light 🤔? Or did you remove that small soldered wire from the inside of plug. Please clarify. Thanks regards. Ben.

My charger still has the "green light" jumper modification. (The green light turns on when the charger is plugged in, and the mower is disabled.) I had to remove that video because the green light jumper will burn down some charger ports. So, I can't recommend the green light jumper mod.
