This would be fine for enhancements....maybe one steps. Anything beyond that I could not recommend this polisher.

I had this polisher and it was terrible for corrections got a griots garage g9 and that blew it out of the water. I would recommend people to save up for the dewalt DA or milwaukee if you want quality cordless corrections.

Difficulty I have is having previously broken a mid thumb joint are those awful top switches, much prefer trigger soft starts. In particular the ShineMate is the only dedicated 3" I've found with a proper trigger similar to 5" polishers. For those with an injury who prefer trigger control as oppose to lock and free running, for me the SM range is the only interchangable cordless units out there.

@@13pcbs I agree that's my only complaint with the g9 I also have a g8 to go with it and it's so good. But it seems like griots polishers at least the newer ones have cheap triggers. The milwaukee m18 rotary has a really good trigger.

Another great review Brian. I noticed the backing plate already had heat damage right in the middle opposite the spindle. That coupled with the heat reading you got off of the motor, I would have too pass on this one. The ergonomics are not good and the absence of a soft start outweigh the attractive price point.

I’ve owned this polisher for over a year and quickly realised its not for heavy correction work. I now only use it as the final stage or a quick once over polish. The larger 5amp battery will complete a full car in my experience. Great and honest review thanks. 👍🏼

Thanks for taking the time to review this, Brian. I have been considering this very polisher. I already have some Ryobi tools, batteries and a couple of chargers. The lightness of the unit sounds appealing, also would be nice to ditch the cord which my current Simoniz polisher has. Think this would work well for my needs (hobbyist, light enhancements and minimize love marks on my own vehicles). Think I might just go for it come spring. Appreciate you taking the time to make this review.

I only use this to bring gloss after my final step or final wax. Very good price. It is very light. I use gloss pads. I bought two more batteries. Not for correction.

I like the size and weight of the polisher but it needs more power to get my money. The heat build up is also a big concern. Thank you as always for the video.

Hey Brian, what do you think of using this polisher with a 3 inch backing plate for smaller areas where a micro polisher would be too small?

I picked one of these up last week because of the price. Yeah same here, weak on lower speeds but fine above 4k and got very warm even after grease swap. I got for laying/removing wax. I already have chargers/batts otherwise I would’ve recommend. Very lite and strong enough for lite duty work. The pads included were even very decent. Keep up the good work love the videos.

I’ve been using this polisher about 6 months. Stalls easily unless running full speed. Requires large batteries 4Ah or5 Ah for good productivity. I’m still a fan of corded machines.

I’ll stick with my DeWalt polisher. Besides being a fan boy of their power tools, I have many high amp batteries. I’m just a weekend warrior with my wife’s Ford Ecosport (small) and my Ford F-350 4X4. So it works for me. I spend my money on quality products. My summer project is doing a frame restoration of my F350. Prepping for the POR-15 paint I feel is very important & time consuming! So once I put the truck back together a 2 step process will complete the project. Thanks Brian for another great informative video!

I have been using it for a couple years. I'm deep in the ryobi brand anyway. 20 plus batteries. I Manly use it for motorcycles and light enhancement. I do wish the battery was sideways but been good thus far .

What are your thoughts about this vs a flex?

One important difference is the throw - the SPTA has a 15mm throw, vs 8mm for the Ryobi. If I had to guess, that would make the SPTA superior

Wow the dewalt is a brute compared to the ryobi I’d still go with the dewalt

This can be had open box or lightly used for $100. I say its a no brainer IF you have ryobi batteries already.

Brian, I'm a "home gamer" with both corded Griots polishers (G8 and G9). I'm a tool guy first and a car detail guy second. I'm currently bought into Dewalt and Milwaukee lines. My question is, does this lower throw polisher actually have a place in your professional setting? I'm very much on the fence about the Milwaukee battery unit, the dewalt seems too bulky for me. I'm just curious if from a professional standpoint you see a use for these polishers with a shorter throw as opposed to reaching for something with a longer throw? If so, when would you opt to go that direction and why?

I have the same two Griots polishers. Just ordered the Milwaukee M18 to compliment them. Looking forward to giving it a try.

Not having to deal with a cord is amazing; however, having a nice stack of batteries can be pricey.

This is the perfect time of year to buy your batteries. During the Holidays when the sales are on, that's when I buy mine (up to 50% off). Sometimes it costs less to buy a tool set just to get the extra batteries than just buying the batteries by themselves. I found this out with DeWalt.

U weighed it with different batteries

Paid $83 dollars today at direct tools

Seems more powerful with 6ah and 9ah batteries.

It need a bigger battery to pull the amps maybe that is why it gets hot Many other cordless needs bigger battery to get full potential! Like a torque gun

Great vid but wrong comparison.

The shop manager did not have to dodge the power cord once. That is a big plus.

I think all the Ryobi tools in this range are just handyman tools. No serious tradesman would use them.

Avoid this tool. They break the internal battery contacts due to vibration. The Vibration pad compresses leaving it susceptible to vibration. All 3 I bought failed the same and Ryobi refused to warrant them.

Seems like you liked it while it worked since you bought 3. If I don't use it often and it will last me years is it worth it to get for about $100?

If a DA can’t do heavy polishing then it’s just not worth my monies.

I have several "6 pads that I have never used. Would you still recommend a 5" D/A vs. a 6" D/A because of the throw? I was told that the 5" is better. Thnx.
