Ryobi Expand-It 17-1/2 in. Universal Hedge Trimmer Attachment part no. RY15704

Ryobi Universal Expand-it Hedge Trimmer Attachment review. I use it with both the battery power head and the gas units. I find this unit works exactly as you would expect it to.

I've had the 2-cycle Ryobi weed trimmer for couple months now. It is worked flawlessly and always starts very easy. Just yesterday I bought the trimmer attachment. I have a huge prune job to do today and really excited to test it out 👍👍👍👍👍💪💪 Edit: replacing an electric corded bush pruner. (Which worked fine but having 200 yards of cord is a hassle. So happy to replace that) !!

I purchased the current articulated version today for Ryobi's 2-stroke 25.4cc power head from Bunnings Warehouse NZ and it fits right on the end of my Stihl FS 120 R brush cutter after removing the pole from the attachment. Yay for universal square driveshaft heads.

@Warren Chase I would probably get the units separate if I were to do it over. The hedge trimmer is really heavy if you are holding it above your head for any length of time. Also, I prefer the 40v trimmer/edger to the expand-it trimmer.

This is a really old video. The new units have so much more power. Before long, no one will be using gas trimmers or power heads.

The hedge clipper attachment works good, I just bought one to use it with my Ryobi 2-Cycle Expand-It gas trimmer unit. I'm thinking of getting the brush blade attachment. My Ryobi gas unit I have to squeeze the the safety lever (opposite the throttle) to make the attachments run.

I just purchased and used the Ryobi 40V Expand-it 15" line trimmer today. As they say 90 minutes to fully charge. I am on a corner lot with about 200 linear feet of sidewalk so we are talking 400' + of edging including the drive. It's likely going to take 3 to 4 charges of the battery to do all the trimming my yard needs today. Once the trimming is under control (I had some overgrowth) on a regular weekly bases it may only take one or two charges to do the yard. I can use the rest between charges anyway. They say gas-like power but not really in my opinion...much better than an old technology corded, ni-cad or lead/acid battery trimmer and I'd say about 80% as powerful as a gas trimmer. Totally adequate if you keep up with your trimming. This is NOT good for commercial work or acreage trimming except for touch up work perhaps or as a backup. A blessing on the ears, no question about that. I may purchase the sidewalk edger attachment next month not sure yet.

andrew stoy ~ I'm thinking gas is still king in the commercial sector. But if I were doing yards all day in a commercial business and wanted to try electric...I'd have at least 4 fully charged batteries and a good quality gas trimmer for backup.like a Stihl.

My ryobi 40v brushless trimmer is noticably more powerful than my echo gasser. I'm also using a 6ah battery and can trim & edge an acre corner lot on a single charge. That extra capacity makes the difference in run time. I use a 2ah pack for the ryobi blower. Power left over, but blowing the street and drive are short jobs. I have a sunjoe 40v mower with 4ah pack. I get about 3/4 through it on a charge and the yard is maybe 1/3 acres worth of grass. A 6ah pack for that would be the ticket probably, but I'd likely get a Ryobi mower before I upgraded the sunjoe battery.

I want to re buy the Ryobi kombi unit again after buying a Stihl Kombi. It's KILLING my back with the massive weight and almost stupid oversize of the whole unit. Only thing stopping me is the hastles I had with not starting the petrol model I had vs really good reliability from the Stihl. I had about 7 or so of the motors over the years and they'd only last a few months commercially before they just sometimes wouldn't start on a job. I really am sick if this back pain though. I bought an expensive harness today in hope that would work but it's junk.

Another great review/comparison! I'm in the market for a cordless string trimmer, edger, and hedge trimmer. Can't decide between the Expand-it line and get the attachments or buy them separately (knowing the trimmer has option to edge). Thoughts? Have you used the stand alone hedge trimmer? How does it compare?

If you are in the mowing & yard cleanup service, yes buy separate tools, but if you are a homeowner with only occasional need for some of these tools, then this is the way to go, you can hang them on a wall out of the way when you don't need them. I have the trimmer, cultivator, and blower attachments. They work great, and don't take up very much room when stored. I have made somewhat of a rack on the back wall in my shed to store the trimmer as I use it most often, the other attachments sit on the floor right below the trimmer.

I'm in the market for a string trimmer and possibly a tiller,, after seeing yours and some other videos of the 40 volt Ryobi Expand-it products. Seems like you really like them, would you still buy the Ryobi Expand-it products, if you had to do it all over again? By the way, those were some nice bushes, do you know what type they are? Also what state are you in, I'm just curious if that species would survive in Connecticut. #hedges #lawncare

Having used the trimmer to finally do the whole hedge line, I find it is pretty heavy and awkward. I kinda wish I had gotten the 40v trimmer that is a stand alone unit. So far the only expand-it tool I like is the edger (with the 40v power head) I am not sure what type of hedge this is. I have seen it everywhere though. I live in the northwest, so it doesn't get as cold as where you are at. I almost bought the tiller to try it, but just could not bring myself to drop the 80-90 bucks on it. Thanks for watching the video.
