also can we appreciate (the dad I think) and the education he gave on the fact that type 1 diabetes doesn't mean you have to stop eating sugar!!! like praise him on that and even the way he easily explained it! loved that.

I actually learned a lot from his explanation. I’ve known quite a few diabetics (mostly type 1) and this was the most detailed explanation I’ve heard. I understood the basics of what happened and I knew about the insulin shots and blood sugar readings and all of that but I never really understood exactly what was going on and how the treatment worked. Rylee is so lucky to have him and Brynley who obviously know a fair amount about diabetes to guide her through.

@@jazzyjen5083 Her dad did a good job explaining it. One explanation I've heard is that insulin sort of acts like a key that unlocks all your cells so glucose can get in and be used as energy. At the end of the video Rylee mentions 2 different insulins. A normal person has insulin running through them 24/7 then when they eat the pancreas releases more. One of those insulins she mentioned acts as the 24/7 insulin that a normal person has

Ok diabetic here I was diagnosed type 1 3 months ago I believe and I believe on how it works is that your body damages the pancreas which causes it to not produce insulin cells or not enough you CAN eat sugar like ice creams n stuff just not all the time so on special occasions like birth days yes you could eat some cake or pizza and other junk food (note this may be wrong cus I was half awake when they explained it to us and the doctor who explained it to us sucked)

Its gonna be hard at first but things will get easier. Find yourself a good support group it helps a lot. You not always gonna want to take care of yourself and you'll get burned out. Just know you are strong enough to keep pushing through. It's been 11 years since I was diagnosed it's not easy but its life and you'll get there too.

Hi Rylee. I came across this video by accident but I'm glad that I did. I was diagnosed 3 years in April at the same age as you and I'm here if you ever want to speak about your experience, chat about anything with regard to diabetes and being a teen. I don't have all the answers or maybe any. But I learn each day a different challenge and how strong I am and I'm so sure you will be all good. It's challenging to accept new reality and how your life will never be the same. Also, it's really good to speak about your feelings and experiences especially to another diabetic, who understands what you actually go through. I'm here. Stay strong xxx

I’m so happy you feel better. My older daughter found out that she was a type 1 diabetic during a college internship at Disney world. She was 23. We had no idea that she was that sick when she went to Florida. It’s been about 8 or 9 years since she was diagnosed. I hope things work out well for you. Btw, she is on the pump now and doing great. She said it is soooo much easier and the tools for handling her blood sugar levels is tremendous.

I was diagnosed with T1D in 1967 . . . . yup, I have had it for 56 years! It is not an easy disease but it can be controlled as long as you take care of yourself. Be thankful that there are so many ways of checking your blood sugar because there were not even glucose meters when I was diagnosed. I have been on an insulin pump for 22 years and now use a CGM. My doctors have stated that I am a walking miracle because I have not had any complications as of yet. Hang in there, hon, because a good attitude makes a world of difference in your health!!!

Everything is going to be ok, Rylee! When I was 11, I was in my native country (in Europe), and I started to loose weight, drank TONS of water, and I was always hungry... Then they took my blood and they said my sugar was high, and since I was in a country with different healthcare than in North America, I spent 15 days in the hospital, alone! I feel you, I know how scary these things can be, but I think that everything will be ok! There are a ton of advanced technologies that can make your diabetes control easier! From one diabetic to another: YOU ARE DOING AWESOME!!

Now called Type I the outlook for diabetics is so much better than back in the 1970s. I'm now 62 years old and have been through so much. I've had 4 children and have had a great life. Eat right, exercise, and take care of yourself. Appreciate life and never take it for granted.
