So it’s probably bit of a hard limit for him, and one of those things Ryan was instructed to avoid. Ryan’s joke about Josh being a drinking game in Goonies was most likely intended to be a joke about something he kept doing in the film, but since the natural punchline of that joke would be everyone being drunk and making a fool of themselves because of it, he was drifting dangerously close to Josh’s boundaries, and Josh (not maliciously or aggressively, but still quite firmly) reminded him of it. That’s why Ryan did such a good job of changing tack and making the joke about punching oneself in the dick, rather than drinking.

@@brandonedwards7114 Which I think reflects the honest respect and admiration they have for each other. Ryan looks genuinely regretful he slipped and mentioned it while Josh was willing to let it slide after it got turned around into an "anti-drinking game" joke. Pretty sure he's the only person who could get away with that with Josh and for all his acidic wit Ryan does indeed recognize when he's crossed a line.

Much respect for Ryan realizing what he did and defusing the situation.... Nothing personal, but when you are a heavy alcoholic that's still recently sober, its hard to be around alcohol, talk about it, or even hear the word without wanting a drink. Ryan didn't know that and I'm glad he did damage control the way he did.
