This may actually be my favorite ENA episode so far. Although it's probably the least memeable one, i really feel like Joel G was trying to send a message here. About depression and burnout, searching for happiness in things that used to bring you joy but no longer quite do I love the way the floating mask keeps trying to assure ENA that she's having fun, but she's never convinced, and how the moment ENA acknowledges the mask, it finally goes away. Plus the visuals of course, are as beautiful and disturbing as always (you already did a great job breaking down the water lady's design)

While Mooney pronounces ENA’s name differently all the time, both Merci from Extinction Party and the Shepard from Temptation Staircase pronounces it her name as “En-uh”. So I figure it’s said that way actually.

I honestly feel stupid, I literally can't comprehend what is going on and what exactly this is trying to say.. what kind of critic am I?...

Funny you mention this is a prequel. I actually have a theory that this is a prequel to Temptation stairway seeing as she still has the blue side. I know SOME people think the yellow just "turned back" but I personally find that hard to believe. This was definitely a very emotional episode regardless, seeing ENA admit that she's been trying so hard to find something *fun* to do. That she's been trying so hard to discover something fun and to make her happy in a place that simply was not built to accommodate her. So much so a literal therapist manifested from the void to help her process her feelings. But no, despite the attempt to look like it that "floating sad face" despite being attached to her sad side is a mask as ENA herself states that she got from the place. Which we can infer she's been using to...well...MASK her sadness. And the way ENA goes from calmly explaining her problem to becoming blatantly miserable as she admits that she doesn't understand the emotions she's feeling. I find what's even more tragic is her being briefly uplifted before immediately becoming miserable again when she has doubts about what she's told. "Often the greatest of fun, is found in the little moments" meaning that often the experienced you enjoy the most are the simple and irreplaceable joys of life that have special meaning. ENA potentially misses the point though asking "...like how little they are?!" Seeming to imply part of the joy is in how meaningless and ordinary they are. Though I don't understand why that would be an upsetting conclusion. Then she is thrust back to where she started with Moony screaming "RUN" at her. And a new character we've never seen before has tagged along potentially being a local punk or Moony's friend(?). It should be noted with each video ENA appears to be "waking up", and taking more and more notice of how bizarre everything is. Actually being so stunned she has to mess with her eyes to make sure she's seeing the newcomer correctly. Utterly baffled by its appearance. This is important cause I guarantee she would've acted like it was normal in episode 1. Hence me saying she's "waking up" to how weird everything is. Potentially becoming self aware.

Okay my other comment has seemed ro dissapear/KZread is screwinf up for me so ill just make it again: PLEASE look into the lore and theory videos for ENA they give you a newfound appreciation for them and actually make things gel pretty well together! I would reccomend the two videos nade by Wildcard as they actually address all of the ENA videos. Statting with "The Entire Lore of ENA"
