If a new Mudvayne album is ever destined to see the light of day, I hope Ryan's imaginative playing and one of a kind approach to the instrument is what defines it. Matt McDonough's manipulation of time signatures through polyrythms married with Ryan Martinie's style of playing is largely in part of what makes LD 50 such an enduring classic. The entire band is unbelievably talented, but it's a shame that Ryan and Matt's more eccentric attributes as musicians weren't as apparent on subsequent releases. LD 50 is a masterpiece, and the whole band is so fucking talented; they could deliver another masterpiece with ease.

Self titled is so underrated, it's a masterpiece
Martinie said everything that needed to be said. "At the bass camp there are lots of good bass players. But only a few of them can be recognized by a couple of notes, or a certain lick, or original technique. And i want to be that guy." Martini is that guy...

Nah he’s not so underrated, in some aspects I can see that but most metal players would consider him to be one of their biggest influences, he’s been responsible for more Warwick thumbs sold than anybody and if he is somehow underrated, then it makes him that more special for us Ryan Fans 🤘
I want to be sure this is construed as a huge compliment: Ryan plays like he's never seen or heard anyone else play a bass before.

"I felt you coming through this instrument." Yes, that sentence was spoken aloud without missing a beat.
Proof that being a great musician means appreciating art as a whole. Really fascinating to hear his thoughts and the mind behind that amazing playing. The bass is nice too :p
I was shocked when I saw him onstage without that Warwick. Seems like this is a good change for him. What a monster bassist and incredible lad
Ryan Martinie was my inspiration to pick up the bass instead of electric guitar. I loved how in Mudvayne the bass was basically the lead instrument and I hadn't really heard that in other metal music at the time.
@blakfloyd
9 ай бұрын
While I can't specifically say that in the band Spiral Architect that the bass is the sole lead instrument (both guitarists play leads like crazy), it definitely has that lead bass style throughout the entire album because Lars K. Norberg's bass is extremely easy to hear in the mix and he's all over the neck on his fretless. They only made one album, A Sceptic's Universe, and it's very much worth checking out. Insect would probably be my favorite track from it.

Ryan Martinie, do I need to say anything else? Of course I'm gonna . By far my favorite bassist of all time . Not saying better or worse than other masters . Man as a drummer, Mudvayne was so fun to play along with back in my high school days. Undeniably what made them so fun to play and in my mind, so original, was the rhythm section combo of Ryan on bass and Matt on drums.
