  • @jetrx8rew

    I would suggest doing at least the peripheral exhaust port rotor housing mod, it makes the engine come alive. The problem with the renesis making more power is the side exhaust ports, once you eliminate them and run the peripheral ports its a huge difference. The renesis 6 port has more than enough intake port area, more than any other mazda rotary engine, its just getting all that air out that is the problem. Regarding bridgeporting, for a daily driver you may not like the cranky idle and just off idle up to 2500 rpm, I love it though, it gives the engine that fun factor.

    Are you saying side intake ports will flow more than a PP intake in the upper RPM range?

  • @maxre9626

    @maxre9626

    I think that what he's saying is that PP intake ports are not worth the trouble and no side ports wont flow more, but they will flow enough for what he's doing here. On the outher hand, it sounds like the PP exhaust housings are worth the trouble.

    If you are going to use both the msp irons and also have exhaust in your housings you will need a custom exhaust manifold, at least to my knowledge there is not a manifold in existence that fits any setup with both exhaust in the irons and the housings. Plus there are many different ways you could go about it without just swapping the engine (blocking the side port, and multiple different housings work i believe)

    No but the renesis apex seals are nearly half the height of the FD ones, the FD ones are stronger, the idea was because it was built for turbo we wanted to remove as many of the problems and compromises Mazda made with the renesis and try and use as many proven parts that Mazda used on the previous more reliable and purpose built OEM turbo engines.

    Messville so your engine is basically a renesis engine with gsl-se rotor housings, did the rx8 rotor have to be modified at all to fit in the rx7 housings? Did you port/ touch up the rx8 side exhaust ports any? I heard that much can be done with those

    Messville gotcha. another question is I know that renesis engine has the inner and outer coolant seals on the rotor housings themselves and rx7's have them on the irons. how did you manage to do this hybrid without running into that issue?

  • @jetrx8rew

    @jetrx8rew

    7 жыл бұрын

    The engine uses 13B GSL SE rotor housings, they have the grooves in the rotor housing, not the irons. They were used in U.S model first gen 84-85 model13B RX7's. Atkins Rotary sells them they are the least expensive 13B rotor housing you can buy too, www.atkinsrotary.com/store/84-85-13B-Rx7-Rotor-Housing-N304-10-100C.html You could also use FC or FD housings but you would need a rotary shop to machine oring grooves in them and they cost more.

  • @jetrx8rew

    The engine had one big exhaust flange, a renesis flange without the renesis exhaust holes cut in it but with only the holes cut in the flange for the two peripheral exhaust ports. The better thing would be to have all 5 ports open as I think there might be a problem with the side exhaust ports building up carbon and possibly dislodging and destroying a rotor etc. I didnt build the engine though.

  • @jetrx8rew

    @jetrx8rew

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@zombietwd2499 Yes but so do semi peripheral port intake engines. One of the problems with the renesis is that carbon builds up in the corner of the exhaust port face and can come loose and destroy that rotor housing, seals, rotor etc. The peripheral exhaust ports would evacuate most of the gases anyway, leaving the side exhaust ports open would reduce the amount of carbon buildup compared to if they were left closed. Unfortunately the renesis was a compromise engine by Mazda to meet emissions and the side exhaust ports are a fundamental flaw of the engine reliabilty wise. This is why I ended up putting a REW in the car. More power and reliability.
