One of my favourites of Redux so far Taking a mostly good already episode and just nicely trimming the fat

Very pleased that Blake arriving at the house was merged into the larger house fight, always found that jarring and weird in the original V5.

9:23 huh, these people sound familiar :P Seriously, this was pretty damn good. The Belladonna fight has way more oomph now with a lot of the awkward pauses in the action trimmed out and the removal of 90% of the conversation RIGHT IN FRONT OF the brothers lmao. Of course, there's systematic stuff that can't be fully fixed (they could've still easily hit Corsac and Fennec but didn't, the need to set fire to the plants still needs more visual reasoning, etc.) but that's not your fault, it's a mistake of the original lol. The removal of the dialogue in the first half of Blake v Ilia is especially a good change as it always bogged down the pacing and it was just a repeat of what they already said in the alleyway. The added crowd voices did a lot to give Blake more auditory reasoning for the speech and it's greatly appreciated. The lack of Kali downing Yuma with a tea tray is missed but I get it was probably to make Yuma seem less like an easy defeat (you can't really fix a character that felt tacked on to begin with so small victories lol) The color grading is mostly good EXCEPT for the last scene. I don't know if the whites were turned up too much or there was too much exposure but it looked way too bright for nighttime and everyone looked way paler and a tad washed-out (it especially did a massive disservice to Ilia's darker skin tone). Most trimmings and cuts worked well except for three areas. Trimming the pause between the crumbling upper walkway and the reveal of Ghira holding it was unneeded. It kills the suspense and rushes through a moment that's meant to be a big gesture of kindness in the heat (heh) of attempted murder. Second area is when Ilia downs Corsac. Cutting the pause before she breaks down sobbing kills the processing time and again rushes through the emotions of a small yet integral moment. Thirdly, Blake's speech was trimmed WAY too much. Hell I personally think none of it should be cut. It's her big moment of finally standing up as a leader and a beacon of hope that gets through the worries and distrust of the citizens, is the moment of the White Fang plot with the most heart and nuance in the show, and is just generally written well as a monologue. Cutting it short rushes through a massive moment and does it a disservice. So if those three moments were touched up more, it'd probably fit in one of my slots for Redux's best chapters. Looking forward to what's coming next with the Battle of Haven ^^

As usual, less is more with RWBY. The fight between Blake and Ilya was improved 100% by literally removing all the dialogue bogging it down. I don't know why but the final speech also had more weight added to it despite nothing actually changing in that scene. I feel like the Belladonna clan / White Fang arc has been so drastically improved this far that the speech FINALLY feels earned. It's also a better scene for Ilya as she has been re-contextualized to actually be less antagonistic and more actively trying to drive Blake away. The addition of the character short and blending it into the middle of the plot rather than the start helped with that as well. Finally, Yuma is less of a joke character now that Kali was shown to be a sharpshooter and his defeat was left ambiguous,, a nice addition to the Redux.

I always find it interesting when people bring up cutting the dialogue between Illia and Blake crossing blades. It’s an anime trope and action one seen a lot so it doesn’t bother me personally and seems like a staple. But others have a different view on it. A shame you can’t do anything about the weird decision to use the dark for Illia’s camouflage. No way to get around that without major questions popping up like how the house caught on fire.

Its such a strange choice for Blake to set the WHOLE GODDAMN HOUE ON FIRE. Ilia turns down the dimmer and Blakes default option to light up the room is to BURN THE PLACE TO THE GROUND. Its not an accident, its not like the white fang took out the power during the attack, Blake just wanted to burn the damn house down adding more of a chance for her family to die. WTH?!?!?! I understand there probably wasnt room to edit around how the fire starts without either a plot hole or creating new animation and rewriting. It will just always baffle me that there was no good reason why the house had to be destroyed.

kinda random but i just noticed blake's mum is voiced by the same person who plays Yuri Watanabe in the spiderman insomniac games.

Interesting

I think Ilia's characters work so much better now. Since Redux edited out Ilia's more aggressive scene. Her turning to Blake's side feels more natural and earned.
