IT SHOULD BE SAID ... that Dave Bellamy was my most excellent Cinematographer, Production Manager & Editor on this -- a compilation of commercials entitled 'MEMORIES' ... 'MEMORIES' is the story of an old man and how some of his most treasured family memories through the years are indeed connected with getting there via the local bus company; The RVTD. (aka, The Rogue Valley Transportation District) here in Medford, Oregon. Shot in the oppressive 90-ish degree F. heat of the still Summer of early September, 1997 but doubling for a cool late-Fall morning ... and starred the esteemed Grant Shepard, and despite the burden of a heavy wool overcoat, a tweed jacket and hat - this then 80-something was the show business meaning of the term, ‘Trooper.’ The Voice Actor was my late friend and mentor, John Mitchell … himself, an upper-end retired broadcast director for NBC News for over 40 years in New York, Chicago & Los Angeles. My client was my friend and frequent ‘partner in crime’ (meaning we have fun working together) Bill Maentz of THE MAENTZ AGENCY. Bill who served as the Executive Producer and the all important ‘Sergeant Major of the Set’ kept me on-schedule as our First Assistant Director. 'MEMORIES' is also, out of the 600 plus commercials I've directed over the past three decades, my favorite. Not only because the entire project, from idea pitched ... to my writing the spots ... to pre-production ... to (eeeee-specially) the shoot ... to a seamless post-production . But because of the story ‘MEMORIES’ tells … … of the emotions it wells to one’s heart of hearts … to the kinds of moments, that we all, in this teaming river of humanity - in these, the membership of our days … in one way or another, we all will ultimately share. That Life can be ... and is a wondrous thing. It is the road we all must travel along and learn from from the map of the human heart. And to my great fortune, Dave Bellamy & I were like twin sons of different mothers on realization of these commercials - of this journey - these ‘moments …’ From FADE IN of the first Set Up til' the FINAL FADE OUT of the Final Edit, we soared. He was simpatico with my vision from the first to last frame. I am eternally indebted to his wry humor, his collaboration and professionalism on these, my favorite commercials thus far of my career … … and would greedily work again with - play again with - and with all those nice production toys we’re afforded again - in short, creating with him in a heartbeat. Yep. Dave Bellamy glows in the dark in my book. I hope you like them too. Thanks a bazillion, Dave-! Dana Augustine Writer-Producer-Director 'MEMORIES' e-mail: directedby@aol.com
