Thanks Valur, Art, and Polly. Another great newscast. If the volcano is over, I'll still be watching your channel, like many others. We've discovered the Reykjavik Grapevine and your videos, all because of the volcano. The "Abandoned Iceland" videos are wonderful, along with all the other on-camera personalities ... and Art's great camera work. And of course, Polly, the wonder dog.

Polly is soooo adorable and these newscasts always cheer me up even when Im feeling down like i am today. ❤️This beautiful volcano has been a friend to me all the way Thru the spring and summer of 2021. I live in Reykjanesbær and could see her beauty From my home on some clear days and nights. She carried me through some of my darkest moments Thru this pandemic and now that i am currently in quarantine Im so very sad to see this lack of visible activity. You are right. It did seem to have a personality. A very loving and caring one. I say this as a person who has sat many times not far From the crater itself seeing her erupt and smelling the very distinctive smell and feeling the heat From the lava around me and what struck me as odd was how calm it felt. Not an angry feeling at all. I have sat on the hill in front of it and have dozed in front of her beauty like a dog lying in front of the fire. So calm and relaxed and safe. I have never felt so connected to the earth as i have these last few months. Im am very grateful to God for having had this experience. The past 5 months of living near the most beautiful and nicest volcano i have ever seen. Thank you for your wonderful news reports :)

Polly deserves a raise ! She is a great morale officer, and always improves my morale, all the way from California, US. Just another day on fire.

I’ve been a subscriber to your site since the very first video of your visit to the area when it was only earthquakes, way back in March. I enjoy every broadcast and Polly reminds me of my Ginger, a yellow Lab, who died 4 years ago in June, at the ripe old age of 13. She and Polly would have had a great time digging holes together. I still have Ginger’s holes in my lawn. And her ashes on my coffee table. Polly gives me my “dog fix” and she’s a sweet girl. Thanks for all your excellent videos, Art.

Looking at the seismic records there are lots of very short sharp shocks going on which looks to me very much like the vent that feeds the crater is collapsing, which would be piling pressure on any remaining magma. So this crater could be dead, so the question is then if there is enough pressure to open a new vent. Just a thought for a future newscast. This volcano is a spatter cone and lava field very much like the beautiful Eldborg on the way into Snæfells. It might be fun to show the audience who aren’t lucky enough to get to Iceland what a similar volcano looks like in a few thousand years. And if you time it properly there are lots of blueberries on the walk to the crater.

Even without lava, Art's drone footage is magnificent. Loved this approach of the crater.

If it is over, I will really miss it. Great show!

Thanks again Valur and Art. We have been enjoying every Volcanocast since day one. Just a little bit sad that we are flying out to Iceland tomorrow, but hey, we’ll see a sleeping volcano - that’s still a win in my book and anyway, it is what it is!

I visited the Lava Centre twice. It is a must visit and the people working there are soooo friendly!

Your volcano and the lava fields are still beautiful even if it’s not bubbling lava ver its edges. If I had the funds I’d still come to Iceland to see the volcano I’ve watched grow up via KZread!

I can definitely see myself returning to Iceland yet again. I hiked Fagradalsfall the night before we met but sadly as you know it was a dud so no lava night shots for me and just darkness, wind and rain. I'll have to try during the day next time.

Anyone’s guess. But Im optimistic about a future eruption. Regardless, I’m just so thankful for the experience we were able to see from everyone that has taken the time to document the last several months. What an extraordinary summer we have been witness too.

How you can concentrate on your script - when Pollý is working so hard right in front of you - is beyond me

Full shout out to the camera operator. How anybody can walk and film without falling in that rubble is unknown to me.

Hello from a geophysicist in California! If this really is the beginning of the end for Fagradalshraun, I'm so glad I made it out there to see it in person three weeks ago! I love that you anthropomorphize the volcano a bit here. In the earthquake science community, many of us tend to talk about how different faults have different personalities, and I know we tend to have particular fondnesses for faults we've studied a lot. I'm sure it's similar with volcanologists! But not a lot of this comes up when the science makes it into the news, since it's, well...definitely less scientific than actual data are! (But I think it can help with science communication.....) Anyway! Do you mind if I use your "considerate eruption" terminology the next time I teach a class that involves volcanoes? Also, I think Pollý has earned herself an honorary geology degree for all that fieldwork she's doing!!

I have my lava nugget by my computer. I treasure it! Haha - Polly does look like she is trying to dig her own volcano. Valur walks the path while Arthur...levitates? LOL! The sulphur glow is quite lovely and...what...formidable? The amazing power of Nature. I smiled at 14:45, showing the volcano, the rugged rocks and hills...and Polly lounging in the background. :D The drone footage - absolutely jawy-dropping!

Thank you Valur and Polly for a great volcanocast. I have enjoyed this volcano and will be sad when it is over.

Nice to see the gang back at the volcano. Great shots of the enormous lava field with tourists for scale. With all the smoke and gas from the cone, any rumbling from seismonitors in the area? Polly of course would bark first.

While serving at NAS Keflavik for 18 months during late 1970s, there was never a shortage of things to see / do in Iceland! The eruption in that time was Hekla. This eruption may be over for but in geologic time this is a blink of an eye. Interesting to see this eruption from the start and so well documented in real-time. PS - now Hollywood CG scenes will have to do better with lava flows and eruption simulations.

Polly doing an excellent job with the morale today

It's is strange when I look at a patch of land and lava and I immediately know where that is, although I never was there, just from videos of other KZreadrs. I know the name of the valley, Natthagi, even the touchscreen keyboard has learned the names in case I misspell it ;-) I see the crater in the background, I know where the first two walls where, they are now buried, I know the walls 3 and 4 (both to the left, not visible), wall 5 behind the starting point, we are flying over the theater hill, Geldingadalur to the left, the big lava flows were going down to the right, to the east, the volcano nicely just filled up most of the area there and saved the road and the farm... But even if it will not continue the next years, it would not be considered extinct, it would just be considered to be a sleeping volcano that might continue anytime, maybe with some tremors in the underground before it erupts, but that would just be some days of warning time, even if it would pause for some hundred years just like before this erupted... And there are some other things happening at the same time like a glacier flood because of some activity beneath a glacier. They needed to close a road temporarily because of the flood water, Iceland never sleeps ;-)

That is super great. You might even learn Icelandic through all your openness. One cool thing you might consider it to teach your phone to put a little accent over the a. They have more than twice as many vowels in Icelandic than English (I know!!! Wow, right?) and that particular one is why it is pronounced like now-tie. That á is always said like ow. So, it’s Náttagi. Then you will really be spelling it correctly.

@@richard--s all our English vowels have a regular and a (‘) version, and two extra vowels, because why not? LOL. And then the two additional “th’ letters eth and thorn (ð & þ). I think if you really love it here, it’s totally worth it to be able to read those letters - it actually will help you pronounce stuff - then you will be one of those people who can *say* Eyjafjallajökull. (That ll is a special sound LOL). I have faith in you, if your phone learned how to spell náttagi, you’re well on your way to reading the sagas! (Then when you come visit, you can also read the road signs on your adventures.) Bless bless! :-)

Get yourself a Purebred GERMAN SHEPHERD !!!! They are pricey, but well WORTH IT !!!! My LIFE has been SAVED on 3 separate occasions over 57 years by my GERMAN SHEPHERDS !!!! My boy SHEPHERD, named TIRC, saved me from a DIAMONDBACK RATTLESNAKE that was laying in my driveway one night and I would have walked right into it if TIRC had not pushed me out of the way and risked HIS OWN LIFE to SAVE ME !!¡¡!! He grabbed the SNAKE, crunched it with his TEETH, threw it high in the air several times to stun it so he could grab it again and again crushing it in his teeth -- I was TERRIFIED that he'd be bitten !!! After the RATTLESNAKE was DEAD, I went over every inch of TIRC's body to make sure he had not been bitten & thankfully he was FINE !!!!! TIRC was always my FAVORITE (he started protecting me at ONLY 4 MONTHS of age, AMAZING !!!!)! The other GERMAN SHEPHERDS saved me from HUMAN attacks !!!! I adored and LOVED them ALL, but TIRC was ALWAYS MY FAVORITE and still is -- even 31 years later !!!! So, get a GERMAN SHEPHERD !!! I advise getting a good one from GERMANY, COLORADO, or N.E. FLORIDA !!!!! Best of Luck …!!!

Hi Valur, from Holland I have been watching your newscasts about this utterly fascinating volcano ever since it started in March. The events, its growth and how it developed have been mindblowing. Raw nature is so beautiful and you Icelanders handle it with such ease. I almost feel sad that it seems to be over. A great compliment to your newscasts, always very informative, your relaxed style and your pal Polly! And a great thumbs up to Art, whose camera shorts truly are art. I am amazed that Art never fell over while filming and walking! Your drone shots at the end of each episode were exquisite, also in this newscast. Really hope the volcano keeps erupting. I love vulcanology, and the lava flows are mesmerizing. The cone really has a DEEP shaft now. Wild. Probably the most considerate volcano ever. It put on a spectacular show for almost 6 months displaying a wide variety of acts. It did no damage to property, if anything it has added to the natural beauty of the area. Best of all it had the good taste to be at it's best during the summer months when spectators could safely roam. Bye bye vent five. Maybe one day a new intrusion of magma will provide you with company.

Wow, amazing drone footage from Art at the end there! Absolutely love your reports, especially in these difficult times. Lovely to get the Icelandic perspective on things (and to see a country that's handling all this so much better than the UK, where I live). Also, Polly is wonderful!

Stunning drone footage as ever, Art 😍 Is the volcano making that noise we hear as the drone is over it, (sounds a bit contradictory to say it but you'll know what I mean!) the sort of quiet roar? Or is that just wind noise from the drone being higher? So incredible to see so many of the paths we took gone now, and Gónhóll just barely a hummock now instead of a steep hill! How fantastic to have the Lava Centre on board as well as Einstök, brilliant place, highly recommended! 😍🇮🇸🌋
