A lot of good work is being undertaken by many breeders and breed clubs which appears to be underplayed here Dan, not just Pugs.

No-one is claiming all pugs suffer...yes many breeds have issues.. but a huge percentage do suffer so should we be creating thousands of dogs that suffer for a few that don't??? No we shouldn't imo.

This is very broad brush and does not mention health testing prior to breeding or that caring breeders do produce pugs that don't have breathing issues.

COULDNT AGREE MORE... no one is saying that more cannot be done, but the media hype created today with this report suggests that all pugs are riddled with disease whereas many pug owners have happy healthy dogs that even compete in sports like Agility.

Less extreme pugs don't win show prizes. Heck, they're often considered mongrels.

@@Obalatan2010 if you think that is the case you really need to go to a dog show and watch the Pug judging. The pugs that win are not the ones who are in any way exaggerated and you would be surprised to find out that you won't see any fat pugs or hear any pugs rasping or having breathing difficulties.

@@Obalatan2010 take up my challenge and come to a dog show. The Championship Show are held in different parts of the country. I will be happy to enlighten you at the side of the Pug ring. Don't be a keyboard warrior, come and find out the truth with your own eyes.

Good. About time . Deliberately selecting dogs to breed together based on massive deformities of the skull and skeleton is totally unethical. People who feed the demand by buying these deformed dogs are culpable in the cruelty.

You are wrong... Good breeders have good healty funtional dogs. We do all the tests to make sure that we use for breeding only the best possible dogs. This is a very wrong propaganda based on few bad dogs. All breeds have problems, a good owner will know where to buy healty tested puppies. Here from a english bulldog's breeder who is very sad about these shows where is only told one side of the reality. It's frustrating.....
