RV Security: Repairing the Airstream Deadbolt
Living in an RV means taking security seriously. For us, we prefer to have a properly working dead bolt. We happened to run into Phil Enoch who runs NoLox Solutions and knows A LOT about Airstream doors. Phil was kind enough to meetup with us and offer his expertise in repairing our deadbolt.

Watched this video and already fixed our door with this info! Amazing! We couldn’t use our deadbolt from inside and had to push in the door while locking when using it from the outside. We had way more play in it than you guys did. Fixed it in 15 minutes. Thanks so very much!!!!!

I don't have an airstream, so I haven't had this issue, but wanted to drop a note and say that I miss seeing your videos!! You need to do an update on your little one and if you're still on the road etc. Would love to see a new video!!
It seems that you could disassemble the entire deadbolt bent "shield assembly" and rotate it 180 degrees so that the "opening" would be on the inside part of the door. Then, if you did try to close the door with the deadbolt out, the "shield assembly" would not get bent.

Great video, we haven't had this issue on ours, but nice to know it's an easy fix if our deadbolt starts acting up. Thanks for sharing!

Phil is awesome. I had him install the NoLox on my FC a couple of weeks ago and bought the step brace. He’s a wealth of information and learned a lot from his seminars at the Rally.

Just had this happen on a recent trip. As a quick fix, you can used a flat screwdriver to bend the plate towards the bolt from the outside without having to take anything apart until you get home. Just look where the deadbolt comes out of the door and look for the plate next to it on the exterior side of the deadbolt, then bend it towards the deadbolt. This will guide it into the jamb so you can lock the trailer. I opted to not install a zip tie. Installing one would reinforce the plate, but that might result in the deadbolt bending instead if it happened again.

Met Phill and ReShelle at the Airstream International Rally in Rock Springs. He’s a wealth of information and is gracious to share his knowledge. Something which is not covered in the video I’d like to know is: What brand and what is the exact size of the rivets (length, diameter and head size) used to replace the factory rivets? Where can we get them?

I had Phil install the NoLox and bought his step brace but am not familiar with the roof vent mod. What is the roof vent mod?
I emailed Phil to check on prices and how to order his products but I didn’t hear back. Looking forward to placing an order!

Ah I bet you’ll hear back soon they personally respond to all of their emails, possible they are a little backed up but are the nicest and have no doubt you’ll hear from them!! Can’t go wrong with the solutions they have either, so cool that they’ve come up with custom fixes for the AS community.

We usually use Google maps but would look into one of the rv specific maps like the one in rv life if we were going more north east with those really low bridges and such!
