RV Living: The Innovative B Box RV from Advanced RV

We recently visited Advanced RV in Willoughby, OH for a walkthrough tour of their brand new B Box, a very expensive Class B RV built as a box to be bolted on the Mercedes Benz Sprinter cutaway chassis. It is all custom, with all high-end components, accessories and extras. You have to see it to believe it. No matter how expensive it is if the manufacturer will not stand by its product then its a bad buy.

Solar isn't very useful when you have this much battery capacity. You'd have to have 1000 watts for it to make a dent charging this battery bank. The main advantage of a huge battery and an under hood generator (alternator) is that you have enough battery power to last a long time, so you don't really need solar and you certainly don't need a outboard generator, since you can simply take a short drive to quick charge the battery bank. Very quick charging is huge benefit of the 48 volt system ARV uses in their vans.

They're long range off road, off grid campers built on 4x4 commercial truck chassis (something we don't really have available in North America). The price is similar and they're customizable but they are, on average, much larger than this B-Box. 10-20 tons is common.

You don't need solar because the alternator charges the battery in like 2 hours or less. It also has an auto start feature kinda like Volta that will detect when the battery is low and idle the engine long enough to top off the battery. You can leave the AC on as long as you like and get 0 down time. The solar when you got an AC is kinda a joke cuz it would take weeks of uninterrupted solar just to charge your battery when your alternator does it in less than 2 hours.

B box very cool, love that recycled shower and the water that goes to the toilet. When you were talking about putting it on a different chassis I was reminded that armored trucks have a big safe in the back but the truck never lasts as long as the safe does so they remove the truck from the safe and they mount the safe on a new truck. Maybe the B box engineers could borrow some information from the Brinks armored car people. I've seen some super seas on a Ford 550 pretty impressive vehicle. That would be interesting to see if that would ever become your next size.

This rv had front dinning option. Tv in front. The kitchen counter top was not as good as the silver counter top on this model. I have seen two previous videos made at Advanced RV during design and first build... the air exchanger seems to be a new addition and is a great idea that should help improve air quality, reduce interior condensation, reduce chance of mold, improve heating/ac efficiency and maybe filter incoming air. The point about adding batteries is cheaper than adding solar panels is extremely interesting... a flat roof reduces exposure and efficiency of solar is usually under 20% ... a three hour drive to recharge from 10% to 100% is great... another improvement for future design could be to utilize Tesla charging sites to add recharge... especially with the introduction of the full electric sprinter platform just announced... although I personally would prefer a plug-in version to full electric to extend range. Overall this is a great design and on par with other custom pricing... a four wheel drive version on a F450 chassis would compete well with other brands such as Earth Roamer at a lower entry price point. The bike storage is still a work in progress... lifting ebikes up that high would require a lift system and accommodation for wash down or recharging the ebikes. The recycling shower is great too... it might actually be safer and healthier than conventional water shower because of filtration an ultraviolet light sanitation... I would like one for my own house... and the excess water used to flush toilet is a good use of grey water. 5he small stove is exactly what we have used on our sailboat for five years. I want one... now to conv8nce my wife... and sell the boat.

Not more than my house 🏡, but, it's a terrible financial investment... RV'S are NOT investments....LOL.... A house is an excellent investment. Impressive technology, but, there's so many really high tech proprietary systems on this vehicle; keep your checkbook handy. .I'm not kidding. For $400,000 do you want to actually "live in this"?? To justify the cost, you almost have to. I'm sorry, I don't see the point.

Do you really think for one minute that they would build a $400,000 rig and not think of that? C'mon.... The dual wheels and chassis of the Mercedes Benz Sprinter 3500 is a completely different situation from a Ram Pro Master.

My LTV has a pass through storage as well as side cabinets--I call one my shoe cabinet, another all-things-biking, another practical things...With a flat roof, I guess it could be used for storage and kayak carry but that would be a pain. There is a ton of innovation, design work, labor and trial and error that goes into developing and building a totally custom rig like this. You simply can't compare this to any mainstream RV available today, certainly not LTV who is known for shoddy build quality. ARV is in a class of its own in the RV industry. Just because you can't afford something doesn't automatically mean it's overpriced. It just means it's out of YOUR price range. Also, NO RV has good resale value. Besides, if you're buying an RV at this level to actually keep and enjoy for the rest of your life, resale value isn't a concern.
