    I saw yellow light all the way! 25 to 30% is a huge deal. We just went on a 2300 mile trip and spent about $1000 on fuel. That's $250 to $300 savings. I did not know hypermiling was a thing. We have been doing some of those things but intend to be more diligent. Thanks for the great tips. Love your adventures!

    Bob is very good at this. We had an RVer criticize us to go faster blah blah blah but we do our own thing and it helps us greatly. Never heard that name before but it does apply. we pull a 44' fifth wheel. love the stained glass on your door. then that night we are also 70° chasers but this year after we left Texas we have pretty much been 30 and 50° chasers. We just now jumped back up to 90° chasers lol. We drive 60-65. Just let the speeding RVs and cars pass. Our rig is 13'4' so RV GPS for us. Great video . Hopefully people will learn from this. IMHO, The point in time that you enter the intersection (by crossing the stop line) puts you in the clear. I am fairly sure that is the rule... So, I say you were in the clear... The rule I go by is if I can stop without braking hard when it turns yellow, then I stop because braking hard will put the car behind you right into the back of your vehicle... I am that guy who putters around so I can save gas, when they burn by me, I laugh because I know they are just wasting their money... I did not know there was a name for what I see as prudent driving... Thanks for the chat...

    Another one for team Lynn. Lol. I totally agree with you on not breaking hard. You'll end up in trouble. We are trying very hard to learn to putter around.. I really like the way you put it. I think that if Lynn tried to stop at that light everything in the rig would have been in the front seat. It did look yellow all the way through. I think you can let off the gas and coast without placing the car in neutral. If something ever happens and you have to press on the gas you would want it in gear, such as a blowout. But I like all these tips. Good job.

  • @RVAmerica

    @RVAmerica

    We had never thought of that. We never put the RV in neutral. It stays in gear all the time. The little car we do shift to neutral, but it is a manual so it's super easy to do.. Track your mileage by brand, octane, and specific station. We’ve seen MPG plunge with ethanol, or non-tier-1 gas. On our rig, Chevron 81 octane gives the best miles per dollar. We find that big high-volume stations give as much as 45% better MPG compared to out-of-the-way rural stations.

    @@RVAmerica I suspect that they buy the cheapest gas they can get. Doubt they’re holding more than a year week or two in their tanks at any time. Of course, the ethanol in gas attracts water, and a partially full tank will have more damp air to provide it.

    We're in no hurry and typically drive 10 miles below the speed limit. Hypermiling is a great idea and can save money, with a 33,500 lb Class A and given the price of diesel everything we can do helps. • @RVAmerica

    I will be honest and say I don't think we even got close to hyperfuel savings. It was a great experiment. A lot of what you can save depends on the type of vehicle you have. We do think that by going a certain speed and slowing down when we came up to stops, it did save us some fuel. We try to save wherever we can. Hopefully, the price will come down soon.

    An orange light is OK (orange is red for less then 2 seconds). Also be judicious in the use of a tow/haul setting on an automatic transmission on my Ram which has an 8 speed it will seldom shift to 8th gear when using tow/haul however it handles the load just fine when on fairly level ground. Save tow/haul for when you need it on a grade.

    Yellow light for sure. and that's why you never take off when the light turns green right away you should pause 3 seconds before starting to pull off this gives Lynn time to clear the intersection lol. Just kidding Lynn but the 3 seconds rule is a good rule to do. but still look both ways. Good tip's you all.

    Never heard it called hypermilling. Great information. I can tell you that Bill doesn't go over the speed limit. He is a 60-65 mph driver. Maybe we will try slowing down even more. Lynn, just made it by the skin of her teeth.

    Switch from carburetor to fuel injection, and that should help quite a bit.

    You should not drive in neutral downhilling in your car. Your engine in gear acts as a centrifuge which allows you to maintain control over traction so if you emergency brake or lane change, you maintain your weight forward and the engine can absorb the forward momentum where you may need it to control the front wheels to turn. In other words, it's much safer.

    Know that shutting off your engine and restarting consumes about the same fuel as a minute of idling, but puts the same wear on the engine as an hour’s running due to lack of oil pressure at startup.

    We use it to record how much we spend on fuel. I have it set to automatically calculate the mileage that we get per tank. Accounting is my background. Lol we only have to add the mileage and the receipt information. I will be glad to send you a copy of it if you would like you would like it. It is an excel spreadsheet. You'll just need to email me so I have your email address. Our email address is on our about us page. Thanks so much for watching. Have a blessed day.

    She did not run the light. As a law enforcement officer in Colorado, I look for the light to change and then I look for someone cross over the line. If the person is into the intersection as the light is changing they did not run the light.

    I will push anyone being slower than speed limit if you are on the fast lane. Which is mostly these stupid hypermilers. People have to Stop hogging the left lane/fast lane.
