RV DOWNTOWN NEW ORLEANS for $20?!? Yup. Camping across Louisiana Full-Time RV Life Mardi Gras Travel
Recently, I made my way in my truck camper across Louisiana. New Orleans can be pricey, crowded and somewhat dangerous if you plan to stay downtown, but we did it for only $20 a night and were perfectly safe using Harvest Hosts. But wait! This one is a little different; THIS Host let guests stay for additional nights for only $20 a night. Move over RV Park!

It really touched my heart when you shared how you felt you were visiting New Orleans for both you and your sister. You don't even realize it but you influenced me in starting uo my You Tube channel. About 5 years ago at an RTR I approached you and shared with you my idea for a You Tube channel. You were really encouraging and said you thought it was a great idea. That really gave me the boost I needed to eventually start my channel. So, thank you. Never know what a few word of encouragement can mean to someone.

She has really inspired me to! So grateful.
Hope you had a beignet at cafe dumond.. yummy
You did it right. Did you know you can get day passes for the bus system ? Go out to the zoo hop off on magazine street for some fun thrift stores along the way. At the zoo you are on the extreme side of the park. You can walk through the park to get to Loyola university on St.Charles. There you can hop the bus back into the city for canal street shopping. Ok I do a lot of shopping but a beer at the stops keeps you hydrated.

Sorry to hear about Carry. ❤ My mom died from the horrible painful disease of pancreatic cancer too - at 54 yrs young. She is buried at St. Louis #3, along with most of my family. I am a FTer from New Orleans. When we visit, we stay on the Northshore at 2 of our favorite state parks, Fontainebleau (in Mandeville) and Fairview - Riverside State Parks (in Madisonville). You can only stay at each for 2 weeks at a time, but you can travel back and forth between the 2, as they're only 10 miles apart, extending your stay as long as you like. We are domiciled in Louisiana so get to use our America the Beautiful pass for 1/2 price stays, which makes it a real bargain. Maryland and Arkansas also offer reciprocal Senior discounts with LA residents. The sites normally range from $20-$28/night, but with the half price discount, you can't beat the value as both parks have electric and water hookups and convenient dump stations. They are right across the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway from New Orleans for quick access, but far enough away to enjoy the country setting with plenty of wildlife, water access, bike trails, etc. We have reservations there for the September - October this year.
I really wish more HH locations offered that "additional night" option. That's my main complaint about HH (and that's a big one), you get to the site late in the afternoon and leave early next morning without being able to explore the location (and still end up spending $20 - $50 at the site). Very good to know that some locations offer this additional night idea. Thanks!

I agree. If HH was able to offer some sort of incentive to HH who're willing to offer an extra night stay, that would encourage more RVers to check out the more out of the way HH locations. As it stands now, there's little reason for RVers to drive a great distance to visit more far flung HH if they're well beyond the RVer's average roadtrip map...

I would think it doesn't hurt to ask when you get there. Depending on the crowd/time of year, why not?
You need to tour Savannah, GA and Charleston, SC. They are both amazing too. If you loved NOLA, you will love both of these wonderful cities❤️
Fantastic! Your sister would be proud, I'm thinking she was probably right with you the whole time. What a great trip!
Another great video. I will be heading back to New Orleans this winter. Two years ago when I stopped the cemeteries were still closed due to Covid. Now I know where to stay and about the buses, so thanks! I have told everyone who has been interested in van life about you. You gave me the know now so thank you. I love this life!
Cafe du Monde, Marie LaVeau’s Tomb, and a good Po Boy! Glad you got there BEFORE Mardi Gras! Thanks for sharing the video!
Glad you enjoyed NOLA and I know you are glad you aren't here NOW. The best deal in the city is to grab a Poboy or Muffelleta and head to Latrobe Park where you can usually hear jazz for free. The streetcar and a roundtrip on the Algiers Ferry are a great experience.
New Orleans is such a cool city. Great music, great food, and quirky people.
I have been to Mass at Saint Lewis Cathedral Church. How beautiful it was.
Nice - that was fun! Way to go finding deals! I know that was special to be able to take your sister along in spirit! Can’t wait til the next one! Take care!
I love New Orleans. It's definitely on my radar to go back there but with our RV. I just try to avoid going to MardiGras, I dont like the crowds, and I try to avoid going no later than the first week in July, because hurricane season is from June 1- Dec 31.
Great video, Robin. Thanks for sharing the family story. That's travel with a purpose.
I watched your TED talk for the first time last week. I can't express how much it spoke to me. Thank you!
You are amazing, thank you for sharing your travels and tips with us. I know your sister was shining down on you 🙏💕🙏💕
This looks like an amazing trip. Glad you had so much fun!!
Thank you for telling us about your sister Terry - beautiful girl - my sister Eileen also past away from pancreatic cancer - always remember the good times - great video - don’t forget to hit LIKE - keep up the good work
Oh thank you for my armchair travels! Glad your caravaning and sharing your travels. Makes it more fun. 🥰 cheers and happy trails!
God Bless You, Robin.. Luv your Realness ! You are an inspiration to all who cherish their freedom + autonomy 💫 God Love You & Carrie Forever 🤜☀🤛
A beautiful tribute to your sister. Thank you for sharing.
We were in Abita Springs La when you were there. Darn would loved have met you.
Hi. I am one of the camp hosts at Bayou Signette. We are just outside of New Orleans. It is a state park that is just across the river from the city. Another great place to stay
LOVE ❤️ YOUR CHANNEL/VIDEOS .. born & raised in NOLA .. live in Virginia now .. miss family and the FOOD !! Glad you had a good time 💜🎉💚🎉💛
Hop on/off bus is a great tip! I spent very little just to ride the trolleys around- met locals, saw cool areas, just to loop back to the French quarter again
Glad you had an amazing time in new Orleans 👍, thank you for the armchair tour of that beautiful city 🤗❤️🙏
That was great! So enjoyed the history of NO!! Colorful people, for sure. ♥️🙏🏼♥️
So glad you are out there having a blast !!!
Love love love New Orleans. It's not far from my home in Houston. Husband and I were both in the Navy and he served at NAS New Orleans in Belle Chasse. Glad you enjoyed your visit.
Hey that’s amazing because the French Quarter RV park is expensive. I wish I would have known you were here I could have said hello! Smart lady thanks for sharing
I'm so glad ur o the road again and taking us with you!
Very cool video! 💔for your sister. (I know that pain). Yes, you DID do it! Good for you, Robin! Glad you were with a friend.
NOLA has been on my bucket list ever since my college days when my roommate went to Mardi Gras with her boyfriend. Thank you so much for the tour & the heads up about this HH location. Looking forward to your next bucket list location.
Oh how lovely! We were there in about 6 years ago. Did all those tours!!! Loved it.
So glad you got to experience NOLA! There is no other city like it!
I remember that video, where you talked about her and how she helped you make the nomad decision. I haven't lost a sister but you made me start to cry.
I love New Orleans. Glad you enjoyed it too.
Great video! Love 💕 HH too! Sorry to hear about your sister. Makes you live everyday as if it’s your last. I lost my brother to pancreatic cancer as well. Safe travels, thanks for sharing 😊🇺🇸
Wow you covered a lot! I love N.O was born & raised there. That’s a great deal with harvest host’s thanks so much for sharing❤ memories to your sister
I don't have a truck camper yet but you inspire me. Planning my journey late 2023:)
Looks like a lot of fun.
Some more great resources to save to my "Nomad Life" playlist.
Just found your videos. Love the way you explain rv living. I’m 65, a teacher, and about to retire. This might be what I’m looking to do.
Lol thanks for visiting the Cresent city robin . Great video ! I’m born and raised in Nola and you captured it well ! ❤️
I was in New Orleans for a church youth gathering. It was before Katrina and it was kind of run down. It looks like it has very much improved since Glad you had a great time and completed a bucket list item. Can't wait to see where you go next..
Awesome video! We got to go to many of these places in the past and it was good to see them again.
I really like this video Robyn, I enjoy when you show us places that you have travel to and your journey along the road. I do enjoy your information videos but I do like this much better. Glad you had such a great time and it’s good to see you back on KZread. Safe travels
Hi Robin. Loved your video! Never will get there so I depend on you! I would love to see Sandra's home! The best part is knowing you can wear yourself out and actually go to your own home and bed at night in relative safety. Keep going!!😎
Your hair looks great!
Thank you for sharing your travels and experiences. You are getting me ready for mine in about 8 months. I'm done with my life here on the Northeast. I'm 55 and 5 yrs after divorce, my daughter is grown and its time for me to feel free. Me ,, my pup and my harley.
Thanks for the tour. That was great. The views!
Glad to see you are having so much more fun these days!
Loved my visits to NOLA. Didn’t stay as inexpensive as you Robin. The city has such a character and atmosphere not experienced any where else. The bayou culture and Cajun food are fantastic. Glad you enjoyed it for yourself and Terri 😌
I love the hop on buses we haven’t taken them all over the world well worth the money
NO has been on my bucket lisrt for years! Thanks for the info!
Awesome congratulations on getting to New Orleans On my travel list also. Gave me some ideas. Thank you!
I have been to NOLA once and would like to go back. Interesting city. Sorry about your sister. We never get over losing a close family member.
Your looking quite happy and content these days. Thanks for the video ☺️.
Thanks Robin!! Enjoyed that…
Where y'at!!!! How's ya Mama an 'nem? 😂 Yes, I'm from here. Yet you didn't get to pet any baby alligators? 😢 I'm glad that you got to come here and see some sights & learn some history. You would probably do well to make friends with a local person, because everything you showed here is where the tourists go. The locals know where the best food is, where the best music is, and they would have taken you all over the city to places that tour guides don't bring you. Did you take the street-car up St.Charles Avenue, through Carrollton to the museum in City Park? See the Mardi Gras fountain at the lakefront? Get a stuffed-snowball? Go down Frenchman Street? See the antique shops on Magazine St.? Find a "bead tree"? Cross the Causeway? Learn to peel crawfish? Ride a paddle-boat in the Lagoon? Cross the Ferry? See Chalmette Battlefield? Enjoy a Party-barge on Lake Pontchartrain? Drink a Sazerac? A hurricane? Eat a Po-boy? Do a ghost tour? Go to Mardi Gras world? Tour the Superdome? Enjoy a good cajun band and learn to dance fais-do-do? Eat ettouffe? Gumbo? There is so much more to see and do, and a local will know which areas to stay away from. Next time you're here....give it a shot. I'm sure you will be amazed at what you missed. Thanks for stopping by! le bon temps roule en Nouveau Orlean! 👋🐊🦐🪳🍓🍤🥡🥃🍹🎺🎷🥁🪗🃏🎭👑

Go there when nothing is happening. The festivals are crowded and there is something going on in the city all the time.
I did not know about your sister, so sorry for your loss.
Excellent info, excellent video. Thank you so much. 🌺
Congratulations for completing a bucket list task for you and your sister! Thanks for sharing and the great advice 🖖🏻😘👍🏻🙏🏻
Robin, what a great homage to your sister. I'm sure she would have loved what you did. God bless you always, Robin. You are such a spiritual lady. I just love your videos. I'm a follower for life. Keep on trucking, young lady!
Omg girl, this is my hometown. Driving down Decatur to Cafe DuMonde. Love it. Oh by the way I changed up my channel name. Hope to have my rv before the end of the year. How do you like my new channel name?
"You done good, Cher!" NOLA! Cajun :-)))
Loved it in New Orleans
I went there for Mardi Gras in 1973. Great food and music. Glad you had a great time.😊
This is great! Thank you for sharing!

Your videos go so fast. I love all your videos
excellent post thank you.
I love those hop on hop off tour buses. Great what to see the highlights of a city. New Orleans is definitely on my bucket list too.
I’m glad you enjoyed your NOLA visit! I’ve been sentenced to NOLA twice while I was active duty. Thank you for showing Louisiana. I’m sorry I didn’t know when you were in Lafayette-Breaux Bridge area. When in NOLA, the French Quarter Walking Ghost Tour in the evenings is worth your time and money.
this is my hometown, I live in Biloxi, MS now. I hope to see you once I get on the road. It has been a dream of mine for quite some time. I am saving up my money to buy a rig and start my adventure. Please let me know when you are heading down this way again I would so love to meet you. Safe travel dear lady.
Very nice tour I've been to a lot of those places what a great trip great video looking forward to your next destination!! Thank you safe travels 😁
What a great video Robin. Love seeing the upfront and personal info. I’ve been there years ago such a fun interesting City/State. Thanks for sharing…DD n Texas 🌸
Wow, great video! This looked like a lot of fun! Thanks for the video.
Thanks for sharing
Wish we were able as a 65yr old couple to go RV'ing and weren't broke like we are! Sucks...Louise Goldfield in Ft Pierce FL
I visited New Orleans once for a convention, and only had a couple of days. I took the ferry across the Mississippi River to say I'd done it (it was fun), and visited the Voodoo Museum. Thanks for so many great ideas for my next visit!
Love those gnarly trees, houses, cemetery and the riverboat ride~
This is a comment about your Graceland video, because I saw no comments. It’s the Jungle Room, not the Safari Room. Lol
That was so much fun, Robin, thank you. x
I was born there......great video...
Your the greatest!
Love your videos.
OMG, Robin!!! Loved this New Orleans video!!! I have to admit that I so envy you and what your doing!!!!!
Doug is missing all of the fun !!! lol
I'll bet your sister was smiling the whole time.
Great video. Before Harvest Host was a thing ( I now have my own membership) I stayed at the campground near the French Quarter with my 3 granddaughters. It was worth every penny then as other options were also expensive and I would have had to rent a car as Ubers were not a thing either - 😂
If you know where to eat in New Orleans the food is never questionable. Just ask the locals. ☆☆☆☆☆
Great to know! I miss NOLA so much 💛
