Rustler 4x4 VXL Big Bore Shocks and 60 WT Oil

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I swap out the stock shocks with some Traxxas Big Bore shocks and 60 wt oil. After I finished the video and started editing it, I really could tell a difference in the test shots. I'm very happy with the results.

I have a rustler 4x4. Not vxl. But I did all of the vxl mods. Velineon motor, 3s, 14 tooth pinion, big bore shocks, heavy duty suspension upgrade, aluminum center driveshaft, upgraded steering servo, aluminum adjustable camber arms and steering arms. Thing is a dream. I got some amazon big bore shocks and they just sucked. Finally ordered the traxxas big bore kit and noticed that the spring rate wasn't quite enough for the truck. Luckily, traxxas sells higher spring rates. I ordered the +20 and +10 springs and ended up using +10 in the rear and +20 in the front. Makes a HUGE difference. It really depends on your driving style. If you like to bash and hit massive jumps, get the higher spring rates. If youre mostly doing small course and street, keep the original spring rates. I love how tuneable the shocks are and the seal in them is absolutely fantastic, you get accurate dampening based on your oil weight. Hopefully this helps anyone trying to choose what they want to do. Enjoy!

I put the big bore shocks on my slash and the performance has been unbelievable, when I took sharp turns with the original shocks the truck would flip over, now it does not I find it hard to even flip the truck when I’m trying to. Great video and great upgrade Thank You.

I can definitely see the difference, probably because I experienced it myself with gen1 ERevo. The stock setup is really plush, it's very funny while learning and you still go kind of slow in 4S, but for the 6S I switched to the stiffer springs and heavier oil. I can see a very similar behavior here. It turns out with time I would not mind going back a bit for a more plush setup, but not as plush as stock. I don't jump too much and I like to see the suspension arms moving. Just the looks of it, not for the performance

Air compresses. Oil(as well as water) don't compress; they 'hydraulic'. I'm running Mobil-1 75/90 synthetic gear oil in my standard 4X4 VXL shocks as well as differentials and it works superbly in both applications. The car handles GREAT and the diffs put the power to the ground. And at less than $10/qt you can change it as much as your OCD needs.

To me... I think the big bore shocks offer great stability because it gives you greater control with the larger shock as a whole. But the 60 wt. Oil, in my opinion, offers greater dampening. So I am observing the machine appearing to bit hard on a landing die to greater dampening , and also observing greater stability due to the same spring load, however greater dampening. Try it with 40 wt. With the larger shock for greater stability and durability, increase the wt. By 10 and it will increase the spring by decreasing the dampening effect slightly. Or keep the 60 wt. And it will increase stability for drifting and racing although maintaining the same spring effect as stock.i think the weight oil drastically changes effects after drops or jumps. And adds stability operating everywhere else.

The only upgrade I have done to one of them that seems to make a big difference is a set of ProLine Thrashers. It depends on what you do with it, the stock tires work well but the ProLine helps get the other over heavy grass, just much better traction.

I tried heavy oil,, but didn't like it much (shock seemed slow). What worked for me was using RPM two stage shock pistons and 45 wt oil. I used the med-heavy kit with the purple pistons (heavy) the way they work is slowing compression without effecting rebound. I did this with every traxxas (Big bore shock) i've ever owned, even the E maxx. the only problem is they don't fit perfect, you may need to sand the pistons diameter to fit. I just rolled a piece of sandpaper into a circle and sanded it till they fit properly. it also worked on my associated T4 shocks

No more rolling over at all!!!! I believe I have 40 weight oil in them but I love em!!!!! And not to rain on your parade lol but the only thing I would "re-buy" that's traxxas are "a arms" the colored ones.....I love traxxas and really don't run anything else but one thing about them is their products are awesome but certain things break even when not bashing....I also hate the new clip on bodies!!!!!🤬.....and the wheelie bar on the rustler!!!!!! What is the point of having a wheelie bar if the thing still 12 o'clocks and flips on the lid😑....but anyway I can say for sure is that if you want durable hop ups you can't go any better than integy....however....for way better prices and very good quality hobbypark makes some awesome stuff too👍 of course rpm and proline do but each company makes certain things better than the other also loved that arrma felony vid👍🤌 that car will make me cheat on traxxas lol✌

The fluid is a dampening medium, to slow the compression and rebound of the shock rate. Thinner fluid allows faster compression and rebound as thicker would slow it down. Over bumpy terrain the thinner oil would make your shocks like a basket ball and thicker would make it pack down to the point you would lose vertical travel in your shock.

I wanna get some 50w for my Hoss but i dont know what to do. I hate how big jumps make the chassis slam the ground. I want the stress to go on the shocks rather than breaking more parts on it. Im trying to turn it into a jump car. What would you recommend?

ik this was 3 years ago, but recently ive had this literally exact same upgrade to my traxxas hoss. The shocks are super durable but the bottom e-ring, holding the piston keeps poping off. and piston slides down the shaft, providing no damping. wast of time and shock oil, so im gonna replace the e-rings with better ones.
