Rust Dying Paper and Fabric with Cyndi

I spent a day with my friend Cyndi Duncan. First, we went to a hardware supply store to get rusty metal then went back to my house to do the dying process.
Be sure to watch Cyndi on her channel Cyndi Duncan Arts. Her first video of us at the hardware store aired last Friday. Sure would love it if you'd Subscribe to her channel, mine too!

I love rust! So cool to see others do too. What are your plans for what you dyed? Will that wash out? 🐢

I like creating journals with it or adding it to a page in a journal. It might fade a bit, but will not completely wash out. Washing also can weaken the fabric and/or cause holes.

My family regards me as the crazy craft lady… I can imagine what they’d say if I tried this 🤣🤣 Tell me, does that rust colouring “burn” (weaken/eat holes) into the fabric????? I’ve had old linen with “rust burns”, and it always has holes there. I love love love the wire!!!

Yes, it can absolutely weaken and cause holes! All the better in my opinion!

Muy interesante. No se grabó el final? Cómo se ven luego del secado?

Ooooh, your pieces came out wonderfully! I love the big circle spots. That was fun, Mary. I might now be obsessed with it, lol.

Fantastic!- I love it!❤🙂 Do the metal need to be rusty before you start? ...or is the water/vinegar/salt make them rusty in the prosess?

Love the way it all came out but I'm confused as to how you did this. You didn't show a process from beginning to end. Would love to know each step and how long you let it boil for and how long it just sat and how much vinegar did you use? Sorry for all the questions but I would like to try this.

Kathy, I'm just seeing this! I'll try to get back to you. I think I did a more independent video a while back. Not sure though!

How long do you cook it on the stove? I can’t wait to see the art you make with these fabrics!
