Siege of Plevna
The Siege of Plevna, or Siege of Pleven, was a major battle of the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878, fought by the joint army of Russia and Romania against the Ottoman Empire. The Ottoman defense held up the main Russian advance southwards into Bulgaria for five months, encouraging other great powers actively to support the Ottoman cause. Eventually, superior Russian and Romanian numbers forced the garrison to capitulate.
In July 1877 the Russian Army, under the command of Grand Duke Nicholas, moved toward the Danube River virtually unopposed, as the Ottomans had no sizable force in the area. The Ottoman high command sent an army under the command of Osman Nuri Pasha to reinforce Nikopol, but the city fell to the Russian vanguard in the Battle of Nikopol (16 July 1877) before Osman reached it. He settled on Plevna, a town among vineyards in a deep rocky valley some twenty miles to the south of Nikopol, as a defensive position. The Ottomans quickly created a strong fortress, raising earthworks with redoubts, digging trenches, and quarrying out gun emplacements. From Plevna Osman's army controlled the main strategic routes to the Balkan Mountains. As the Turks hurried to complete their defenses, Russian forces began to arrive.

Osman Pasha was a strategic mastermind and defended the city of Plevna and the borderline (northern line of today's Bulgaria) for a long time during Russian offensive although Russian forces were too strong. He made a good impact under overwhelming circumstances. We might lost the war but we always commemorate the heroes. Respect in return from Turkey

They got flushed out around WW1 because bright, solid colors were easy to see for both infantry and artillery and they made radios so you can tell who’s friend and who’s foe.

@@delano4526 I don't remember when the Russians changed their uniforms. However, the Turks completely abandoned the setre type (Navy Blue) uniforms between 1908-9. Officers' tunics were used as ceremonial uniforms by officers only until 1912-13. After 1909, the Turks completely switched to khaki modern uniforms.

Romania participated in this war, turning the tide of victory when Tsarist Russia asked for Romania's help (Russia was at a disadvantage and was withdrawing from the Ottoman Empire). After the war, Osman Pasha handed over the sword to the Romanian colonel Mihail Cerchez... not to the Russians, but these things are not often said, the Turks and the Russians have the impression that only they mattered...

and very wrong! those soldiers had Romanian uniforms, but the officer is Russian (according to his uniform!) or the Romanians did not fight under the direct command of a Russian officer; moreover, there were no battles in those flower fields between the Romanians and the Turks, especially in Plevna, all the battles were on the Grivitsa redoubts and the first redoubt was conquered by the Romanians who then repelled the attacks of the Turks. The main casualties caused by the Turks were due to firearms, especially the repeating carbines - which is not presented here at all, and in the one-on-one confrontations in the trenches, the Turks took a beating from the Romanians. So the video is a big nonsense, far from the truth
