Thanks for all your information. However I am not sure if you are right with your doomerism about Russia. Can you do an episode about the Russian stock market, which is extremely strong? Gazprom is doing very badly, but Sberbank, Severstal, Lukoi, they have record earnings and are at all ATH. To me the twitter sphere that only looks at Gazproms seems a bit biased.

Very interesting....All dictatorships or at least almost all......look like they are stable and working until the point they collapse...The cracks are always there for those that know what to look for and you are revealing the trajectory that Russia has been on since early 2022....My friend always believed China would help militarily....I always was almost certain that China was all about economics and the choice they would make was not only obvious , but the only choice that could be made for China's own economic stability !

Here too in the West we see shifts in power within bureaucracies, and anytime someone is moved from a position of real power (over budgets and people) to some job with `advisor’ in the title, you know that person is on the way down, and probably on the way out. In some instances, however, an ‘advisor` actually is something; but that is a function of the advisor’s personal hold over the advised; not out of any power inherent in the station or title. Shoigu had no real personal power, only delegated power: his only power came from his station as defence minister, and he held that station only from Putin’s power. If Putin withdraws the power, Shoigu is instantly powerless: still titled and salaried, but powerless. Petrushev is more complicated. His power was always personal: his influence over Putin. The title of head of Security Council was always just an excuse for paying him a huge salary and perks. His new title as ‘personal advisor’ means . . . what? It could mean his new full-time job is holding Putin’s hand all day long. Which is a kind of real power.

  • @dichebach

Thanks for this Konstantin! 11:25, you say "Putin is today, focusing on cannibalizing Russia's future . .." and go on to explain that, effectively, this is what he MUST DO (or what he perceives as his only option in any event) in order to retain power for just a bit longer, months or perhaps only days longer. I agree with your assessment 100%. The only part you didn't mention is how Putin got himself into this mess, and that is understandable as your focus is economics, not history, sociology, anthropology, or military history and strategy. I do have some proficiency in those areas, and I can supplement your message. There is of course much that we common folk (those of us who do not have security clearances in one of the nations which are more in the know) cannot know for certain. Nonetheless, there are some broad silhouettes which are unmistakable to someone with an understanding of military history and warfare: the way in which Putin and his Orc leaders embarked on their large-scale invasion in Feb 2022 was profoundly misguided and incompetent. The way in which things actually played out in late Feb through April of 2022 could not have been more opposite to what Putin and his generals expected and hoped for. They expected to conquer Ukraine handily in a matter of weeks, to intimidate the West into backing down, and to perhaps even fracture NATO and entrench Western dependency on Russia petro exports even more. The reason for this profound misunderstanding is that Putin--seemingly as with most Russian tyrants down through history--has a profound underestimation of human nature, and the power which is manifest when a people are united in a common goal of freedom and liberty. Very likely this has to do with Putin being a psychopath and finding it literally incomprehensible that the tens of thousands of common Ukrainians who over threw Yanukovych back in 2014 were doing so out of their own free will and through their own courage and commitment. He probably actually believed that the popular uprising which kicked his puppet out in 2014 and continued to resist his hybrid war in the Donbas for 8 years was a charade, nothing more than an Western backed movement without any real basis in common Ukrainian people's hopes and dreams. This is why he was so wrong about how easy it would be for his Orc horde to conquer Ukraine and this is why he is in the mess he is in: He underestimated the strength of the Ukrainian people and their leaders. Had he, back in fall of 2021 been able to actually comprehend the nature of Ukrainian social rejection of Russian meddling, he would not have embarked on the escalation of the war and large-scale invasion, at least not in the way he did it. Because doing it the way it was done in Feb 2022, and failing so massively has now backed him into a corner; he cannot back down for fear of being shown to have been wrong and weak, despite the fact that forging ahead via the same strategy by doubling, tripling, and quadrupling his cannibalization of Russian society shows no clear sign of being able to achieve success in the long run. Putin is, in short, extremely desperate, with very few options and is merely struggling to stay in power for as long as possible by doing anything and everything he can to achieve things which can be presented as "progress" or even "successes." The ticking time bomb are the casualties and the economic harm. These two "harms" against Russian society broadly are what are going to eventually explode and result in some degree of social unrest and disorder which will threaten his regime.

Putin's imperial obsessions have a fatalistic component to it which reminds me of Hitler from the end of 1942 onwards [when most serious observers ruled out a Nazi victory]. But it's not only Putin. Many RU top officials of his generation perceived the collapse of the USSR as a personal amputation, the abrupt funeral of a life long project that had offered them meaning, power and a sense of destination. The experience of loss, an obsessive 'world view' and lack of counter pressure add up to a recipe for irresponsible decisions

It’s become simpler. Putin is fighting for his life as much as any Russian soldier on the front line in Ukraine. He may lose his life in any event but if he loses power he’s dead immediately. This no longer about Russian expansionism it’s about its’ leaders self preservation.

  • @dichebach

    @dichebach

    20 күн бұрын

@@user-nr8zj5nm4d Very well said, especially your points about the commonality of Putin's imperial fantasies with others, especially members of his generation and fellow cohort of former and current power players. I believe that the catastrophe experienced by the Russian military in its large-scale invasion of Ukraine in Feb 2022 will go down in history as one of the worst strategic failures in human history; but even more importantly grand strategic blunder of national foreign policy which is likely to either kill Russia or send it into a permanent downward trajectory. When thinking of some historical example that approaches this level of screw up, one is hard pressed to come up with many. Operation Barbarossa is about the best I can come up with. It is possible that Napoleon's invasion of Russia is on a comparable scale, but in truth I know much less about that period so I cannot say for sure. Putin is effectively already defeated; it is just a matter of how long his zombie regime can persist in prolonging the horror and unnecessary suffering, death and destruction. This is why it is so important for everyone to understand the great imperative of all freedom loving nations to support Ukraine to the maximum extent possible; literally it is in the best interest of the free world and humanity in general to support Ukraine right up to the threshold of causing economic harm and defense vulnerability. The more power Ukraine can concentrate, the faster the Orc horde and the Russian society from which it was drawn can be harmed to such an extent that social and political forces inside Russia bring the Putin regime to an end. While that might not necessarily bring the war to an end, it would seem more likely than not that it would either because a subsequent regime was literally unable to continue with the war or because they wished to try to dig Russia out of the hole it is in by blaming the Putin regime. Here I cannot help but wonder if Konstantin's conjecture about Putin never winding up at the Hague might not be somewhat questionable. Because Putin would represent an enormous asset for a new ruling regime in Moscow to hand over to the West in exchange for some alleviation of sanctions, etc.

Yep. Helianthus tuberosus grows very tall with a mass of small sunflowers that smell of chocolate. Their edible tuberous roots are delicious, but some people have a hard time digesting a sugar in them, inulin, that causes bloating. So, in a way, Russia will still be exporting gas to China. The name comes from a deformation of the Italian word for sunflower, 'girasole'. They are related to artichokes, though, since they are both in the family of Asteraceae.

Norwegian analysts on Russia suggest Putin’s reshuffling may be caused by Putin starting to realize there was something to Prigozhin’s criticism on how Sjojgu and Geradimov led the war in Ukraine. And their guess is that choosing Belousov is about directing Russian economy towards modernizing the Russian military equipment and strengthening defense industry. Increase the volume of material and personnel. And make it efficient. Belousov has played a role in Russia’s drone industry. While Patrusjev has been downgraded, his son has been promoted. It might be a way of sugaring the bitter pill for the Patrusjev family. “The Putin council” is not big. The analysts will not be surprised if Belousov choose to replace Gerasimov after a while in his new position, and that the new appointment will affect the dynamic of the war in Ukraine. Bottom line, from these changes they suspect a long term strategy from Putin to keep the war in Ukraine going for a long time.

Thanks for sharing. It is good to share & see such analysis, so we can hopefully learn together. 🏆❤️ The Norwegian report is flawed analysis. Why? Because this whole analysis rests on assuming everybody involved is working for the good of the state & the war effort, like we assume it works in the West. And often, to a significant extent, it works this way in the West. In Russia, considerably more so than in the West, you appease the Czar & the Siloviki, the men with private armies, money-flows & powerful connections. Accountability to the common folk & therefore, the common expressed interests of the people living in that state, is almost non-existent. Western analysts are often living in their cultural-political bubble - resulting in consistent over-rating of Russian politics-decision wisdom.

Need to plant in container if you just want only what you planted and no more. They are potato white. Texture is like a carrot. Flavor is similar to a water chestnut or potato with slight cashew flavor. Taste great raw, baked or in stir fries. Great nutritional value. They are almost an invasive plant in Southern California. My friends use them to block the sun during summer because they grow so tall. They store better in the ground. Only need to harvest as needed instead of all at once.

You're doing good Constantin, more honest Russian like you should expose the rotten state of affair inside Russia which is not a new fact. I'm a Canadian living in the french province of Québec, Russia could and should be like Canada, big country with plenty of natural resource and extra large territory, temperate in the south and freezing cold in the north. It would take a full generation to educate and instill the basic principle of social democracy, honesty, free will, freedom of speech, entrepreneurship and the respect civilised value. Take the kids from preschool and all along the education process to teach them the value of a free democratic society, to make them understand how it is important to participate in the process of a civilised world by voting and exposing their opinion freely. For those older and out of the education network, make use of the free media to teach them the new values by exposing the real fact about the past, about how they were lied to, about how they were brainwashed with the propaganda by the controlled medias and kept out of the world news. Make use of a government channel and news print to show the constitution and the charter of right for every citizen to have access at any time when necessary. Start anew from a clean sheet with a bill of right for every citizen in the country. Wright a new constitution based from a pool of democratic countries like the USA, Canada, the UK, France and the European Union. From day one, every politician prior to the new Russia is out of office, if he or she want to stay in politics, he or she have to be accepted prior to day one and get elected on day one. The same goes for all directors of government agencies, police, KGB, FSB. One year of statu quo for preparation and the last 3 months for political campagne. Minimum of 4 candidates for every post with a maximum of 10 to avoid confusion and permit civilised political competition. Impossible task to get Russia as a model world citizen, to be accepted as a civilised partner in the world affairs, a 180 degree turn around and a total societal mentality change. Is this possible or an utopia ? First, Russia have to get out of every square millimetre of Ukrainian territory, Crimea included. Second, get out of Georgia and every countries where it is not legitimate to be there. Third, return to a normal bilateral and international relation with China, Iran, North Korea and Syria. Fourth, acknowledge all the damage done to Ukraine, pay for the reconstruction of every civilian infrastructure destroyed by the illegitimated invasion of the country. Fifth, take care of the removing of all the land mine on the Ukrainian territory, prosecute all the war crime done by the Russian military and reclaim all the dead bodies of the soldier on Ukrainian soil. Obviously, Putin and all his criminally corrupted cronies have to be prosecuted and kept out of any government office forever. Every Russian citizen will be given small part of the riches stolen since the fall of the USSR. A kind of share which will give a dividend every quarter (3 month) or a one time lump sum payment. UTOPIA, is the Russian up to the task ? Is the world willing to accept living in peace without an ever bogey man ? Is the military complex willing to stop inventing a foe, making up an enemy to combat, to produce weapon ever more powerful ? The Ukrainian war is very handy for them, we're getting rid of near or near expiring date weapon and justify the replacement of those old inventory with brand new stuff, fresh missile, bullets, tanks, planes and all kind of hardware by killing hundreds of thousand of human beings, military and civilians. Will we, HUMANS, will ever get along ? Will we ever have a day on this planet without a political (war) killing ? If you want to make a good return on investment nowadays, it's time to invest in Tesla, it will be juicy in the next few years, 18 to 24 months ( enviro investment). If you don't have any conscience in your porte folio, go for those companies who produce weapons, good dividend and rapid growth, they will produce the replenishment for the old stuff we're getting rid in Ukraine and they prepare for the new bogey man, China. Taiwan could be the next Ukraine, China wants it, they pretend that it belong to them even that they never had it whatsoever.

I believe that the change of mentality required for the Russian people to implement anything like a true democracy would take multiple generations. Modern inclusive democracy in the United States took 150 years for women to have the right to vote. French democracy produced the periods of the illiterate peasants murdering the nobility and the priests, then a foreign dictator that tried to take all of Europe, a long period of exploitive colonialism, etc. Democracy often begins aspirational by leaders with nationalist goals and limited power sharing. As Churchill supposedly said it is the worst form of government except all the others. There are many current examples of democracies gone off the rails. It's a very difficult thing to get right and takes a long time with many possible diversions. I do believe that Russia can get there, but few, if any, alive now will see it. I hope and pray to be proven wrong. The people of Russia are very capable and resourceful. But, they have been trained to stay disengaged from politics and that is a huge barrier to progress.

@@mikebarushok5361 I agree with you and your view of the Russian. 1991 to 2000 was a failed attempt, the CIA of this world were involved and remember that Bush was involved also. The Russian population got ripped off to the core from their ignorance of freedom, democracy and the financial world. A real shock therapy would be needed and the instilment of the free world principle will be needed from the cradle to the adult stage. Like we say in french ''chassé le naturel et il reviendra au gallop'' the equivalent in English will be old habit die hard. It will be worthless to try to change those who are older than 35ish, the only way with those is to keep them working and in the fringe. You're right, at least two generation, it's a 40 years project. Now with Putin there, he have already destroyed the future of Russia, about 3 million well educated and middle class and up are gone forever and when this madness invasion of Ukraine is over half a million young Russian will be dead plus a few hundred thousand will be crippled for life. Russia already had a serious demographic decline and beside the natural resource, Russia produce nothing on their own, most everything is imported. So Russia motherland face a very bleak and poor future. Most likely the federation will implode and become 4 or 5 independent states. We, the western world have tolerated Putin, we should have got rid of him right after his first presidency.

China loves a weak Russia. At the end of World War 2, Japanese forces in Manchuria surrendered when Japan surrendered. But Russian forces continued to fight for 2 more weeks to gain more ground. Also in the past there have been several border skirmishes between the two. China although unhappy about Taiwan and NATO vessels steaming between China and Taiwan are not going to risk US trade. Blinken told the Chinese if you help the Russians, we will get India to replace you.

When I was in Moscow in 2004/5 I struck up a conversation, as I usually do, with my cab driver. I asked how things were after the big change. He said, in English, that at the beginning there were eleven friends all of whom wanted to grab something. Only one friend survived and himself. He had bowed-out somewhere along the line. His only remaining friend was now the boss. But what he said then made me think.. He said that he likes to talk with the people who get in his cab and that he is happy to be able to say that he concludes that most people are good. I thanked him.

Titles don't really matter much in the Putin orbit; proximity and backing do. So Patrushev, Dyumin, and Shoigu haven't really been "fired" or demoted so much as brought into closer proximity; which means more power within the sphere, not less; for themselves and their personal coterie of subordinates.

38:25 Hey Konstantin, artichokes are a popular pizza topping! In Austria and some other places anyways. It seems, not in Russia? 😅 I can buy them conserved in a glass or can, either in oil or in water/brine (which is IMO better). They are soft and the taste is very mild and slightly sour, I'd say vaguely resembling cabbage or broccoli, it goes into that direction. What we know as artichoke is the fleshy heart of a plant, the parts that are cut off are too hard to eat I suppose. I sometimes like to add them to various goulash-type stews I cook. Since they are already cooked and soft, only add them in the end, cut or ripped into 4 pieces. 😋

The differences are more interesting - are any of those differences big enough for you to choose 1 over the other? Hopefully, that choice matches your life choice.
