unless you don't care about civilian, city are long to take, it also depend on the defender willingness to use civilian infrastructure and civilian living shield, in that regard i'm pretty sure finland is way less radical than Ukraine, pretty much everything exept the hard terrain would be easier

That is if, Russia even expands into the second most militarized country in Europe after Switzerland and beats Ukraine early.

It can mobilize it’s entire army within 3 days and destroy it’s infrastructure way too quick, making routes to cities literally impossible. It also has many booby traps everywhere, and some houses are secretly just gun routes disguised as barns and houses.

Nice video! I don't expect you to know much, but as a finn i would say that this looks quite accurate. If russians attack, we would try to suppress their attack with the aid of geography. This means that swamps, lakes, isthmuses and such are used to concentrate a lot of russian troops to chokepoints where Finnish counterattacks would take place. Finland has 280000 army with modern equipment and training, and high morale. Any russian advance would come with very heavy casualties. We have practised for 100 years for one purpose: how to repel a russian attack. We have never had any other enemy so we know our enemy very well. I don't think that Russia would ever even try to attack Finland in the future, they know that odds are not good for them and potential gains would be minimal. Peace for the world, stay strong ukraine!!!

It's a mixxed bag, yes they have a smaller pop, but they also have a more modern army... but on the other hand they don't have 8 years veteran of donbass fighting.... but they also have a better navy that could protect the south. Nice vid, but I have something to say about the map. The cities add a nice touch, but I think there's some weird choises on what cities are on the map. For example, Lappeenranta, Hämeenlinna and Vaasa are all really important cities in Finland, but they are nowhere to be seen, but instead there's very many non-important towns.

Things that you may take a note: 1. Finland is not slavic people, so Russian don't have any emotion connected to the Finns, so before first Russian troop step into Finland, expect the Ruskies showered Finland with sooo many missiles and long range artilleries. Their airforce maybe more active and aggressive in this mission compare to their Ukraine's front, so expect hard to breach their air wall to do airlift carrying weapons and supplies for Finland forces 2. My best guess, Russian will move fast at the northern front to quickly shut any land border with other belligerent nations (Sweden and Norway), then they will push hard across the Finnish baltic sealines and connected it with the northern troops. Anything in the middle Russia just kept those in the middle till they surrender 3. Economically speaking, Russia may live like North Korea during and after this war, BUT a North Korea that having good nutrition and enough gas and other basic needs to live normally. You cannot expect a country that destined to be sole producer of raw materials in the northern part of the globe goes bankrupt just because their neighbors don't want buying stuff from them, they have what most people don't have and they have considerable level of technologies to process those resources. And like North Korea, they have nuclear bombs too... 4. I'd like to see the Hungarian response on this invasion, since hungarian always called Finland as their Uralic brothers. 5. Before Russia make this invasion to Finland, I'm not surprise if Russia bring the idea to make a proxy war in Palestine against Israel first, by bringing captured weapons from Ukraine distributed to the Palestinian fighter and possible taliban will be airlifted by Russian to this proxy after make strategic deals with taliban (possibly by Chinese advice too) 6. By doing point 5, Russian popularities among Muslims surely skyrocketing since nobody dare to give middle finger to the Jews this far, expect harder deal to the middle eastern countries for oil supplies to Europe after that.

Israel is also kind of a nation that isn't aggressive towards Russia as they don't do sanctions, many Russian Jews live in Israel. 6. I understand the strategy behind that but it is still very unlikely. What is even less unlikely is that Muslim countries like the UAE, Saudi-Arabia or Qatar would switch sides towards Russia as they are very close to the USA and some are even building relations with Israel right now like the UAE.

Those Arab nations don't need actively sided with Russia, just do things like what they doing now (refusing to increase their oil production to balance the market loss from Russian oil) plus make EU and American pay the oil at a very high price is enough to add some trouble to the NATO countries...

This is not realistic, Finland has more than a million soldiers in reserve, if the country goes to war, Russia can prepare to sign its capitulation, because it would be impossible for them to make any significant progress. This would only be a second part of the winter war, but this time Finland would lose even less.

Honestly with the current capabilities of the Russians, only nukes could defeat Finland. They can fire as many missiles as they want (though they don't really have much left) and that won't do anything. Targets in Finland are extremely spread out and/or well-defended in locations no missiles can damage and shelters exist for civilians everywhere. The entire underground of Helsinki is a shelter that can house 700,000 people and resist nuclear strikes so the civilian population is safe. As for conventional war, Finland's terrain is the worst possible for a mechanized army like the Russians and the defenders have all the advantages. Not to mention even Finnish reserves are significantly better trained than what we've seen from the troops in Ukraine. Neither do the Russians have the numbers unless they go for full mobilization and then the quality of troops will be even lower. They'd need at a minimum 500-750k troops to guarantee some progress. Considering how bad their logistics have been even in the more favorable Ukraine with less than 200k troops mobilized, that might be a disaster too. Nuclear or go home.

@@Kozli1985 Massive? Hardly. We should give much much more. Ukraine has to win. So far it's only about 1 year's Ukrainian military budget worth of materiel and little of it is any heavy weaponry. Not that any of it has any relevance to my post. Finland is much better prepared, much better equipped and trained and has terrain much more favorable for defense compared to Ukraine. Ukraine's greatest weakness is its reliance on old Soviet hardware, practically no NATO nations can supply heavy weaponry aid because the Ukrainians aren't familiar with western systems and would need months of training, not to mention the infrastructure, maintenance, ammunition etc.

I already sent my military gear to Ukraine and indeed I wanted to volunteer for them as well, though I chose not to for the sake of my own family. Sending what I can to Ukraine and if the fight comes here then we'll take it here, don't you worry about that.

Remember guys. Balkan mapping made a Russia vs Ukraine before the war happened!

The map looked accurate but despite the population the finish people would probably fight for most of the country.

I don't know the makeup of the Finnish people whether they are ethnic Russian or not. That could make the difference. Against Ukraine, they went in soft to keep the civilian death count down because a lot of Ukrainian are ethnic Russian. Against Finland, they might just use missiles until the job is done

I think you're missing what made the first Winter War so bad for Russia... er... the Soviets. What happened was, well, Finnish hunters and militia would harass the Russian soldiers when the army couldn't. Not only that but 90% of Finland is still under developed.

I believe that the Finnish army is as cool as in 1939, join NATO, this will give you security guarantees, in Ukraine there used to be fragmentation about joining NATO until 2014, and now hundreds of thousands of people are dying in war, this could have been avoided, if we succeeded in joining NATO, don't repeat our mistakes, join without delay.

@@user-xu9zw7bd7b Obviously there was a lot of naivety surrounding Russia's intentions before the war but Juščenko's government was ready to join NATO in 2008. Had Merkel & Sarkozy not ruled the idea out out of fear of 'provoking' Russia, we may look back at it today as an overly hawkish decision, but it would've saved us from this nightmare.

This is the best case scenario for Russia. Finland has pretty good military and considering even ukraine can stall russia it isnt great for the already weakened russia to invade another country than ukraine, finland. Their power will be divided and russia will lose focus and lose on both sides

I wouldn't so much be worried about Finland's military. Russia could wipe Ukraine off the map if they wanted but they've been avoiding civilian casualties and haven't committed as many troops as they would need for a quick 'victory' in the normal sense. I don't think Russia would take such steps to avoid civilian casualties with Finland, but the real set-back I think would be the terrain which in Finland's case is very good for defence against an invasion. And, I think the rest of Europe would make up for the manpower difference in terms of personnel numbeers.

People forget how small the nation of Finland is in size and pop. They don’t got the same energy and patriotism as 1940 let’s be real. If Russia was able to expand 25% of all of Ukraine by like day 32 prior to the retreat in the north they could shatter the entire Finnish defensive lines in one major offensive excluding encircled major cities that will end up being bombarded into submission. Only support from west would be more military aid to enrich the elite and empty promises during daily PR speeches.

Debre 🇪🇺 hmmmm Ukraine was previous Russian land, mass minority of Russian speaking Ukrainians, was assured no nato expansion yet has grown 5x in size since soviet collapse, Ukraine is a border nation and they wish to defend so how is it different from US involvement in Cuba, Central America and South America, not the same cultures but very similar, etc etc. The war in actuality is more than justified😂

StarKiller but the thing is Russia can invade prior to their acceptance into nato, as what is happening in Ukraine. They keep promising help and that Ukraine will join NATO, but once the conflict already begins they understand you have to throw all the cards in. It’s a game of geopolitical chicken and Russia seems to not gaf at the expense of the west backtracking their promises such as membership

I think Russia might win this. But it will be hard because Finland is a snowy and cold country but Russia can now do something about it because of the modern weapons and tactics. Also Finland has only around 5.5M+ overall population in their country. So it maybe hard for them to push back

Here is a good logic:If Finland joins NATO, Russia would be unable to attack Finland since NATO would protect it and article 5 would go brrrr. Russia’s only hope against NATO is either using their horrible propaganda to get civilians to stop the war, or send their nuclear weapons, which would make their government seen as the new Nazis. Russia could have not invaded Ukraine and build support, now they are screwed. If they beat Ukraine, Finland would have already joined NATO.
