@ocha1 it was written to words of a poem by Nikolai Nekrasov. Apparently the music was written as a Hungarian March or Chardash motive, but i cant verify that.

@ocha1 oh ok, well he was involved with a Gypsys, but i always thought the writer of the melody was unknown, its always been referrerd to as a folk song.
