▶️ Another confusing Russian word: CHANGE • CHANGE: МЕНЯТЬ vs ИЗМЕ...
▶️ One more confusing pair: СТАРЫЙ vs СТАРШИЙ • COMMON MISTAKE: СТАРШИ...
▶️ ALL Russian learners must know this difference! ВСТРЕЧАТЬСЯ vs ЗНАКОМИТЬСЯ • ВСТРЕЧАТЬСЯ или ЗНАКОМ...
👌 How to work with my video lessons? At first watch it and repeat all Russian sentences out loud and record yourself to check your pronunciation. After watching put down all sentences you can remember. Watch the video again in 5-6 hours and correct the mistakes in your sentences if you have any. Do the homework that I usually give at the end of each lesson. Watch the video again in 2 days and make your own examples with the patterns used.
If something is not 100% clear, don't hesitate to ask anything in the comments. Thank you for watching.

    I'm very glad that I am a subscriber to your channel. Your explanations and examples are ALWAYS excellent! Not to mention; the way that you point out the differences in the way a person uses an adjective versus an adverb and their respective endings! Once again; using your excellent examples clearly helps to understand your point!!!!

    I really like your videos, I just wish I understood the whole video. I think I can watch it after I already speak a bit more of russian, right now I know around 150 words, I went to your beginner playlist and it's still frustrating to me

    Thank you so much, I really appreciate your feedback. What I suggest that ALL beginners do, is to go to my playlist for complete beginners (what I think you did) and after that going directly to verbs. I have another playlist called "All about Russian verbs". After drilling the examples from the videos you will feel much progress in understanding how Russian sentences are made up, the word order, the patterns and combinations. Then you go to vocabulary list, not too much, just to grab necessary adjectives and adverbs. And then you can keep on with cases! Step by step, persistence, 10-15 minutes per day is better than one 2 hour session on Sundays. Удачи! Всё получится!

    In the case of a predicative sentence: Сегодня холодно. Is Холодно an adverb or an adjective in the short neuter form (used impersonally)? I thought it was the latter, as the verb быть is implicit in the sentence and calls for an adjective, not an adverb. The adverb and the short form of the adjective just happen to be the same.

  • @Alfia

    @Alfia

    A good point. Let's look at the sentence again: Сегодня - adverb of time - then it's supposed to be a verb "to be" (and in old Russian we used it) - and then comes "холодно" that describes the verb "to be". A word describing a verb is an adverb of manner. It's like as if we said "Today is being coldly" - it's an impersonal sentence with no subject. Hope that makes sense:)

  • @Alfia

    @Alfia

    As for the short adjectives. As full adjectives, they have 4 forms: Снег холоден. Вода холодна. Снежинки холодны. Молоко холодно. You can see the neuter form is the same. The difference is accent. In neuter adjective form it's on the last letter: Молоко холоднó. Keep in mind, these examples serve only for better understanding. They are highly unlikely to be found in real Russian and don't sound natural.

    @@Alfia Ok, now I’m confused! I know the stress in short adjectives can vary a lot, and sometimes more than one stress position is considered correct. But are you saying that - Аs an adjective, the short neuter form of холодный is холоднó - As an adverb, it is хóлодно I always thought that хóлодно was used for both the short adjective in neuter form, and for the adverb.

    @@marcplanet4776 - Аs an adjective, the short neuter form of холодный is холоднó - As an adverb, it is хóлодно 👆Exactly Again, for this adjective, short forms are hardly ever used. My point was, in impersonal sentences like that "хóлодно" is an adverb, not an adjective.

    Привет дорогая Alfia! Espero que tenha tido uma boa virada de ano, logo tua voz retornará ao normal (se é que não já retornou). Eu compreendi o vídeo e os exemplos dados. A minha dúvida está em algo semelhante, porém um pouco diferente. Por que usa-se «Я голоден» ou «Я осторожен» no lugar de «Я голодный» e «Я осторожный»? Posso dizer que algumas construções estão gravadas em minha memória como sendo corretas, mas não consigo dizer o porque delas. Abraços.

    Привет, спасибо большое за вопрос и за добрые пожелания:) Мой голос уже почти в норме)) Осторожен, голоден, согласен, уверен.... - это короткие прилагательные. Они лучше описывают временное состояние. То есть: я уверена - I'm sure (right now in something) vs Я уверенная - I'm confident (and it's my personality). Это правило работает практически всегда. У меня есть видео, в каких предложениях мы обычно используем краткие прилагательные. Я надеюсь, оно будет полезным. kzread.info/dash/bejne/gYahxK6tY6W_ZZM.html

We all were worried when Jen disappeared and started looking for some information and then.... found that horrible news on the local Maine websites. I read the last update, it says Jen was able to move the limbs and speak a little bit, thst gives us hope! Please send Jennifer our best wishes, she is incredibly strong and we are sure in her full recovery. Especially, with all the wonderful family around. We are praying for her. Aliya, my sister, Anthony and me. I saw you in our Telegram Chat. Now we'll be in touch. Again, thank you for posting this.
