@@edwardsmth3it’s a small piece of obsolete crap. It’s not even close to being a “heavy” aircraft carrier. A heavy aircraft carrier weighs around 100,000 tons. This weighs 58,000 tons. The only reason Russia hasn’t scrapped this junk is prestige. Without an aircraft carrier, Russia’s navy wouldn’t be considered world class.

Maybe if you add up the three or four full rebuilds that this hull has undergone, along with the upgrades and revisions. You also need to consider how long it has sat in dry dock. Then you have to add in the towing cost, once from the eastern Mediterranean and once from the English Channel. Then there is the cost of the sunken floating dry dock to take into account and the fines that Russia incurred from the oil spill from this ship off of Great Britain. All in all, they probably could have scrapped this ship and built two new modern ones for what they have spent trying to keep this one operational. It is truly an unlucky ship. I wonder if they have done anything about crew comfort? Serving aboard this ship is considered to be the worst duty in the Russian Navy considering how often basic systems such as heating, air conditioning, and fresh water production break down.

Except they lack the knowhow to build a better one. You have to engineer things like keeping your pipes from freezing into the design before you build it. They can't. Because of corruption, stuff is simply "done," not done right.

Compared the US carriers this is an embarrassment it belongs in the 20th century it is a relic from another time

@@davidmullens6927 It certainly has had major issues in the past. Apparently, they are overhauling the whole ship, including the propulsion system which was the most problematic part as far as I know. It remains to be seen whether or not the issues will be fixed when the ship is recomissioned.

This is result of cooperation between Russia, China and India. All of them have the same class ships, they were all contracted in what now is Ukraine, and had to find out solutions to service and modernizing them without factory support

The only problem is that it rarely moves on its own and when it does, it's by using a tug that's always sailing with it or at least that how it was done. After the refit maybe it'll work but I doubt it, it's a floating rust bucket peace of crap, Russia should have designed and built a new aircraft carrier or a new aircraft carrying missile cruiser instead of slapping money at this rust bucket

Nope, the hypersonics have had a very poor PK and hit rate. Older Pat batteries managed to take several out. Very much doubt hypersonics are going to breakthrough Aegis Defence systems. Might want to read up about actual western Naval ship defence systems. ECCM missiles and SM-6's along with the track radars are far more sophisticated and able to deal with hypersonics.

@@district5198 At the actual rate of progress for taking ALL of Ukraine, the plans for Shtorm should be filed away, then the design for the generation after Shtorm should begin, then when that design is completed, it can also be filed away, and work begun on designing the generation after that. Perhaps when those plans are complete, then Russia can rebuild the shipyard that it will have completely destroyed in the process of capturing it. Maybe Putin should just ask Xi to build one for him. Xi would be willing to do it in exchange for getting Russia Far East in payment.
